JusGO drink launched to boost local agro-food market
KOTA KINABALU (Aug 2): The Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) has launched a new agro-food product, the JusGO Mango Drink Powder, in a strategic effort to enhance the competitiveness of local farming entrepreneurs and expand the market for fruit-based products nationally and regionally.
Officially unveiled on Saturday in conjunction with the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen's Day (HPPNK) 2025, JusGO is based on the Tobiar Gold melon and developed by the MADA H-II Kepala Batas Area Farmers' Organisation (PPK) in collaboration with the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI).
Using advanced spray drying technology, JusGO preserves the flavour, colour, aroma and natural nutrients of mangoes — particularly Vitamin C and Vitamin A — making it a healthy and convenient option for modern consumers. The powdered drink can be enjoyed with hot or cold water and is packaged in a lightweight, easy-to-carry design, complementing existing products like Tobiar Gold Mango Juice and ready-to-drink options.
As part of the product launch, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged between PPK MADA H-II Kepala Batas and PPK Putatan, under the supervision of the Malaysian Farmers' Organisation (LPP).
The MoU, witnessed by Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Dato' Sri Arthur Joseph Kurup, aims to strengthen cross-regional collaboration in areas such as promotion, distribution, technology transfer, training, and product development for agro-entrepreneurs.
The initiative aligns with the Malaysia Madani vision, which emphasises community well-being through local economic empowerment, food security, and sustainable agricultural development.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen's Day here on Sunday, Anwar said the Federal Government will also continue to safeguard the nation's sovereignty against any form of intrusion, whether on land or at sea. He further emphasised that Malaysia is prepared to bring matters concerning Sabah's rights and the country's sovereignty to international court proceedings if necessary. 'Why are we doing this? Because this is our country — Sabah is part of Malaysia. We are spending tens of millions of Ringgit, maybe a hundred million Ringgit, to defend our rights. We will not allow even an inch of our land or sea to be encroached upon. 'Wherever it may be — in the Spanish courts or internationally — we will fight to the maximum to defend Sabah's rights because Sabah is part of Malaysia,' he said. Also present were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, and his deputy Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup. Anwar said the MADANI Government is committed to driving Sabah's development and resolving demands under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) through various initiatives and allocations, stressing that the relationship between the state and Federal Governments must remain strong. Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said among the resolved matters is the interim special grant for Sabah, which has been increased from RM300 million to RM600 million this year, along with an allocation of RM10 billion to complete the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah. 'It (Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah) was delayed under the previous government, but we are continuing it under the responsibility of the Federal Government. Maybe it's not visible yet, not completed, but at least we've approved it and the work packages are in progress,' he said. On utilities, Anwar said the Federal Government has given full authority over electricity supply management to the state government, along with continuous subsidies for seven years until 2030 amounting to RM3.54 billion. To address the ongoing water supply issues, the Federal Government has approved an allocation of RM300 million, in addition to handing over projects worth under RM50 million to the state administration.

Sabahan wins national award for million-ringgit aquaculture success

KOTA KINABALU (Aug 3): From a humble start-up capital of just RM5,000, Sabah's prominent young entrepreneur and athlete Jonathan Wong has built a thriving aquaculture business with annual revenue surpassing RM1 million in just nine years. In recognition of his achievements, Jonathan was conferred the 'Penternak Ikan Jaya' award by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the award presentation and closing ceremony of the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen's Day (HPPNK) 2025 held at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here on Sunday. He received a trophy and RM20,000 cash prize from Anwar, in the presence of the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup and Deputy Chief Minister cum Agriculture and Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan. 'I would like to thank my company and team for their dedication and hard work, and to my family for their unwavering support. 'It is because of all of you that I am fortunate to receive this national Penternak Ikan Jaya award and recognition today,' said Wong during an interview after receiving the award. Jonathan is the elder son of Sabahan entrepreneur and Chinese community leader Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen and Datuk Wong Ten An. In addition to serving as the executive director of WSG Group, he has also founded and expanded his own aquaculture business in Tuaran. Jonathan said he established his company in 2016 with only RM5,000 in capital. After nine years of hard work, research and development, the company now earns over RM1 million in annual revenue. The company's core operations include the farming of white shrimp, milkfish, hydroponics, eggs farming and related processed products. Moving forward, Jonathan said his company aims to adopt more IoT-based systems to increase both production output and quality through smart farming technologies. 'We will implement more modern technologies and methods to improve the survival rates and the quality of aquaculture products,' he said. Jonathan is known for his boldness in innovation, having cultured duckweed as a key ingredient in fish feed, a breakthrough that earned him the Most Outstanding Commercial Collaboration Award in Eskpo Kecemerlangan Reka Cipta (Excocipta) 2024. Jonathan is not only a successful young entrepreneur with a sharp business acumen but also a world-class athlete, having represented Malaysia in international long jump competitions. He has won numerous major awards, including two gold medals at the World Para Athletics Grand Prix and making it into the Paralympic finals twice, bringing glory to the nation. Wong is also dedicated to nurturing future athletes. He currently serves as the president of the Sabah Para Swimming Association, which under his leadership, achieved an impressive 17 gold, seven silver and three bronze medals at the XXI Sukma Para Games in Sarawak last year. The 'Penternak Ikan Jaya' award is one of Malaysia's prestigious agriculture sector honors that aims to honour individuals or businesses with outstanding achievements in aquaculture, especially fish farming. Agriculture must embrace tech to remain competitive, says Hajiji
KOTA KINABALU: Farmers, breeders and fishermen in Sabah must be open to change and ready to adopt modern technology and smart farm management practices to remain competitive in the evolving agro-food sector. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said this at the closing ceremony of the National Farmers, Breeders, and Fishermen's Day (HPPNK) 2025 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) on Sunday (Aug 3). 'The future of this sector depends on the community's ability to innovate and adapt to the new landscape of modern agriculture,' he said. Hajiji said that agriculture was the third-largest contributor to Sabah's economy, contributing RM12.2bil, or 14.5% to the state's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officiated the closing ceremony of HPPNK 2025. It was also attended by Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, as well as other federal and state leaders.
