Elton John Scores One Bestselling New Album Right After Another

Forbes28-04-2025
Elton John is having quite a year, and his recent activity on the charts underscores that statement. The musical legend, who returned earlier in 2025 with his brand new collaborative album Who Believes in Angels? alongside Brandi Carlile, is enjoying quite the renaissance on the Billboard rankings in America. As fans rush to consume everything he's releasing, John scores yet another bestselling project, doubling up on one important roster with back-to-back hits.
John is back on Billboard's Top Album Sales chart with yet another impressive effort. His latest offering, Live From the Rainbow Theatre, debuts at No. 35, giving the EGOT winner his second collaborative debut in just as many weeks. The set, created alongside legendary musician Ry Cooder, managed to sell 4,600 copies in the U.S. alone (according to Luminate).
Live From the Rainbow Theatre was not a normal release. Instead, it arrived as part of Record Store Day, the annual music industry event that encourages top-tier artists to issue exclusive editions of new, live, or archival sets – typically available only on physical formats – through independent record stores. The goal is to entice music lovers to return to brick-and-mortar locations, giving them a much-needed sales boost.
Only 5,000 vinyl copies of John's live album were produced. The set captures a slice of history, as it was recorded back in 1977 during a six-show residency at London's Rainbow Theatre that John and Cooder shared. Nearly all of the available LPs were snapped up within just a few days.
Thanks to Live From the Rainbow Theatre, John has now collected 30 wins on the Top Album Sales chart throughout his remarkable career. That number also includes his most recent full-length, Who Believes in Angels?, which debuted on the list just last frame. This week, Who Believes in Angels? with Carlile dips from the runner-up spot to No. 10, but even with that fall, it still manages to outpace John's newer live offering by quite a sizable margin.
While Who Believes in Angels? continues to impress on the Top Album Sales chart, its fortunes across other Billboard lists have shifted dramatically — though not necessarily through any fault of its own. On the Top Rock & Alternative Albums tally, the set falls from No. 1 to No. 33, a steep decline that might have been softened if that roster wasn't flooded with special Record Store Day releases.
The project also tumbles down the Billboard 200, plummeting from No. 9 to No. 140. Somewhat surprisingly, it slips behind Diamonds, John's greatest hits collection, which remains inside the top quarter of that all-encompassing consumption ranking.

Royals player with late Cubs fan father reacts to hitting Wrigley Field home run

The post Royals player with late Cubs fan father reacts to hitting Wrigley Field home run appeared first on ClutchPoints. Kansas City Royals rookie outfielder John Rave has three career Major League home runs to his name, but his most recent may mean the most — so far. Rave hit a solo shot in the 7th inning of the Royals' 12-4 win over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Monday, and he had his late father in mind when he did it. 'I thought about him pretty much the whole game,' Rave said on the field after the game. 'He grew up a big Cubs fan. I tried to talk to him a little bit throughout the game. He's got the best seat in the house here. This is a pretty special one.' Rave's father died in 2020 following an accident at home. The rookie has honored him throughout his inaugural MLB season. On Monday, the Bloomington, Illinois native had dozens of friends and family in the stands for the game, and he entertained them with a 3-4 night, including the homer and three runs scored. 'It felt a little bit in slow-mo to be honest,' he added of the home run. 'It was definitely a special one that I'm going to remember for a long time, so, grateful for it.' As he rounded the bases on his home run, he even caught the eye of some friends in the Wrigley Field bleachers. 'Between friends and family, they're kind of all over the park in different spots, but I was able to see a couple of my buddies up in the bleachers having a good time,' Rave said. 'So I tossed a ball up to one of them so that was a cool moment.' His brother was also in attendance, though he's converted from a Cubs fan to a Royals fan, probably at Rave's behest. Rave has played in 39 games for the Royals this year after making his MLB debut in May. He is hitting .205 over 78 career at bats. Ozzy Osbourne Posthumously Scores 10th Top 10 Album With ‘The Essential Ozzy'

Ozzy Osbourne's legacy continues to cement itself on the charts as fans turn to his music while mourning his death. Osbourne died at age 76 on July 22 after a years-long struggle with Parkinson's disease. Between July 18 and 24, 'The Essential Ozzy Osbourne' earned nearly 44,000 equivalent album units, debuting at No. 7 on the albums chart, according to Luminate. Released in 2003, the album reaches the top 10 for the first time in history. It previously peaked at No. 81 in 2003, the year it was released. The collection was streamed over 48 million times this tracking week, debuting at No. 9 on Billboard's Top Streaming Albums. Osbourne formerly claimed a top 10 in the Billboard 200 with 'Patient Number 9' (No. 3 in 2022), 'Ordinary Man' (No. 3, 2020), 'Scream' (No. 4, 2010), 'Black Rain' (No. 3, 2007), 'Down to Earth' (No. 4, 2001), 'Ozzmosis' (No. 4, 1995), 'No More Tears' (No. 7, 1991), 'Tribute' (with Randy Rhoads, No. 6 in 1987) and 'The Ultimate Sin' (No. 6, 1986). As the frontman of Black Sabbath, Osbourne also charted top 10s with '13' (No. 1 in 2013) and 'Master of Reality' (No. 8, 1971). The leading title on the list this week comes from Tyler, The Creator, who scores his fourth and consecutive No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with 'Don't Tap the Glass.' The set achieves 197,000 units and is the top-selling album of the week with 128,000 sold. Those sales are largely from five physical offerings exclusively sold via the artist's official webstore: a vinyl LP, CD and three deluxe boxed sets. The California-bred rapper has recently made a habit of releasing albums off-cycle. As a result, 'Don't Tap the Glass' was released on a Monday (July 21), giving it only four days of activity in its first tracking week. He previously topped the chart with 'Chromakopia' (2024), 'Call Me If You Get Lost' (2021), and 'Igor' (2019). There were more than a few new top releases on the charts this week, including Jessie Murph's 'Sex Hysteria' and BTS' eighth top 10, 'Permission To Dance On Stage (Live).' Murph scores her first top 10 on the Billboard 200 as 'Sex Hysteria' debuts at No. 8 with 44,000 units earned, powered by 48 million streams across its 15 tracks. It marks her third entry on the Billboard 200, following 'That Ain't No Man That's the Devil' (No. 24 in 2024) and 'Drowning' (No. 162 in 2023). The new album arrives on the heels of two Hot 100 hits: 'Blue Strips' — her highest-charting single to date and first top 20, peaking at No. 15 in May — and 'Touch Me Like a Gangster' (No. 56 in June). The momentum continues as the 22-year-old kicks off her 'Worldwide Hysteria Tour' today in Phoenix, Arizona, with major stops planned across North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Alex Warren's 'You'll Be Alright, Kid' also enters the top 10 of the Billboard 200 for the first time as it lifts from No. 19 to No. 5 after it was expanded with 10 added songs. The set includes Warren's Hot 100 hit, 'Ordinary,' which has spent seven weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Closing out the top 10 is BTS with the group's first live album, recorded in 2021 during their tour fo the same name. The set launched with 43,000 equivalent album units earned, with album sales comprising 36,000. The remainder of the top 10 is comprised of previously released sets: Morgan Wallen's 'I'm the Problem' is at No. 2; 'The KPop Demon Hunters' soundtrack is at No. 3; Jackboys and Travis Scott's 'Jackboys 2' is at No. 4; Justin Bieber's 'Swag' is at No. 6; and Clipse's 'Let God Sort Em Out' is at No. 9. Spinal Tap has a lot of famous friends, slightly fewer jokes in sequel trailer

We get a little nervous, honestly, when the trailer for a new sequel/revival/general nostalgia-based film or television project features a lot of material from the old works it's building off of—something in ready abundance in the first trailer, released today, for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues. Yes, trailer, we do in fact remember the bit from 1984's This Is Spinal Tap where the dials go to 11; what have you got for us today? A whole lot of famous friends, is the immediate answer, as Spinal Tap II's trailer rolls out Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Questlove to remind us that musicians like This Is Spinal Tap, too. (McCartney gets to play the 'pretending to think Tap are geniuses' game, talking to Rob Reiner's Marty Di Bergi about the poetry of 'Big Bottom,' while Questlove declines the chance to be the drummer for the band's reunion show because 'I don't want to die.') Beyond these eye-catching elements, though, the trailer does give fans some of what will actually determine how well the movie works: Time spent with David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls (or, as we know them in the real world, Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer), who do, in fact seem to still have a strong grasp on rock's dumbest semi-success story. Some of the more timely gags in the trailer are hit-or-miss—jokes about crypto and Stormy Daniels are going to age like beef on a sunny day—but the affable dopiness that all three comedy legends bring to their characters is still in ready evidence. (They've also brought in a couple of British comedy ringers to help round out the cast/jokes, including Chris Addison and Kerry Godliman.) (Bosh!) We might feel a little skeptical, but moments like Tufnel rocking out, full electric, with his quiet acoustic pub band, or McKean's blithe idiocy as St. Hubbins, gives us a bit of hope that the film can capture some of the old magic. Spinal Tap II is directed by Reiner, and written by him alongside Guest, McKean, and Shearer. The film hits theaters on September 12. More from A.V.
