Pakistan, China partner to boost economy

Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has said the goal of 'Uraan Pakistan' is to make Pakistan a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2035.
In a step toward that ambition, an agreement was reached on Sunday between the Ministry of Planning and China's Development Research Center (DRC) to enhance economic cooperation.
The understanding was formalized during a meeting between Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Lu Hao, President of China's Development Research Center (DRC) and Center for International Knowledge on Development (CIKD).
Uraan Pakistan is a national initiative aimed at transforming Pakistan into one of the world's leading economies by prioritizing innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability. Guided by the 5Es Framework, it focuses on five critical areas: exports, digital transformation, environment and climate change, energy and infrastructure development, and equity and empowerment. The initiative seeks to diversify the economy and enhance Pakistan's global market position through export growth.
Through joint research, training programs, and expert exchanges, China will assist Pakistan in strengthening its economic foundations.
Hao expressed confidence in Pakistan's strategy to become an export-oriented economy.
"Strong economic cooperation between Pakistan and China is the key to national development," said Ahsan Iqbal.
"CPEC has transformed the everlasting friendship into an economic and social partnership beyond political cooperation," he stated.
Iqbal emphasized Pakistan's intent to draw lessons from China's economic growth and reforms. "Pakistan is eager to learn from China's economic and reform successes," he said. "China's scientific planning is a guiding light for long-term and sustainable economic development."
Speaking about the domestic economic outlook, Iqbal said the government's "Uraan Pakistan" initiative is aimed at stabilizing and growing the national economy. "Through the Uraan Pakistan program, the national economy is moving toward stability," he said. "The goal of 'Uraan Pakistan' is to make Pakistan a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2035," the Minister added.
He noted encouraging signs from the economic front. "International institutions are confirming the positive indicators of the Pakistani economy," he said. "The policy rate has decreased from 23% to 11%," he added.
Referring to market performance, the Minister stated, "The Pakistan Stock Exchange has surpassed 140,000 points."
Highlighting trade potential with China, Iqbal said, "China imports approximately $2 trillion annually, whereas Pakistan's share in it is extremely small." He stressed, "Pakistan wants to promote trade and exports with China."
He further said, "Gaining access to Chinese markets is an important economic objective."

Kashmir dispute resolution key pillar of foreign policy: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the just resolution of Jammu and Kashmir dispute was a key pillar of Pakistan's foreign policy and urged the international community to play a role to halt Indian human rights crimes in IIOJK and reverse its unilateral and illegal actions of 5 August 2019. The prime minister, in his message on Youm-e-Istehsal, also called for global community's role in urging India to repeal the draconian laws and implement the UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir. The prime minister said: 'On this Youm-e-Istehsal, the Government of Pakistan and I reaffirm the unwavering solidarity of the Pakistani people with our Kashmiri sisters and brothers. We reiterate our strongest condemnation of India's illegal and unilateral actions taken since 5 August 2019 to alter the demographic structure, and political landscape of Illegally Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), in complete defiance of international law, norms and principles, as well as the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council'. Calling Youm-e-Istehsal a sobering reminder of India's rejection of peace and stability and its investment in brutality and unilateralism, he said that the continued denial of the basic human rights, dignity and identity of Kashmiris living under India's illegal and unconscionable occupation was a recipe for regional instability. The prime minister said that India's occupation could not be sustained by any normal means, and it has thus doubled down on a nearly eight-decade regime of state terrorism and oppression. 'The brave Kashmiri people have endured this brutality with incredible dignity. Today is a day for all Pakistanis, and all peace-loving people of the world, to salute the unwavering resilience and spirit of sacrifice of the Kashmiri people.' He said that the efforts to silence the genuine leadership of the Kashmiri people were part of the wider hegemonic and extremist agenda that informs India's illegal occupation of Kashmir. Prime Minister said 'The imprisonment of Kashmiri leaders and activists, including Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik and Masarrat Alam Bhatt will never dim the resolve of our Kashmiri sisters and brothers. The continued defiance of Kashmiris in an environment of unending intimidation across the illegal Indian occupation is more proof of the indomitable courage of the Kashmiri people'. He said that India's illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir remained the defining conflict of the South Asia region, and the driver of India's continued rogue behaviour. 'India's unprovoked aggression against Pakistan in May 2025, and its swift and comprehensive military defeat are only the latest evidence of the urgent need for the international community to ensure that the resolution of the Kashmir dispute becomes a global priority. The will and aspirations of the Kashmiri people, in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions is the only path forward.' The prime minister also reaffirmed Pakistan's unflinching stance, moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people till the realization of their inalienable right to self-determination.

TOMCL enters new market in Tajikistan

KARACHI: The Organic Meat Company Limited (TOMCL) has announced a significant expansion of its international market presence with its entry into Tajikistan, a new market within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) region. The company has secured confirmed export orders for frozen boneless beef valued at $3.24 million, which are to be fulfilled over the current financial year. This move marks a strategic breakthrough for TOMCL, solidifying its position as a major Halal meat exporter from Pakistan and continuing its expansion into high-potential emerging markets. The company has already started production and exports of the frozen boneless beef, which has been specifically tailored to meet Tajikistan's import regulations and standards. TOMCL's latest success builds upon its previous export ventures into the CIS region, which include Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan. The company highlights several key factors contributing to this milestone, including a growing demand for Pakistani Halal meat in untapped Eurasian markets and strong customer confidence in TOMCL's quality and logistics capabilities. This also diversifies the company's export portfolio beyond the GCC, ASEAN, and MENA regions. According to the company, this development will help support Pakistan's national agenda for export diversification, generate positive foreign exchange inflows, and strengthen the country's footprint in non-traditional meat export markets. TOMCL's management stated its commitment to further expanding its Halal meat export base across Central Asia, the CIS, and Eastern Europe. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025
