Iga Swiatek Pummels Belinda Bencic In Straight Sets To Reach 2025 Wimbledon Final
Swiatek wrapped up the semi-final in two straight sets against Bencic, within an hour and 15 minutes, to enter her first-ever Wimbledon final.
It was light work for Poland's World No. 8 Iga Swiatek, who blitzed Swiss star Belinda Bencic in straight sets with ease, to book her place in the 2025 Wimbledon final on Thursday.
The five-time Grand Slam winner dominated Bencic with effortless ease, putting her away in two easy sets of 6-2, 6-0 in the second semifinal of the Women's Singles.
In what was also Swiatek's first Wimbledon semi-final, the Pole looked in total control — compared to her rival Sabalenka in the first semifinal earlier today — dictating the pace of the match to clobber a hapless Bencic, who stood no chance today.
Swiatek blitzed through the first set 6-2 in no time, and made even lighter work of the Switzerland national in the next set, as she bullied Bencic into submission swiftly with a clean sweep to seal the second set as well in no time.
Swiatek will now face off against the USA's Amanda Anisimova — yet another first-time Wimbledon finalist — as both women will battle it out on Saturday in search of their first title here at the All England Club.

Viral Picture Of KL Rahul Consoling Karun Nair After He Was 'Dropped For 4th Test' Is FAKE
Karun Nair played in the first three matches of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, but he could only manage to score a total of 131 runs. Karun Nair only managed to score a total of 131 runs in the first three matches of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, after which he was dropped from the playing XI for the fourth India-England Test, which is taking place at Old Trafford in Manchester. In Nair's place, Indian team management opted to play Sai Sudharsan, and the left-handed batter from Tamil Nadu top-scored in the first innings by making 61 runs from 151 balls. Ahead of the start of the third day's play in Manchester, a picture of Karun Nair breaking down is going viral on the internet. The viral picture shows Nair crying and KL Rahul comforting him. — 🏏 (@Crickaith) July 23, 2025 I feel very bad to see Karun Nair crying like this. I wish the team management would give him another chance to prove himself. 💔🥺 — KLR (@KLRNation1) July 24, 2025 Then Ravi Ashwin, Now Karun Nair 🥹💔 #INDvsEND #ENGvIND #Rishabhpant???? #KarunNair — CineCrick (@Cinecrik) July 25, 2025 Many fans on X claimed that Nair was heartbroken after getting dropped from the team. But the claim is FAKE. The picture that is going viral on the internet is from the third India-England Test, which was played at Lord's from June 10 to 14, and not from Manchester. In the background of the picture, one can clearly see the iconic Lord's balcony. Forgetful series for Nair Nair earned his place in the Indian team after more than eight years due to his super show with the bat in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy season. But the right-handed batter from Karnataka failed to do much in the first three Tests against England. In the first innings of the first Test played in Leeds from June 20 to 24, he got out for a four-ball duck after coming out to bat at No. 6, and in the second innings, he scored 20 runs from 54 balls. In the second and third Tests, Nair got a chance to bat at No. 3, but he could only manage to register scores of 31, 26, 40, and 14 runs. Rahul in red-hot form The ongoing series between India and England is turning out to be a memorable one for KL Rahul. The 33-year-old right-handed batter has played in all four matches and, with the help of two centuries and one fifty, has amassed a total of 421 runs in seven innings. KL Rahul, who became the second Indian opener to score 1000 Test runs in England on Wednesday (July 23), scored 46 runs in the first innings of the ongoing fourth Test in Manchester. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 'Giving Substitute For Incompetence': Sunil Gavaskar Blasts ICC After Rishabh Pant Injury
Last Updated: Sunil Gavaskar has criticised ICC for introducing substitute for concussion and not injury. The debate over introducing injury substitute in cricket continues in wake of Rishabh Pant's nasty foot injury that rendered him unfit to bat on the opening day of the ongoing 4th Test between India and England in Manchester. After inside-edging a low full toss from Chris Woakes onto his right boot while attempting a reverse sweep, Pant retired out and was taken for scans. He did return on the second day but struggled to walk as he limped throughout his stay while scoring a half-century. The scan revealed he has a toe fracture and been reportedly advised rest for six weeks. Former England captain Michael Vaughan has advocated for injury subs while the likes of Alastair Cook and Parthiv Patel have expressed their reservations citing the potential of teams exploiting the rule to gain unfair advantage. Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar is latest to voice his support for injury subs while being highly critical of the ICC for introducing concussion subs. 'I've always felt that you are giving a like-for-like substitute for incompetence," Gavaskar said on Sony Sports. 'If you are not good enough to play short-pitched bowling, don't play Test cricket; go and play tennis or golf. You are giving a like-for-like substitute for somebody who can't play the short ball and gets hit." 'Here, it is a clear injury (Pant); there has to be a substitute. I want some sort of committee appointed to take a call on this. There is a cricket committee, ICC has a cricket committee, but at the moment, that's headed by Sourav Ganguly, the ICC chairman is Jay Shah, and the ICC CEO is Sanjog Gupta," Gavaskar said. Gavaskar then took a shot at English and Australian media while advising that a different committee should be formed to have a relook so as to avoid claims that the decision is being made since an Indian player is involved. 'We don't want a situation for the media here (England) in particular and in Australia to say, 'Oh, because it's an Indian situation, they have started to do that'. So, let it be a totally different committee to look at these injuries, maybe with doctors, etc., and let that committee come to a call," he said. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
