JB man nabbed for allegedly attacking 12-year-old girl with hammer
Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh confirmed that the police received a report from the victim's parent at around 5.19pm on Saturday (July 26), claiming that the child had been assaulted by a man with a metal hammer.
A video showing the injured child, who was bleeding from her head, has gone viral on social media.
'Following the report, police then arrested a 39-year-old local man at his residence at about 7.25pm the same day.
'The victim was immediately rushed to Sultanah Aminah Hospital and is currently reported to be in stable condition,' he said here on Tuesday (July 29).
ACP Balveer added the victim sustained a laceration to her scalp and swelling to her right hand due to the attack.
He also said that checks revealed that the suspect has a history of multiple criminal and drug-related offences while a urine test also returned positive for methamphetamine.
'The suspect has been remanded for seven days until Aug 2 to assist with the investigation,' he said adding that the case was being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.
ACP Balveer reminded the public to avoid resorting to violence and to always allow authorities to carry out their duties.
'We urge the public to remain calm, act rationally, and refrain from taking the law into their own hands. Avoid violence and respect the rule of law,' he said.

Repeat offender stabbed policeman in Pudu while carrying drugs
KUALA LUMPUR: The man who stabbed a police corporal during a patrol in Pudu last week turned aggressive because he was carrying drugs, says Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. The 56-year-old suspect, a local man, was found to have 14 prior criminal records involving drugs and violent offences. He is currently remanded for seven days until next Thursday, with the case being investigated under Section 307 and Section 186 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and obstructing a public servant, as well as Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Speaking to reporters after visiting the injured officer at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia today, Ayob Khan said Corporal Mohd Nadzri Sudiman of the Pudu police station is in stable condition. "He suffered injuries to the small intestine, with the stab wound about three centimetres wide and seven centimetres deep. Fortunately, it did not hit any vital organs," he said. The officer is now under medical supervision, able to speak but still in pain due to surgery. "God willing, he is expected to recover within one to two weeks," Ayob Khan added. Wife shocked to learn policeman husband stabbed during patrol
KUALA LUMPUR: The wife of a police corporal stabbed while on patrol in Pudu last week described her shock upon receiving a call from the hospital requesting immediate consent for emergency surgery. Norfazliana Osman, 35, said she was at their home in the Pudu police quarters when Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, contacted her around 1pm on Thursday (July 31). "They said they needed to operate immediately and asked for consent as part of his intestines might need to be removed due to the stab wound,' she told reporters at the hospital today. Her husband, Corporal Mohd Nadzri Sudiman, remains in stable condition but is still weak and requires pain management, she said. "I understand the risks of his job as a policeman, but as a wife, the fear is always there,' said Norfazliana, who has two children aged 11 and seven. She said it is uncertain how long her husband will remain hospitalised, but confirmed their children have been informed of his condition. Earlier, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay visited Mohd Nadzri at the hospital.
