(PTI) The conference titled 'Gyan Sabha' will start from Friday with a focus on the theme 'Education for a Developed India' and conclude on Monday. Over 400 educationists will participate in the event, including state education ministers, vice-chancellors, academicians, and officials of central educational bodies like University Grants Commission (UGC), National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Indian Knowledge System (IKS). The main focus of the conference will be on Indianisation in the education system and implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. 'From July 25 to 26, around 100 national-level SSUN workers will hold internal brainstorming sessions. On July 27, about 200 educationists from Kerala will discuss ways to improve the state's education system. The same morning, a public function will be held with Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar presiding and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat as chief guest. The afternoon will feature two sessions on education policies. On July 28, discussions will focus on strategies to implement positive changes in the education system across different states and regions,' SSUN general secretary Atul Kothari told HT. According to the agenda of the event, there will be a session on July 27 titled 'Policy dialogue and leadership conclave' to discuss structural reforms needed in the education sector through a revamped curriculum. The speakers of the session include Pankaj Mittal, general secretary, Association of Indian Universities (AIU); TG Sitharam AICTE chairman and Ganti S. Murthy, IKS national co-ordinator. Another session on July 27 titled 'Bharatiya and Kerala perspectives in education' will see Bhagwat, Arlekar and Kothari discussing ways to formulate 'transformative strategies for nation-building through education,' 'UGC vice chairman Deepak Kumar Srivastava and NAAC chairman Anil Sahasrabudhe alongwith education ministers and senior officials of several states, will also participate in brainstorming sessions on how to bring positive changes in the education system. We believe that India's education system should include concepts from India's traditions and culture as suggested by IKS along with modern concepts,' Kothari said. This is the first time such an educational event by SSUN is being held in Kerala. 'We carry out our conferences across the country and this time we are holding the event in Kerala. There is no particular reason behind choosing the state for the event,' Kothari said. 'Recognizing that transforming India's vast education system cannot be achieved by a single institution or organization like ours, we aim to bring together institutions, organizations, and individuals working for educational reform on a common platform. Through collective brainstorming and exchange of ideas, the event seeks to build a shared strategy for coordinated action towards educational transformation,' he added.

Mohan Bhagwat to talk on Indianisation in education at Kerala conference

Over 300 top educationists, including vice-chancellors, academicians, and education ministers from states like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Puducherry, will gather in Kalady, Kerala, later this month for a national education conference organised by the RSS-linked Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas. Representatives from leading spiritual and academic institutions such as the Gayatri Parivar, Art of Living, Ramakrishna Mission, Chinmaya Mission, and the Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhan Kendra will also take part in the four-day event from July 25 to 28. The Nyas was established in 2007 as an outgrowth of the Shiksha Bachao Andolan, and has since emerged as the RSS's principal platform for educational outreach. It has been involved in promoting value-based education, textbook reforms, and the revival of Indian knowledge systems. The conference titled 'Gyan Sabha' will focus on the theme 'Education for a Developed India'. A key highlight will be an address by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on July 27, where he is expected to speak on the theme of Indianisation in education and the broader implementation of the NEP. Some of the dignitaries include AICTE chairman, UGC Vice Chairman, senior office-bearers of institutes like NITs and IIITs. Vice Chancellors of around 70-80 universities across India are expected to participate, Nyas General Secretary Atul Kothari said. 'Our principal job is to bring about a change in the education system, to bring in Indianness in the system. And we believe this cannot be done by one organisation or institution. That's why we are gathering representatives from the government, academia and social organisations. We are trying to connect with whoever is doing good work in the field of education. During the conference we will discuss what kind of changes are required in the education system and how we can achieve the same,' Kothari told The Indian Express. Announcing the event in Delhi Friday, Kothari had said the purpose of the conference is to explore how education in India can become more value-based, India-centric and knowledge-oriented. 'The aim is not to oppose Western knowledge systems but to ensure Indian students remain rooted in their traditions, culture and knowledge,' Kothari had said. The first two days of the conclave (July 25–26) will see a closed-door 'Chintan Baithak', where select participants will discuss issues related to the Indianisation of curriculum, promotion of Indian languages, moral education, and integration of traditional knowledge systems. On July 28, an open session will be held focussing on policy discussions and collaboration. There will also be a special session on Kerala and the education needs of the state. With the CM Pinarayi Vijayan-led government opposed to the NEP, Kothari said, 'the government there has been opposing it for political reasons. They argue that they want their education based on Kerala's traditions. We argue how it is different from India's traditions.' This is the first time such a large educational event by the Nyas is being held in Kerala, the home state of Adi Shankaracharya, whose birthplace Kalady is steeped in spiritual and philosophical legacy. Speaking about the upcoming Gyan Sabha, Sanjay Swami, national co-convenor of the Shiksha Sanskriti Utthan Nyas, said the resolutions passed during the meeting and the conference will be followed by nationwide discussions to gather suggestions, forming part of a national campaign. There will also be an in-depth discussion on the progress, societal impact, and future plans of the 'One Nation, One Name: Bharat' campaign being run by the Nyas. Swami stated, 'This is not just a matter of nomenclature—it is a resolution for cultural self-awareness and liberation from colonial mindset.' A nationwide signature campaign is being conducted in support of this initiative.

The Gyan Sabha is seen as a significant step in the Nyas's long-standing efforts to shape a national academic vision aligned with Indian civilisational values, in line with the policy thrust of the NEP.

Maharashtra CM Fadnavis, CJI BR Gavai attend inauguration of MNLU buildings; highlights 'Indianisation' of new criminal laws

Nagpur (Maharashtra), June 30 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said the three new criminal laws brought in by the Centre are not merely a change in names but a step towards the 'Indianisation' of the criminal justice system. Fadnavis made the remarks while attending the inauguration ceremony of the Administrative Building and Central Library Building of Maharashtra National Law University (MNLU) in Nagpur. The event was also attended by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and other dignitaries. 'We have made three new laws in our criminal justice system. The IPC of 1860 has been renamed as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the CrPC has been renamed as the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and the Indian Evidence Act is now known as the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. This is not just a change in the nomenclature, but we have also done the Indianisation of these laws,' Fadnavis said. He further said, 'On one side, it's our Constitution, which is the greatest in the world, and the Constitution, which has evolved by many decisions of the Courts, is our fundamental value. Along with this, we must adapt ourselves to counter the evolving challenges.' The new criminal laws, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, came into force across India on July 1, 2024, and are aimed at improving transparency, speeding up trials, and addressing modern legal challenges. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government on Sunday withdrew two controversial resolutions related to the implementation of the three-language policy in schools, following criticism from opposition parties. The resolutions, passed on April 16 and June 17, had made Hindi a compulsory third language in Marathi and English-medium schools, triggering backlash over concerns of linguistic imposition. Clarifying the state's stance, CM Fadnavis announced the formation of a committee to examine the implementation of the three-language formula. The committee will be headed by Dr Narendra Jadhav, a former Rajya Sabha MP and economist. 'A committee under Dr Narendra Jadhav will be formed to discuss the implementation of the three-language formula in the state... Until the committee submits its report, both government resolutions (of April 16 and June 17) have been cancelled by the government,' Fadnavis said. The CM's statements sought to allay concerns after the opposition accused the government of pushing Hindi at the expense of regional languages. The inauguration at MNLU comes amid ongoing discussions about education, language policy, and legal reform in Maharashtra and across the country. (ANI)
