Knightsbridge killing: Three arrested over knife attack in 'Rolex Ripper' hotspot
Officers, ambulance and air ambulance services responded to reports of a stabbing in Seville Street at about 9.30pm on Wednesday. They said Blue Stevens, 24, was found with stab wounds and died at the scene.
Mr Stevens was stabbed to death in front of his partner near Harvey Nichols department store and the five-star Park Tower Club hotel. The hotel is home to the Nusr-Et Steakhouse run by celebrity chef Salt Bae.
Det Chief Supt Christina Jessah said officers 'retain an open mind around motive', but one line of inquiry is now that this may have been a 'targeted attack'.
There have been previous suggestions that the victim died after trying to fight off robbers. The upmarket area of London has gained a reputation for "Rolex Ripper" watch robberies.
Three men in their 20s have been arrested, the Metropolitan Police said. Two were arrested at an address in Hounslow on Saturday, the force added. One man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. He remains in police custody.
Another man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He has been bailed pending further inquiries.
After their arrests, Met officers obtained a warrant to search two properties in Chiswick where 'significant evidence' was recovered, the Met Police said.
The third man was arrested on Monday on suspicion of assisting an offender. He remains in police custody.
'These arrests mark a significant milestone in this complex and unfolding murder investigation," said Det Chief Supt Jessah, who leads policing in Central West London.
'Increased police patrols remain active in and around the Knightsbridge area. Please do speak with an officer if you have any questions or concerns.'
Mr Stevens's next of kin continue to be supported by specialist officers.
Flowers were laid at the scene in Knightsbridge by two women who said they were family on Thursday. A card placed with the flowers read: "Blue Stevens, may you rest in peace. Pray for the broken-hearted."
At the scene on Thursday, Mortada Ahmed, who was staying at the hotel and works for families in Bahrain who spend their holidays in London, told The National that the city feels increasingly unsafe. He said he does not walk on the street and takes cars everywhere.
'It's getting worse, and in Paris too,' Mr Ahmed said.

DJI publishes annual report, highlights key achievements
The Dubai Judicial Institute (DJI) has issued its annual report for 2024, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to empowering the judicial workforce and enhancing its capabilities. The report highlights a series of exceptional achievements that underscore the Institute's pivotal role in advancing judicial and legal competencies. These efforts reflect the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and the guidance of Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, and Chairman of the Dubai Judicial Council. The ultimate objective of all such efforts exerted by the DJI is to strengthen the efficiency of the judicial system, promote upskilling, and implement global best practices to deliver swift, efficient, and accessible justice. According to the report, 2024 marked a qualitative leap in the DJI's wide-ranging programme, with its sustained efforts culminating in remarkable achievements while reinforcing its commitment to the highest standards of quality and excellence. One of the most notable of these achievements is the institutional accreditation it received from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Recognising the Institute's leadership in elevating the quality of its programmes in terms of innovative content and delivery through its smart digital platforms serving the Arab judicial community, it was honoured by the Arab Center for Legal and Judicial Research operating under the auspices of the League of Arab States with the 'Arab Judicial Training Excellence Shield' Award for 2024. The report highlighted the launch of the Dubai Judicial Training Platform, which is designed as an integrated digital gateway for the diverse training programmes offered by the Institute. The platform enables trainees to manage self-learning content and maximise the benefits of training anytime and anywhere. The report spotlighted the implementation of 131 training programmes benefiting 7,337 individuals who aggregated 2,066 training hours through the courses. A total of 986 local and international entities from across the public and private sectors benefited from the programmes. Underscoring this aspect, and exemplifying its efforts to promote innovation, the DJI launched the 'Virtual Crime Scene in the Metaverse' programme, representing a qualitative leap in practical and applied training for members of the Public Prosecution in Dubai. The initiative aims to enhance skills amongst members of the Public Prosecution in conducting inspections in criminal cases and handling evidence at the crime scene within a safe, interactive virtual environment that simulates reality. The DJI also earned two ISO certifications – ISO 22301:2019 for Business Continuity Management Systems and ISO 9001:2015 for Quality Management Systems – following comprehensive audits that validated its adoption of best institutional practices in preparing and qualifying national talent to work in the judiciary while showcasing high levels of efficiency and competence, promoting and disseminating scientific research, and enhancing legal awareness within the community. In addition, the Institute launched the second edition of the 'Future Research' competition, building on the success of its first edition and reaffirming its commitment to fostering innovation in legal thought and encouraging legal researchers to share new perspectives in line with the changing global media landscape. Driven by its strategic vision and belief in the importance of institutional collaboration and expanding the scope of local, regional, and international partnerships, the Dubai Judicial Institute in 2024 strengthened its institutional partnerships. Teaming up with leading judicial, legal, and academic entities locally and internationally, the DJI has achieved significant success in promoting knowledge exchange and the sharing of best practices. Through such partnerships, the DJI seeks to develop training and qualification standards, promote sector-specific research, and support its vision of leadership in offering judicial and legal training, thereby contributing to the advancement of the judicial system at both the national and international levels. Dubai Police extradite alleged crime lord wanted for trafficking in Belgium
Dubai Police have arrested and extradited three alleged Belgian crime gang leaders facing human and drug trafficking charges in their home country. The three suspects — Mathias Akyazili, Giorgi Faes and Othman El Ballouti — were listed in the most-wanted category by the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) and the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation (Europol). Dubai Media Office said on Sunday that the three men were held based on Interpol red notices issued against them, in an operation carried out by police in Dubai in close co-ordination with international law enforcement agencies. The trio have been handed over to authorities in their native Belgium, where they are accused of serious cross-border crimes, including operating a gang, trafficking narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, committing robbery and engaging in human trafficking. El Ballouti was sanctioned by the US government in July 2023 on suspicion of international drug trafficking. The Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said he oversaw an international crime network responsible for smuggling "significant quantities of cocaine via shipping containers through the Port of Antwerp in Belgium for wider distribution throughout Europe". Dubai Police previously announced his arrest in connection with international organised crime and drug trafficking in December, 2024. The Belga News Agency in Belgium said at the time that his arrest represented a breakthrough for efforts in the country to target drug lords operating abroad. It said El Ballouti was sentenced in his absence to seven years imprisonment for trafficking 840kg of cocaine. His extradition and those of his two fellow suspects followed a Dubai Police investigation, conducted in co-ordination with the Ministry of Interior and led by the General Department of Criminal Investigation, in response to an international arrest warrant submitted by Belgian authorities to the International Co-operation Department at the UAE Ministry of Justice. "All required legal and judicial formalities were duly complied with before proceeding with the extradition request," Dubai Media Office said. Dubai Police emphasised its commitment to supporting efforts to build a strong global security network to combat criminal activity. Ministers discuss extradition Abdullah Al Nuaimi, the UAE's Minister of Justice, spoke by phone with Annelies Verlinden, Belgium's Minister of Justice, after a plane carrying the three wanted men arrived in Belgium. The suspects were extradited under rulings issued by the Dubai Court of Cassation, in line with bilateral agreements in place between the Emirates and Belgium. An extradition treaty was agreed between the countries in December 2021 and came into force the following November. Both ministers said joint co-operation demonstrated the commitment of both nations to the fight against organised crime and drugs-related violence and to ensuring those accused of serious offences are brought to justice.
