RSS chief meets Muslim clerics to foster dialogue with Hindus
The conference titled 'Gyan Sabha' will start from Friday with a focus on the theme 'Education for a Developed India' and conclude on Monday. Over 400 educationists will participate in the event, including state education ministers, vice-chancellors, academicians, and officials of central educational bodies like University Grants Commission (UGC), National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Indian Knowledge System (IKS). The main focus of the conference will be on Indianisation in the education system and implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
'From July 25 to 26, around 100 national-level SSUN workers will hold internal brainstorming sessions. On July 27, about 200 educationists from Kerala will discuss ways to improve the state's education system. The same morning, a public function will be held with Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar presiding and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat as chief guest. The afternoon will feature two sessions on education policies. On July 28, discussions will focus on strategies to implement positive changes in the education system across different states and regions,' SSUN general secretary Atul Kothari told HT.
According to the agenda of the event, there will be a session on July 27 titled 'Policy dialogue and leadership conclave' to discuss structural reforms needed in the education sector through a revamped curriculum. The speakers of the session include Pankaj Mittal, general secretary, Association of Indian Universities (AIU); TG Sitharam AICTE chairman and Ganti S. Murthy, IKS national co-ordinator.
Another session on July 27 titled 'Bharatiya and Kerala perspectives in education' will see Bhagwat, Arlekar and Kothari discussing ways to formulate 'transformative strategies for nation-building through education,'
'UGC vice chairman Deepak Kumar Srivastava and NAAC chairman Anil Sahasrabudhe alongwith education ministers and senior officials of several states, will also participate in brainstorming sessions on how to bring positive changes in the education system. We believe that India's education system should include concepts from India's traditions and culture as suggested by IKS along with modern concepts,' Kothari said.
This is the first time such an educational event by SSUN is being held in Kerala. 'We carry out our conferences across the country and this time we are holding the event in Kerala. There is no particular reason behind choosing the state for the event,' Kothari said.
'Recognizing that transforming India's vast education system cannot be achieved by a single institution or organization like ours, we aim to bring together institutions, organizations, and individuals working for educational reform on a common platform. Through collective brainstorming and exchange of ideas, the event seeks to build a shared strategy for coordinated action towards educational transformation,' he added.

EC must stop SIR, says opposition; calls it ‘exercise of exclusion'
NEW DELHI: Ahead of SC hearing on special intensive revision (SIR) of Bihar's electoral rolls, opposition INDIA bloc on Sunday alleged it is an "exercise of exclusion", questioning data released by Election Commission after SIR's first phase that 66 lakh people might be excluded on grounds such as "deceased, permanently shifted or untraceable. "Recent pressers of EC and refusal to accept Aadhaar, EPIC, and ration card as valid documents clearly point towards the fact that the entire SIR process is a citizenship verification process," he alleged. EC responded by asking why opposition parties are trying to create "an impression that the draft list is the final list, which it is not, as per SIR order. " It said it is not able to understand the big fuss now, when a full one month period from Aug 1-Sept 1 is available to point out wrongful inclusion or wrongful exclusion of any name. "Why don't the parties ask their not 1.6 lakh booth level agents to submit claims and objections from Aug 1-Sept 1 ?" it asked. Gearing up to step up the protests both inside and outside Parliament, Congress, RJD, CPM and CPI (ML)-Liberation leaders at a presser expressed fear that many more people will be excluded from rolls during the verification process ahead due to lack of documents like birth, caste and domicile certificates. RJD MP Manoj Jha said the whole SIR process is based on presumptions. "Clearly, opacity has become the hallmark of EC functioning," Jha said. "There is no time or option for the right to appeal for people who will be excluded in the whole process. There are also numerous reports of people found alive who are included in the dead list," he alleged. On the number of deceased, CPI (ML)-Liberation Dipankar Bhattacharya said, "Does this mean that in just six months, around 22 lakh people have passed away? So, does this mean the EC's January 2025 summary revision was a flop?"

Industry welcomes India-UK trade pact
Ludhiana: The recently signed India-UK FTA, officially known as the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), has been welcomed as a transformative development for Punjab's industrial landscape by key industry leaders in the region. Pointing out the implications for Punjab specifically, Sharma said cities like Ludhiana, home to a vast network of textile and hosiery units, and Jalandhar renowned for its sports goods industry, stand to benefit directly. "Zero tariffs on textile exports will allow our manufacturers to compete on equal footing with countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Cambodia," he added. The agreement also grants tariff exemptions on exports of basmati rice, fruits, and cotton, major agricultural commodities from Punjab, thus promising a boost for farmers and agro-industries. Sharma further added that the FTA would open up new horizons for young entrepreneurs, especially those working in emerging sectors and advanced manufacturing technologies. India-UK Trade Deal: Govt to hold 1,000 outreach programmes
The government will organise as many as 1,000 outreach programmes, including stakeholder meetings , workshops, awareness drives and feedback sessions, in the next 20 days across the country to sensitise industry and states on the India-UK comprehensive economic and trade agreement (CETA), which was signed on July 24. The exercise is aimed at ensuring effective implementation and maximising benefits from the pact. "There is a plan to hold sector-wise outreach programmes.
