Mitsubishi Power inks gas turbine supply deal for Al Wahda power plant in Morocco

Mitsubishi Power has bagged an order from Morocco's National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) to supply two M701JAC gas turbines and auxiliary equipment for the Al Wahda Open Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant.
The peaker power plant is located near Al Wahda Dam in the Province of Ouazzane in the north of Morocco.
Mitsubishi Power said in a statement that the plant's two gas turbines will generate a combined 990 megawatts (MW), representing nearly 7 percent of Morocco's national grid capacity.
The plant is expected to begin operation in 2027, the statement said without disclosing the contract value.
In October 2024, Zawya Projects had reported that a consortium of China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) and Mitsubishi Power have been awarded an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract worth $595 million for the Al Wahda power project.

The source didn't disclose the month of award but said the project completion date has been pushed to the fourth quarter of 2028 from the second quarter of 2027. He added that the total project cost, according to his estimates, is $100 million. Al Yamamah Steel awards steel wind towers supply contract to Chinese company

Al Yamamah Steel Industries Co. has signed two contracts with China's SEPCOIII Electric Power Construction Co. for supplying steel wind towers for two projects. The combined value of the contracts is 68.66 million Saudi riyals ($18.31 million), the company said in two separate statements to the Saudi stock exchange. The first contract includes supplying steel wind towers to Al Ghat Wind Farm valued at SAR 35.70, while the second contract is for providing steel wind towers to Waad Al Shamal Farm for SAR 32.96 million. Both contracts have a six-month duration, starting in August. The financial impact is expected to be reflected in the company's financial statements in third quarter of 2025, the statement said. Iraq's Basra Governorate has awarded a major seawater desalination project to a consortium comprising Iraq's Al-Rida Group and Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina) Mobilisation for the 1 million cubic metres per day (m3/day) project, which will use reverse osmosis technology, has started, a statement issued by the Basra governor's office said. The project scope also includes a dedicated power station to secure uninterrupted electricity for operations, and a 240-kilometre water transmission network connecting to nine main distribution centres across the governorate. The statement didn't disclose project costs or timelines. PowerChina has delivered over seven desalination projects in the region, including the 900,000 m³/day Taweelah plant in Abu Dhabi, the world's largest reverse osmosis facility, and the Rabigh 3 and Jubail plants in Saudi Arabia (600,000 m³/day each).
