Flight passenger calls out ‘nasty cologne' wearer, igniting airplane etiquette debate
In the forum 'r/delta' on Reddit, the post was titled, 'Dudes and their nasty cologne,' as the user shared that he or she was on a flight from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Atlanta, Georgia.
'GUYS … You do not need to wear buckets of cologne before boarding a plane. The preferred amount would be zero. People are allergic,' wrote the user.
The person continued, 'Honestly, it's wholly inconsiderate to wear anything super strong in cramped spaces.'
Reddit users took to the comments section to share their thoughts about various smells on planes.
'Perfume and cologne are NOT meant to be announced, they are to be discovered,' wrote one user.
Another user commented, 'I have to bring my inhaler with me for every flight because of this.'

Yet another Redditor said, 'It doesn't help that a lot of airports have cologne shops where people go in and spray a ton of samples on themselves before their flight.'
One user wrote, 'In my experience, it's mostly middle-aged women with their sickly sweet perfume that I notice. But I agree with the sentiment.'
Said another person, 'I've given up a FC [first class] seat and moved to coach because a woman's perfume gave me an asthma attack.'

A user advised, 'I always travel with peppermint oil to put in/around my nose to combat the noxious cologne/perfume /body spray /BO.'
Another user joked, 'I think everyone needs to walk through a smell detector before they board a plane. If it's too much, they have to go home and take a shower.'
Gary Leff, a Texas-based travel industry expert and author of the blog 'View From the Wing,' told Fox News Digital that passengers should be mindful of others.
4 The person continued, 'Honestly, it's wholly inconsiderate to wear anything super strong in cramped spaces.'
'Passengers have a zone of personal space on the plane that roughly corresponds to the area of their seat,' said Leff.
'Within that space, there are all [types] of behavior that might come under criticism (usually in the realm of personal hygiene and grooming), but it really comes down to the discretion of the individual,' he added.
Leff said that with airflow and filtration, smells, sprays, or perfumes can be spread throughout the cabin.
4 'I have to bring my inhaler with me for every flight because of this,' one person commented on the post.

'To broaden the lesson a bit, don't bring stinky foods on the plane, either!' Leff said.
'Some airports sell barbecue, but saucy ribs aren't a great idea,' he also said.
'Neither is Chinese food to go.'

AmeriStarRail pitches coast-to-coast high-speed rail project, with High Desert stops
Move over Brightline West, transportation company AmeriStarRail has pitched a Los Angeles to New York high-speed rail project, which would travel through the High Desert. The Delaware-based company proposed its high-speed rail project dubbed the 'Transcontinental Chief' to the longtime passenger rail company Amtrak, according to Newsweek. AmeriStarRail inked its proposal in June to Amtrak President Roger Harris about the possible joint venture connecting both coasts in under 72 hours. The project would include dozens of stops, including Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Victorville, Barstow, the Grand Canyon, Kansas City, Chicago and New York. The AmeriStarRail system would use existing infrastructure from host railroads, including BNSF, Norfolk Southern and New Jersey Transit, Newsweek reported. Many variables Victorville Mayor Elizabeth Becerra told the Daily Press on Wednesday that there are 'a lot of variables' to work through before the proposed project sees approval. 'It sounds like a great idea, but they'll have to deal with things like train schedules, permission to use BNSF tracks, funding, construction of a new station and a mountain of regulations,' Becerra. 'If they plan to bring the project through Victorville, I hope they let us sit down at the discussion table.' The current Amtrak schedule shows a train passing through the High Desert twice a day. Operational by 2026? AmeriStarRail explained that the goal of the project includes having trains operational by May 10, 2026, in time for the FIFA World Cup and the United States' 250th anniversary celebrations, according to Newsweek. The rail system would use existing TTX flatcars and auto carriers, along with Amtrak locomotives and passenger cars. It would also be on a route that is mostly double track, according to Trains Magazine. 'The Transcontinental Chief will be a great opportunity for Amtrak to team up with the private sector to confront the challenges of its money-losing long-distance trains and create opportunities to usher in a profitable Golden Age of rail travel for passengers and truckers, with the ingenuity of free enterprise, as we celebrate our great nation's 250th birthday next year,' the AmeriStarRail letter stated. Amtrak has yet to respond to AmeriStarRail and has not acted on previous pitches made by the company, Newsweek reported. The proposed route would replace Amtrak's Southwest Chief Line, which runs from Los Angeles to Chicago. Additionally, the Pennsylvanian Line on the East Coast. Brightline West One high-speed rail project in California includes Brightline West's 218-mile rail line between Las Vegas and Rancho Cucamonga, with stops in Apple Valley and Hesperia. The Brightline West track will primarily run along the Interstate 15 median. Trains capable of reaching 186 mph or more will cut the trip between Las Vegas to Rancho Cucamonga to two hours – half the time to travel by car, the company said. Brightline West's $12 billion high-speed rail project will be a fully electric, zero-emission system to become one of the greenest forms of transportation in the U.S. Field testing has continued after Brightline West hosted a groundbreaking for its high-speed rail system in Las Vegas in April 2024. In February 2025, Nevada Department of Transportation officials were told by Brightline officials that construction of the rail project would begin within the next two months. California High-Speed Rail Authority Earlier this year, President Donald Trump said the government would not fund the California High-Speed Rail Authority's project that would connect Los Angeles to San Francisco. Nearly17 years after California voters initially approved a bond to help fund its construction, the project's main focus is now a Merced to Bakersfield railway with an expected operational date between 2030 and 2033, the Fresno Bee reported. Railway News reported that while the California High-Speed Rail project has faced delays, cost overruns, and political scrutiny, the San Francisco Bay Area continues to ready itself to become a vital terminus. Despite the controversy surrounding the project, regional leaders are steadily preparing infrastructure for its arrival. During the American Public Transportation Association's High-Speed Rail Seminar, Andrew Fremier, Executive Director of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, asserted that the agency remains fully committed to bringing the California High-Speed Rail project to San Francisco and believes that it can be feasibly brought forward in increments. In response, restaurants are planning to relaunch signature Bangladeshi meals in the holiday season, while keeping fusion on the menu. Jimmy Graham has kicked off his ambitious 10-day Arctic Challenge
Will the New Orleans Saints great set a world record? And they're off -- former New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham is two days into a weekslong expedition to set a new speed record in rowing across the Arctic Ocean, as part of a four-person team in an open-air seafaring kayak. The crew shoved out from Tromsø, Norway at about 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 4, prepared to spend at least 10 days at sea. Depending on weather conditions and their own endurance, the ongoing paddle may take twice as long. Supporters can follow their progress on a live tracking map on the Arctic Challenge's website, which has featured several video updates; one shows Graham standing at the prow of the boat in a bright red jacket, surveying the passing fjords before they made it out to sea. But an early deviation and persistent winds from the east have pushed them outside the plotted course. It's been far from an easy start to their journey. We'll be keeping tabs on Graham and his team in the days ahead. Their efforts aren't just for bragging rights. Through the Million Meters Club, they're working to raise $1 million for the New Orleans-based Covenant House and Laureus Sport for Good charities, as well as the Norwegian Veterans Association. Good luck to them. Graham, the former Miami Hurricanes star, hasn't shied away from adventures outside football. Since earning his piloting license and recovering from a scary cycling accident in 2023, he spent a year and a half preparing for this trip. Now it's time to see it through.
