Thai police to press charges against engineers, SAO officials over collapsed Bangkok building
A source from the police investigative team stated that these charges are distinct from the cases being investigated by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), which focus on alleged bidding collusion, the use of Thai nominees by a Chinese contractor, and a tax evasion case against a Chinese steel manufacturer.
Police investigators have questioned more than 100 witnesses, including SAO officials, family members of deceased and injured workers, and representatives of companies involved in the construction.
The source noted that the investigation is over 80% complete, and police have collected all necessary evidence, including samples of steel bars, cement slabs, poles, and other materials from the site.
The evidence has been sent to forensic police and technical experts for analysis.
According to the source, more than five individuals are expected to face charges. The suspects will be grouped into two categories: engineers and SAO officials.
The engineers will be charged with failing to adhere to safety regulations, despite being certified and responsible for the project—violating Articles 227 and 238 of the Criminal Code, which relate to negligence causing death and injury.
The SAO officials will be charged with malfeasance or nonfeasance in office, which covers the failure to carry out their official duties or acting inappropriately while in office.
DSI spokesperson, Pol Maj Woranun Srilam, said on Tuesday that the lead investigator briefed the DSI director-general on the latest progress. The DSI is overseeing three key cases related to the building collapse:
1. Use of Thai nominees by Chinese contractor
The investigation involves China Railway No.10 (CREC) (Thailand) Co., Ltd., which allegedly used Thai nominees. The DSI is awaiting written statements from four suspects before submitting the final report to public prosecutors.
2. Alleged Bidding Collusion
Woranun stated that the SAO only conducted bidding for the construction work, but appointed an engineering firm to supervise the project without holding a bidding process. The DSI is collecting additional evidence on this matter.
Some engineers listed as supervisors have claimed their signatures were forged, and the DSI is working with forensic police to verify these claims.
3. Tax Evasion by Steel Manufacturer
Xin Ke Yuan Steel, whose steel bars were used in the SAO project, has denied the tax evasion charges and submitted a tax receipt in defence. The DSI is verifying the receipt with the Department of Business Development. - The Nation/ANN

Soccer-Chinese club Shandong given 2-year ban from Asian club competition after no-show
(Reuters) -Chinese club Shandong Taishan has been banned from Asian club competition for two years for its no-show against South Korean side Ulsan HD in the Asian Champions League (ACL) Elite in February. The Chinese Super League side pulled out hours before the February 19 match, blaming "serious physical discomfort" of players and saying they were unable to form a team. The Asian Football Confederation's (AFC) Disciplinary and Ethics Commission said Shandong would not be able to play in the AFC's club competitions up to and including the 2026/27 season editions, and fined the club $50,000. It also ordered Shandong to return a participation fee of $600,000 and a performance bonus of $200,000 to the AFC along with compensation of $40,000 to Ulsan "in respect of damages and losses claimed" by the South Korean club. Shandong's pull-out came days after the club said it had banned supporters for "inappropriate behaviour" during a home ACL match against South Korean team Gwangju after fans in the crowd displayed images of South Korea's last military dictator Chun Doo-hwan. Hundreds of people are estimated to have died or gone missing when the South Korean government violently put down the Gwangju uprising by pro-democracy protesters in May 1980, when Chun was the de facto leader of the country after leading a military coup. Safe internet campaign educates children on online risks in Kuala Nerang
KUALA NERANG: A total of 101 students from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Lamdin recently took part in the Safe Internet Campaign, aimed at raising awareness about online risks and threats among children. Organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the campaign is designed to enhance students' understanding, particularly those under the age of 13, of responsible internet use and the functions of various online applications. This edition of KIS focused on the Siamese community, as SK Lamdin has a majority of students from the Thai ethnic group. The programme utilised the Teaching Session Plan (RSP) module for two age categories: Primary School Students aged 7–9 and those aged 10–12. SK Lamdin's Senior Administrative Assistant, Cikgu Amran Salleh, said the campaign effectively improved students' awareness about safe and responsible internet use, especially for children under 13 whose cognitive development is still maturing. 'A total of 10 facilitators from the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) in the Padang Terap Cluster were involved in conducting the module activities,' he said at the closing of the campaign, which was also attended by Kedah MCMC deputy director Sharliza Saary. Cikgu Amran said the campaign also addressed the dangers of unregulated internet usage while promoting more positive and productive alternatives for students. 'This initiative has successfully met its objectives by increasing students' understanding of digital literacy, age limits for social media use, the risks of cyberbullying, and safety practices when using the internet,' he said. Prior to that, it was discovered that 78 students at the school had active social media accounts. However, following the awareness sessions, nearly all of them agreed to refrain from using social media until they reach the age of 13.
