Budget airline ‘disappointed' by White House using viral advert for deportation video
Jess Glynne, whose song is also used in the sound, said the post 'honestly makes me feel sick'. The budget airline Jet2 has said they are 'very disappointed' by the White House using their viral advert as a backing track for a deportation video. The ad that features the line 'nothing beats a Jet2 holiday' while Jess Glynne's Hold My Hand plays in the background has been a global hit that has been used in nearly two million videos on TikTok over the summer. Seizing on its popularity, the US administration posted a video on Tuesday showing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents forcing detainees in shackles onto a plane to be deported. The video is captioned: "When ICE books you a one-way Jet2 holiday to deportation. Nothing beats it!" The controversial video News in 90 Seconds, Friday August 1 It also uses the voiceover from the original advert, which says: "Nothing beats a Jet2holiday, and right now you can save £50 per person.' The video has been condemned by both Jess Glynne who said it made her feel 'sick' while a Jet2 spokesperson said they don't endorse the sound being used in the video. 'Our branding has become something of a viral phenomenon this summer and we are pleased to see how many people have used it in good humour,' the spokesperson told PA. 'This has put a smile on many people's faces, just like our holidays do. We are of course aware of a post from the White House social media account. 'This is not endorsed by us in any way, and we are very disappointed to see our brand being used to promote government policy such as this.' Jess Glynne, whose song is also used in the video took to her Instagram to say: 'This post honestly makes me feel sick. My music is about love, unity, and spreading positivity – never about division or hate.' Zoe Lister, the advert's voiceover actress, told the BBC she would "never condone my voiceover being used" to promote what she called "Trump and his abhorrent policies". "The Jet2 meme has spread a lot of joy and humour around the world but the White House video shows that Trump has neither," she added. Jess Glynne It is not the first time the White House has used memes on its social media pages with one recent image depicting US President Donald Trump's face superimposed onto Superman alongside the caption: "The symbol of hope. Truth. Justice. The American Way. Superman Trump." In recent weeks the administration has posted on X: "Nowhere in the constitution does it say we can't post banger memes". The pop group Abba previously complained after their hits including The Winner Takes it All were played at one of Trump's presidential campaign rallies. They requested the videos be removed and taken down. The estate of Sinéad O'Connor has also asked Trump to stop using her music at his political rallies. Her estate told the BBC O'Connor would have been "disgusted, hurt and insulted" by his use of her music. Adele also objected to Rolling In The Deep being used as his "warm-up" music while lawyers for Aerosmith star Steven Tyler sent Trump's campaign a cease-and-desist letter in 2015 after the band's hit single Dream On was played at numerous rallies around the US. President Trump has recently committed $170bn for border and immigration enforcement, including $45m for detention, according to the BBC. ICE, a federal law enforcement agency, will see its funding grow by $76.5bn over five years. The Jet2 advert went viral at the start of the summer has been used in more than two million videos on TikTok. The sound has also been put over disastrous moments such as plane fights, holiday mishaps, and failed travel plans with one of the most popular featuring a woman on a rollercoaster who gets hit in the chest by a seagull.

Jet2 'very disappointed' by White House ICE video using viral sound
Jet2 have said that they don't endorse a video from the White House that uses their viral sound. The airline have gone incredibly viral over the summer, with people sharing videos of their (good and bad) holiday experiences over an old ad for the airline, which has the line 'nothing beats a Jet2 holiday' while Jess Glynne's Hold My Hand plays in the background. Taking to social media earlier this week, Donald Trump's White House shared a video of people being deported while the sound plays, captioning the video 'When ICE books you a one-way Jet2 holiday to deportation. Nothing beats it!' Jet2 have said that they don't endorse a video from the White House that uses their viral sound. Pic: Urbanandsport/NurPhoto via Getty Images The video has been condemned by both Jess Glynne and the airline, with a Jet2 spokesperson saying that they don't endorse the sound being used in the video. 'Our branding has become something of a viral phenomenon this summer and we are pleased to see how many people have used it in good humour,' the spokesperson told PA. 'This has put a smile on many people's faces, just like our holidays do. We are of course aware of a post from the White House social media account. 'This is not endorsed by us in any way, and we are very disappointed to see our brand being used to promote government policy such as this.' Jess Glynne also slammed the video, saying that the viral sound was 'never about division or hate.' Pic: Neil Mockford/FilmMagic Jess Glynne, whose song is also used in the sound, took to her Instagram story to slam the video; saying 'This post honestly makes me feel sick. My music is about love, unity, and spreading positivity – never about division or hate.' The sound has been used in nearly 2million videos on TikTok over the summer, with the woman who told prospective passengers that they'll save £50 per person, Zoë Lister recreating the line during Chris Stark's DJ set at Newmarket Racecourse. When the time came for the song to be played, Zoë made her appearance; telling the crowd that, indeed, nothing beats a Jet2 holiday to cheers. The woman behind the deal, Zoë Lister, has gone viral again after recreating it during a DJ set. Pic: Zoë Lister/TikTok Zoë saw the fun in what is, admittedly, a fairly stupid meme; captioning the video 'I will never be over this! Thanks Chris for being stupid-joy initiator. Arena tour next?' People loved that she was leaning into the meme, with one commenting 'we're so immature and I love it.' 'She's on tour more than Jess Glynne,' another joked, while another commented 'she's living her best life. Get her to Ibiza.'
