Robert McIntyre leads our 2025 Genesis Scottish Open odds, picks and PGA Tour predictions

USA Todaya day ago
The 2025 Genesis Scottish Open features a loaded field this week as the world's top players get in their last-minute prep for the final major of the season next week -- the 153rd Open at Royal Portrush. The Renaissance Club is once again hosting this co-sanctioned event between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. Below, we look at Genesis Scottish Open odds from BetMGM Sportsbook's odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions.
Scottie Scheffler (+400) and Rory McIlroy (+800) are both teeing it up this week in Scotland ahead of next week's Open, as is past champion Xander Schauffele (+2000). Scotland's own Robert McIntyre (+2500) will attempt to defend his title following a monumental win here last year.
The Renaissance Club (par 70, 7,237 yards) will host this event for the seventh time. It's a relatively newer course, opening in 2007, and is a unique links course in that there are still trees throughout the property. Since the club began hosting the Scottish Open in 2019, the winning score has been between 7-under and 22-under par, with McIntyre posting 18-under last year in his victory.

McIntyre is too good in this event to ignore, even at this price. He should be going for a three-peat this year, but McIlroy snatched the win from him in 2023 before McIntyre broke through last season with a 1-shot win. He's in great form with a runner-up at the U.S. Open and in addition to his win and second-place finish here, he also came in 14th in 2020 and 18th in 2021.
Schauffele is still waiting to reach his best form this season, but playing at a course where he's won before and getting back to links golf could help him out. In 4 events at the Scottish Open, Schauffele has a win, a T-10, a T-42 and a T-15, which came last year.
Genesis Scottish Open picks – Contenders
Betting on Kim right now is a risky proposition given his recent form, but he's a sneaky good links player. In addition to tying for second in the 2023 Open Championship, he's also finished third, sixth and 15th in 3 career starts at this event. He's worth betting as a high-upside player this week.
Rai won here in 2020 before it became a co-sanctioned event, and last year he finished T-4 against a stacked field. Being from England, he should be comfortable playing links golf, which is why he's had success in this event previously.
Clark has had a terrible 2025 season, but if there's an event where he has more upside, it's this one. He's finished 10th, 25th and 16th in 3 career starts, taking advantage of the relatively wide-open layout of The Renaissance Club.

Genesis Scottish Open picks – Long shots
Detry always plays this event and tends to have success here, finishing second and 10th in 2021 and 2022 before coming in 42nd and 26th the last 2 years. He has a win and 6 total top-25 finishes this season, as well.
Perez is from France, but he moved to Scotland in 2017, so he should be right at home this week. Since 2020, he's made the cut in 4 of 5 starts at the Scottish Open, with top finishes of 10th in 2024 and 14th in 2020.
Harman is a past Open champion and has come in 21st and 12th in this event the last 2 years, so he's no stranger to having success on links courses. It hasn't been a great year for the former Georgia Bulldog, but playing overseas tends to bring out the best in him.

Joey Chestnut responds to viral Usain Bolt challenge

Joey Chestnut vs. Usain Bolt. At least one of them is ready for a showdown. 'Of course I'd do it,'' Chestnut told USA TODAY Sports. The PGA Tour recently revived the idea when they asked golfers who would win a head-to-head competition with this format: Chestnut, the 17-time champion at Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest, and Bolt, the eight-time gold medal-winning sprinter, each would have to eat a hot dog before starting the race. Max Homa, Collin Morikawa and Sahith Theegala predicted the winner would be Chestnut. Jordan Spieth and Maverick McNealy predicted Bolt would win. And what does Chestnut think? 'It could be really close,'' he said. Chestnut said he'd be less concerned with how fast the 38-year-old Jamaican can run than how fast Bolt can eat a hot dog. Chestnut, who recently won the Nathan's contest on July 4 by eating 70.5 hot dogs and buns during the 10-minute competition, said he can eat a hot dog in about 2.5 seconds and likely would need it to take Bolt about 12 seconds. 'It's possible,'' Chestnut said. 'I forget that some people aren't the fastest eaters. So if there was a judge that didn't let him start until he swallowed the hot dog…'' One problem: Chestnut said he has plates and screws in his right leg after breaking it two years and his left leg is a half inch longer than his right leg. 'It's not ideal,'' he said, adding, 'Every once in a while, I jog a little bit with the dog.'' Another hitch: Chestnut said the idea was broached a year or two ago and 'it didn't seem like he was interested.'' Nevertheless, Chestnut said he might start training for the hot-dog-and-100-meters race. 'I'm going to try it,'' he said. 'We have a long straightaway not too far from my house. I'm only going to get faster unless I hurt myself.''

Rory McIlroy, 36, Reflects on Underappreciated Value Ahead of Genesis Scottish Open

Rory McIlroy, 36, Reflects on Underappreciated Value Ahead of Genesis Scottish Open originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Media activities are officially underway ahead of the Genesis Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland, where Rory McIlroy once again finds himself under the spotlight. Advertisement In his Wednesday press conference, McIlroy touched on a theme he believes is underappreciated across all sports: longevity. "I think it's one of the underappreciated things about any sport and anyone, like you look at what Novak Djokovic is doing at Wimbledon over the last couple of weeks, or what someone like Cristiano Ronaldo is still doing at 40 years old, or a Tom Brady in American football. That longevity piece, I think, is something that maybe isn't talked about enough because once you get to a certain level… it takes just as much work, if not more work, to stay there." He added that adapting his game as he ages has become critical to remaining competitive against younger stars such as world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler. Advertisement Since turning professional in 2007, McIlroy has amassed a significant number of professional victories, including 29 on the PGA Tour and 19 on the European Tour. He's captured five major championships in that time, including the U.S. Open (2011), The Open Championship (2014), PGA Championship (2012, 2014) and most recently, the Masters Tournament, a win that completed the career Grand Slam. McIlroy previously won the Scottish Open in 2023, finished fourth in 2024, and he is one of the favorites to win this year's title. Advertisement The roster, headlined by Scheffler, McIlroy, two‑time major winner Xander Schauffele and defending champion Robert MacIntyre, promises a lot of drama and buildup for next week's Open Championship.
