'Our parents are stuck in prison in Iran - their trip of lifetime turned into hell'

The couple who have now been detained six months, were travelling on motorcycles from their home in Andalusia, Spain, all the way to Melbourne, Australia, before they were imprisoned. The distraught children of a Brit couple stuck in an Iranian prison after the trip of a lifetime went wrong have spoken out as they fight for their release. Lindsay and Craig Foreman originally from East Sussex had embarked on a motorcycle trip across the world when they were arrested in Iran on espionage charges which their family strongly deny, saying they are "not spies". ‌ The couple who have now been detained six months, were travelling on motorcycles from their home in Andalusia, Spain, all the way to Melbourne, Australia, before they were imprisoned. ‌ Along the way, their family say they hoped to forge connections, learn what makes a great community, and explore what makes a good life, with Lindsay, 53, planning on presenting her findings at a conference once they reached their final destination. Speaking to the Mirror, Lindsay's son Joe, 31, said: "I was excited for them, Mum and Craig were going on the trip of a lifetime. "It's amazing what they were doing – it was about finding out more about all parts of the world. The whole trip was for around 200 days, and Iran was to be only four days. "To us, they were just passing through. They had taken advice, they had a guide, and all the right things in place. All they were doing was making new connections and spreading the love." Craig's son Kieren also said: "They had a purpose which was to build a better understanding of everyday life and families around the world, not just a Western civilisation. ‌ "We had a lot of conversations about it before, and they took all the precautions they thought would be required." The Foreign Office warns against any travel to Iran for British or British-Iranian dual nationals, cautioning that there is a serious risk of being detained. ‌ However, Craig, 52, and Lindsay's passion for understanding other people and celebrating humanity motivated them to take the motorcycle trip - which was also a moving tribute to Lindsay's late brother. "Part of this trip was an homage to my mum's brother Ashley. "Mum had to overcome a massive fear of motorbikes - her brother Ashley tragically died in a crash when she was a teenager. But she was determined, and she passed her motorcycle test. ‌ "Dad, always the practical one, took care of the gear and bikes. Together, they mapped out the route with care and precision, aiming to arrive in time for the Positive Psychology Conference in Melbourne." The couple were due to be transferred to Tehran's infamous Evin prison in early June - ahead of Israel's strikes on the facility. For over a month, Joe, Kieren, and their siblings, Toby and Chelsea, had no idea whether their parents had been transferred to Evin, or if they had been injured or even killed in the strikes. ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! The brothers said: "We have been informed by the Foreign Office via the Iranian MFA that they are in Kerman, and this message said that they were being held in health and safety conditions, but we don't know exactly where or how they are. "We are limited on the information we are given on the condition, and we were told they are in a rather small cell together. We think they had a bed, but before they were sleeping on the floor and apart. ‌ "They are trying to keep fit by running in a figure of 8 around that room, but we know that at one time Mum (Lindsay) had problems with her back, and Dad (Craig) also wasn't walking right." Joe says that he spends "every day worried about their wellbeing" and is "fearful for how they are" adding that it is "upsetting you can't just pick up the phone and speak to them." The siblings hope that people will contact their MPs to join them in calling for Craig and Lindsay's release, as well as signing their petition and following the campaign on social media to help to raise awareness.

The Scottish caravan park 'just a short walk' from one of country's best beaches

One visitor described the views as "second to none". As we enter the middle of July, the summer season is officially halfway over. That means time is running out to book a family holiday before autumn rolls around. When it comes to staycations in Scotland, the only limit is your imagination. Whether you are looking for a quiet woodlands retreat or a fun coastal getaway, you have plenty of options. ‌ However, sometimes nothing beats a good old-fashioned caravan park. One new park that has already earned positive reviews from visitors is Melvich Bay Caravan Park. ‌ The 25-acre caravan and campervan park is located along the north coast of Sutherland, on the popular North Coast 500 scenic driving route. According to staff, the site is approaching 70 per cent occupancy. Director and local farmer Angus Forbes, who launched the business in March with two co-directors, commented: "Demand from visitors has been exceptional. Customer satisfaction has been overwhelming and we're heading towards 66 per cent occupancy on the site. "We were only expecting 25 per cent occupancy in the first three months. We've even had an enquiry from a couple interested in coming up from the central belt to get married on our park—which is unexpected—but flattering!" Melvich Bay Caravan Park benefits from panoramic views of Orkney and the North Atlantic Ocean. It lies on the outskirts of the village of Melvich, "a short walk away" from the sandy Melvich Beach. As reported by the Daily Record, Melvich Beach was recently named among the best beaches in Scotland by The Times. The newspaper praised the bay for being well-suited to campervans and described it as a "wide curve of ochre sand". ‌ Melvich Bay Caravan Park owners launched the business to address a shortage of facilities for travellers on the increasingly popular North Coast 500 route. They hope to grow bookings month by month on reputation, recommendations, and the appeal of its pitches. The park features 30 pitches of 12 square metres for camper vans, motorhomes, and other visitors. It charges £35 for an overnight stay, with amenities including modern toilet and shower facilities and chemical waste disposal. ‌ Among the happy visitors to Melvich Bay Caravan Park are Kelvin Pitt, whose Google review describes the outlook of the beach as "second to none". The holidaymaker adds that he would "recommend this site all day long". With demand well ahead of expectations, the directors are increasing their focus on sustainable tourism. In a letter sent to local stakeholders, including Highland and Islands Enterprise and Highland Council, Melvich Bay Caravan Park director Malcolm Morrison calls for the Leave No Trace campaign—which urges North Coast 500 holidaymakers to take their litter home—to be "beefed-up". ‌ Morrison wrote: "The North Coast 500's Leave No Trace policy already makes it clear on its website that illegal disposal of waste is unacceptable, but it is the belief of my co-directors and I that a substantially beefed-up campaigning should be developed and broadcast widely throughout the region ahead of this year's busy tourist season." He added: "While thousands of annual visitors to our Highland communities have been an economic boon, the environmental disruption of litter and, worse, recklessly discarded biological waste, has been a rightful source of local complaint."

Huge earthquake hits Spain holiday hotspot as buildings in dozens of towns shake

The 5.5 magnitude earthquake was especially felt in the towns of Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar in the Axarquía region, as well in parts of Málaga city. A huge earthquake of a 5.5 magnitude has hit a popular tourist location in southern Spain this morning. The massive tremors were felt in more than 50 towns, including the big tourist region of Costa del Sol. ‌ The Axarquía region in southern Spain - home to Malaga city - saw most of the blast, especially in the towns Velez-Malaga and Torre del Mar. The area often experiences earthquakes, due to the coasts of Spain, Morocco, Algeria and Italy lying on a fault line, reports the Daily Star. ‌ A tourist in the coastal town of Agua Amarga in Almeria told Spanish newspaper El País: "I was sleeping, and the whole house shook for a few seconds. "There was an incredible roar. It woke up my entire family and the neighbours in the complex." On the magnitude scale, quakes between 3.5 and 5.4 are typically felt by people, though they rarely cause major damage to structures. Anything under 6.0 rarely inflicts serious damage on well-built structures, though weaker buildings may see some minor cracks or effects. In fact, the strongest quake near Spain in the last decade has been magnitude 5.4, making one of that size fairly rare for the region. The magnitude of earthquakes are measured using scales like the Richter scale and the Moment Magnitude scale. ‌ Although the Richter scale is still sometimes used, modern seismology relies more heavily on the Moment Magnitude scale for accurate measurements of larger earthquakes. Last year locals in Gran Canaria were left startled after the island started rumbling at around 7:20pm local time on September 10. ‌ Seismologists declared it as the fiercest in 60 years. Itahiza Dominguez, who works as a director for the National Geographic Institute, confirmed the fact to the media. In several Spanish cities, such as Malaga, there has been a wave of protestors against tourists, with more than 15,000 protestors flooding Malaga's streets in June last year, riding the crest of anti-mass-tourism demonstrations across Spain during the summer. Protestors waved banners with messages like: "We feel strangers in our own city" and "Malaga is for the people of Malaga, tourism forces us out." ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
