IndyCar expert picks, predictions for Mid-Ohio
From Nathan Brown, IndyStar
We're in the back half of a 17-race season, and Palou and Kirkwood are the only drivers to take checkered flags.
Is anyone besides Alex Palou or Kyle Kirkwood allowed to win a race? If so, who?
Marcus Ericsson. Of all the drivers in the field sorely in need of a pick-me-up, the fact that Ericsson sits 21st in points just a single top-10 is one of the year's biggest headscratchers. And yet, he heads to a track where he's finished in the top 6 in 4 of his last 5 starts, and where he started and finished 5th a year ago. He's finished on the podium here before (2021, runner-up), and this is a track where Andretti Global has shown speed in years past.
What is something no one sees coming? Amazingly, we finally get our third winner of the year in Colton Herta. He has only done that in two of his last 10 pole starts. It will be his 10th career victory and Andretti Global's fourth of the year, its most since 2018.

Video: 'Horrific' IndyCar Crash Sunday Morning

Video: 'Horrific' IndyCar Crash Sunday Morning originally appeared on The Spun. There was a "horrific" IndyCar crash on Sunday morning. A massive IndyCar NXT crash took place at the event in Mid-Ohio on Sunday morning. The horrible crash happened at the Indy NXT Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio on Sunday. Advertisement Sebastian Murray and Ricardo Escotto were involved in the huge crash, with Murray going airborne after hitting a barrier. The accident happened after Escotto's Andretti Cape Motorsport's car's front left wheel made contact with Murray's left back wheel. It sent both of them into the barrier. Both drivers were able to emerge from their vehicles OK, though they appeared to be pretty shaken up. IndyCar had more: Riding against the barrier, Murray's car than began to lift and flipped before a barrage of dirt and carbon fibre were dragged onto the track by his car. Both drivers stepped out of the car and seemed on initial look to be ok but Escotto was visibly shaken by the incident and could be seen perched on the grass by his stricken blue and black Indy NXT vehicle. The two drivers were involved in a fight just outside the top ten and were sat in 11th and 12th. Video of the crash has gone viral. Our thoughts are with both drivers and their friends and family members following this scary crash. It will likely be one that they live with for a while out on the track. Kiwis rule in US - Van Gisbergen, Dixon title double

Shane van Gisbergen and veteran Scott Dixon have delivered a day of New Zealand dominance in US motorsport with a mighty title double. Three-time Supercars champion van Gisbergen completed a weekend sweep on the Chicago Street Course, winning the NASCAR Cup Series race on the tricky downtown circuit on Sunday. It was van Gisbergen's second victory of the season and his third career Cup win, havingalso triumphed in Chicago in 2023 when he became the first driver to win in his Cup Series debut since 1963. Shane van Gisbergen wins at Chicago, he has won 4 of the 6 races held at the three wins, SVG is now the winningest foreign born driver in NASCAR Cup Series history. — NASCAR Insights (@NASCARInsights) July 6, 2025 It capped a dominant weekend for the 38-year-old Kiwi who won the second-tier Xfinity Series race from the pole Saturday. He also was the top qualifier for the Cup race. Van Gisbergen regained the lead when he passed Chase Briscoe with 16 laps left. As fog moved into downtown Chicago with thunderstorms in the forecast, van Gisbergen controlled the action the rest of the way. "I love this place."We bet you do, @shanevg97. 🏉 — NASCAR (@NASCAR) July 6, 2025 In Lexington, Ohio, Dixon extended a remarkable streak when he notched his first win of the IndyCar season at the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio. Family.@scottdixon9 | @CGRTeams — INDYCAR on FOX (@IndyCarOnFOX) July 6, 2025 The New Zealander, who turns 45 later this month, has now won an IndyCar Series race in every season since 2005, a 21-year streak. It marks the 59th victory of his illustrious career. Dixon drove his No. 9 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda to victory lane after teammate and series leader Alex Palou made a crucial error down the stretch. Dixon owed Mom a win ✅Got it done at @Mid_Ohio 🙌 — NTT INDYCAR SERIES (@IndyCar) July 6, 2025 Palou had a slight lead with five laps to go but ran wide as his No. 10 car reached Turn 9. The Spaniard slowed down in the dirt and Dixon made it past him, taking the lead the rest of the way. The win was timely for Dixon, who entered the week tied for fourth in the points race and last got the chequered flag at the 2024 Detroit Grand Prix 13 months ago. - with Reuters

Prayers Pouring In After 'Horrific' IndyCar Crash Sunday

Prayers Pouring In After 'Horrific' IndyCar Crash Sunday originally appeared on The Spun. Prayers are pouring in after a "horrific" IndyCar crash on Sunday morning. The Indy NXT Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio took place on Sunday morning. Unfortunately, it featured one heck of a crash. Two drivers - Sebastian Murray and Ricardo Escotto - were involved in the huge crash, which saw one of the drivers going airborne. Escotto's front left wheel made contact with Murray's back left wheel heading into a turn. It sent both of them into the barrier. Murray's car lifted into the air and went airborne, flipping. A ton of dirt and debris filled the air. It was a scary scene. had more: Both drivers stepped out of the car and seemed on initial look to be ok but Escotto was visibly shaken by the incident and could be seen perched on the grass by his stricken blue and black Indy NXT vehicle. The two drivers were involved in a fight just outside the top ten and were sat in 11th and 12th. Murray was drafting on Bryce Aron in his Chip Ganassi Car ahead moments before the crash happened. Prayers are pouring in for everyone involved. "Man, I'm glad they were okay. That looked BAD," one fan wrote. "Really scary," one fan added. "Crazy crash glad everyone is alright," one fan added. "That crash was brutal—so glad they walked away. Wild how quick things can go wrong in open-wheel racing. OwenTurnertrade's probably breaking down the safety tech that saved them," one fan added. "Have never personally seen a flip in Indy NXT until now. Glad Escotto and Murray walked away from this. Terrifying wreck," one fan added. "Watched this live on my TV, and my God fortunes changed in a split second," one fan added. "The ONE DAY I watch F1 instead of NXT we get a horrendous incident," one fan added. Our thoughts are with the two drivers as this will surely be a difficult crash to live with moving forward.
