States advance PM Ekta Mall projects to promote ODOP & GI products; UP, MP, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Bihar among top funded
The Union government cleared projects worth nearly ₹ 4,796 crore in fiscal year 2023-24 under the scheme, official data shows.
The PM Ekta Mall scheme, announced in the Union Budget 2023-24, aims to provide dedicated retail space for each state and Union Territory to promote ODOP items, Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged goods and local handicrafts.
The scheme is being implemented under Part-VI of the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) framework by the ministry of finance.
Union minister of state for commerce and industry Jitin Prasada informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply that, upon the recommendation of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the Department of Expenditure has approved Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) of 27 states for the construction of PM Ekta Malls.
As per the information provided by the minister to Lok Sabha on Tuesday,the highest allocation has gone to Uttar Pradesh, which has been permitted to set up three Ekta Malls—one each in Agra, Lucknow, and Varanasi—receiving ₹ 370.25 crore, given the state's size and diversity of local crafts.
Madhya Pradesh follows with an allocation of ₹ 284 crore for a mall in Ujjain, while Assam has been sanctioned ₹ 226 crore for the project in Guwahati.
Tamil Nadu and Bihar have also received substantial support, with ₹ 223 crore and ₹ 212.69 crore respectively, to build Ekta Malls in Chennai and Patna.
Other prominent states include Gujarat and Telangana, each sanctioned ₹ 202 crore, and Maharashtra, which has received ₹ 195.14 crore for the Navi Mumbai mall.
Under the SASCI guidelines, states had to submit detailed project reports, with allocations made on a first-come, first-served basis. The government had earmarked a total of ₹ 5,000 crore for the scheme. States are required to provide land for the malls free of cost or bear the cost of acquisition.
'The initiative is designed to create retail-level visibility for India's traditional and regional products, offering artisans and producers a permanent marketing platform in prime urban locations,' said Prasada in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
'All states are encouraged to establish PM Ekta Mall (Unity Mall), announced in the Union Budget 2023-24, for the promotion and sale of ODOP, GI products, and other handicrafts from across the country,' the minister said.
The malls are to be preferably located in state capitals, or in financial or tourism hubs in cases where that offers better visibility.
While 27 states have received approvals and funding, states/UTs that are yet to commence work or secure central clearance for their Ekta Mall projects include West Bengal, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Chandigarh, Ladakh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.
The initiative is expected to boost the sale of ODOP and GI products and provide greater market access to artisans, weavers, and small producers, aligning with the broader goal of promoting local entrepreneurship and self-reliance.

New Delhi, Aug 5 (PTI) There is no proposal under consideration to expand the coverage and quantum of financial support under the Pradhan Mantri Kishan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme, Parliament was informed on Tuesday. Launched in February 2019, the PM-KISAN scheme aims to supplement the financial needs of farmers with cultivable land-holding with a financial assistance of ₹ 6,000 per year in three equal instalments. Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh said the central government has disbursed over ₹ 3.9 lakh crore to farmers in 20 installments since inception of the scheme. "Currently, there is no proposal under consideration to expand the coverage and quantum of financial support under the PM-KISAN," Chouhan said in his written reply to the Lok Sabha. Further, ownership of cultivable landholding remains the primary criteria to avail benefits under the scheme, he said, while responding to a query on inclusion of tenant and sharecropping farmers under the scheme. The minister said the benefits of the PM-KISAN scheme are transferred to the beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode, based on the verified data received from states/UTs on the PM-KISAN portal. Asked if the Centre will consider replicating Tamil Nadu's "Uzhavan App" model to provide real-time weather, market and advisory data, the minister said, "Currently, there is no proposal under consideration." However, the government is implementing the Kisan Call Centre scheme to provide comprehensive support to farmers by addressing their enquiries and providing advisory related to various aspects of agriculture via telephonic communication in their preferred languages. These call centres operate from strategic locations throughout the country, ensuring coverage across all states and Union Territories. A dedicated common eleven-digit toll-free number, 1800-180-1551, has been established for the Kisan Call Centre. This number is accessible through both mobile phones and landlines. The agents at the Kisan Call Centre, known as farm tele advisors, are equipped with relevant academic qualifications, thereby enabling them to respond effectively to farmers' queries and advise them in regional languages. Moreover, to disseminate tailored pest management advisories for major crops, the government has launched the National Pest Surveillance System.

New Delhi: LED lighting with sensors, solar power plants, wastewater treatment, rainwater harvesting, solid waste management including composting, and electric vehicle charging points - sustainability is at the heart of Kartavya Bhavan, the first completed Common Central Secretariat building (CCS-3). Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar announced the eco-friendly features of Kartavya Bhavan at a press conference ahead of its inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 6. Aiming for a GRIHA 4-star rating, this six-story building complex covers 1.5 lakh square meters. It will redefine sustainable governance by housing key ministries like Home Affairs and External Affairs in one location. Kartavya Bhavan is a key part of the Central Vista Project, launched in 2019 to modernise Lutyens' Delhi. By consolidating important ministries in one place, it streamlines operations, encourages teamwork, and eliminates the problems associated with scattered, outdated offices. Over-deck insulation and air-insulated stone cladding limit heat gain. A smart air-conditioning system includes variable frequency drives, heat recovery, and carbon dioxide-based fresh air intake to create a healthy and efficient workspace. Powering The Future With Renewable Energy Kartavya Bhavan is a significant solar energy producer. Solar water heaters can provide over 26 per cent of the daily hot water needs, reducing dependence on traditional energy sources. Water Conservation: Zero Discharge, Maximum Reuse Kartavya Bhavan will function as a zero-discharge facility, treating and reusing 1.1 million liters of wastewater per day, which can cover 60 per cent of its total demand. Rainwater harvesting systems capture water for drinking. Dual plumbing, drip irrigation for landscaping, low-flow taps, sensor-based urinals, and efficient drinking water fountains ensure that every drop is used wisely. Waste To Wealth Solid waste management enhances Kartavya Bhavan's environmental profile. An in-house system is capable of collecting, sorting, and transforming 1,000 kg of organic waste into manure daily. This recycling will keep landfills from filling up. Eco-Friendly Mobility Kartavya Bhavan has 324 efficient puzzle parking slots, a parking guidance system, and 120 electric vehicle charging points that can service 650 vehicles a day. As Kartavya Bhavan becomes part of the revamped Kartavya Path, alongside the new Parliament and the Vice President's enclave, it symbolises India's commitment to progress and sustainability. With CCS-1, 2, and 3 now complete and more buildings planned for 2026, the future of governance looks green, efficient, and undeniably promising.
