NIA arrests prison psychiatrist, city armed reserve policeman among 3 in Karnataka LeT prison radicalisation case
Searches were conducted at five locations in Bengaluru and Kolar districts of the state, leading to the arrest of Nagaraj, Psychiatrist in Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, Bengaluru; Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Chan Pasha, and Anees Fathima, mother of an absconding accused.
During the searches, the agency said that various digital devices, cash, gold and incriminating documents were seized from the houses of the arrested accused and other suspects.
As per the NIA, the case relates to the recovery of arms, ammunition, explosives and digital devices, including two walkie-talkies, from habitual offenders who were conspiring to unleash terror activities in Bengaluru city with the aim of furthering the nefarious agenda of the proscribed terrorist organization LeT.
As part of the conspiracy, NIA said that Nagaraj was smuggling mobile phones for use by prison inmates including Tadiyandaveed Naseer alias T Naseer, a life-time convict lodged in terror cases in Central Prison, Bengaluru. 'Nagaraj was supported by one Pavithra in this activity,' said the NIA.
Besides houses of Nagaraj and Pavithra, NIA also searched the house of Anees Fathima, mother of absconder Junaid Ahmed and involved in passing instructions from Naseer to her son for raising funds and handing over the same to T Naseer in prison.
NIA investigations revealed that ASI Chan Pasha had, in 2022, been involved in passing information related to T Naseer's escort from prison to various courts in exchange of money.
NIA has already chargesheeted nine accused, including absconder Junaid Ahmed, under various sections of Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Arms Act and Explosive Substances Act in the case. (ANI)

Demolition of Chhangur Baba's mansion in Balrampur continues on day 2
1 2 3 Lucknow: The Balrampur district administration continued the demolition of the lavish mansion linked to Chhangur Baba, the alleged mastermind of a religious conversion syndicate operating in Uttar Pradesh, for the second consecutive day on Wednesday. The structure, located in Madhpur village under Utraula police station, is registered in the name of his close associate Neetu Rohra alias Nasreen, who is also under investigation. According to revenue officials, nearly 75% of the illegally constructed building on govt land was razed. The remaining 25%, which includes key portions of the fortified premises, is scheduled to be demolished on Thursday. The operation involved the use of 10 bulldozers. The illegal construction findings led officials to demolish 1,500 square feet of unauthorized structure inside the nearly Rs 3 crore estate, located on the Utraula–Mankapur main road. The mansion, spread across three bighas, includes over 70 rooms and halls, with 40 rooms marked as illegal. A total of 2,041 square feet of the property was declared unauthorized by the administration. Of this, 1,500 square feet were already razed over two days—1,000 sq ft on Tuesday and 500 sq feet on Wednesday. The remaining portions, including part of the hall, main gate, and boundary wall, will be demolished on Thursday, according to Tehsildar Rajendra Bahadur. The team found a mini power station inside the property, high-end foreign-branded items in the bathrooms, and a tethered horse inside the premises. Six German Shepherd dogs were initially taken by villagers but returned after a police warning. The opulence inside the mansion was evident—luxurious tiles and imported marble, a 15x15 feet modern kitchen, plush sofas, imported furniture, 10 CCTV cameras, a 500-meter private driveway, and an electrified perimeter wall to prevent trespassing. Chhangur Baba was arrested by the ATS on July 5 from Lucknow, along with his female associate Neetu alias Nasreen, after being on the run. Nasreen, whose conversion Baba allegedly orchestrated, was the legal owner of the mansion. The ATS suspects the mansion served as the operational base for Baba's illegal religious conversion network, which targeted vulnerable individuals, particularly Hindu women. 37 years on, Nagas remember Oinam massacre during Operation Bluebird
1 2 3 4 5 6 Imphal: Nagas commemorated the 37th anniversary of the Operation Bluebird at the Maram Union Secretariat Complex in Tahamzan (Senapati), Manipur, on Wednesday. They marked the event as the dark day of July 9, 1987, when the Indian Army's counter-insurgency operation turned into what many regard as one of the worst cases of human rights violations in northeast. The event was organised by the Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) and hosted by the Paomei Naha Union (PNU) with attendance from key Naga organisations, including the United Naga Council (UNC), Naga Students' Federation (NSF), Naga Women Union (NWU), Naga Peoples Organisation (NPO), ANSAM and other apex Naga tribal bodies, and well-wishers from across Naga districts. Many speakers revisited the trauma of the incident, describing how in the early morning of July 9, 1987, Assam Rifles personnel descended upon Oinam village and over 30 surrounding villages, following the attack by the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN-IM) on an Assam Rifles outpost that resulted in the killing of nine soldiers and looting of arms. To recover the weapons, Operation Bluebird was unleashed and an unprecedented reign of terror followed. According to testimonies shared, 27 civilians were killed, three women raped, five sexually molested, two women forced to give birth in public view, 340 villagers were tortured, 96 arbitrarily arrested and detained for weeks, 125 houses burned, 172 dismantled, 10 churches desecrated and 6 schools destroyed. NPMHR secretary general Neingulo Krome described the operation as 'a calculated and systemic assault on the civilian population'. "This brutality gave birth to the NPMHR as a cry for justice and a stand for the dignity of the Naga people," Krome said and reminded the gathering that Operation Bluebird was not just an isolated military crackdown but a historical wound that continues to fester. The operation, carried out under the draconian provisions of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act ( AFSPA ), has since become a case study in extrajudicial killings, torture and impunity.

Girls Made To Strip For Menstruation Check In Maharashtra School, Case Filed: Cops
Thane: Police have registered a case against eight persons, including the principal and four teachers of a private school at Shahapur in Maharashtra's Thane district, after girls studying in Classes 5 to 10 were made to strip to check if they were menstruating, officials said. The incident occurred at the R S Damani school in the town on Tuesday after bloodstains were found in its toilet, they said. It sparked outrage among the parents of the girl students, who protested on the school premises on Wednesday and sought action against the management and teachers involved in the episode. As per the complaint lodged by a parent of one of students, the girls studying in Classes between 5 and 10 were called to the convention hall of the school and shown the photos of blood stains in the toilet and floor by screening them through a projector, and asked if anybody from them was going through the menstrual cycle. These girls were then divided into two groups. All those who said they were menstruating, were asked to give their thumb impression to the teachers. But those girls who said they were not experiencing it, were taken to the toilet one by one with a woman attendant checking their private parts, it said. Based on the complaint, a case was registered against the school principal, four teachers, the attendant and two trustees, the police said. Additional Superintendent of Police (Thane rural) Rahul Zalte said when the parents learnt about the girl students being subjected to this kind of a check, they gathered at the school and demanded action against the teachers involved. "The situation turned tense for a while with the irate parents demanding action," he said. The police are probing the entire incident, and the process of registering the offence against those found guilty is underway, he said. The case against the eight persons was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 74 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 76 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe) and also under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, he said. None of them has been arrested in this connection so far, senior inspector Mukesh Dhage of the Shahapur police station said.
