New research busts 6 AI myths: Artificial intelligence makes workers ‘more valuable, not less'

Despite widespread fears that artificial intelligence could automate jobs and cut employees' wages, AI actually makes people 'more valuable, not less', new research by professional services firm PwC has found.
'What causes people to react in this environment is the speed of the tech innovation,' PwC global chief AI officer Joe Atkinson said.
'The reality is that the tech innovation is moving really, really fast. It's moving at a pace that we've never seen in a tech innovation before.
'What the report suggests, actually, is AI is creating jobs.'
In fact, both jobs and wages are growing in 'virtually every' AI-exposed occupation — or jobs that have tasks where the technology can be used — including those that are the most automatable, such as customer service workers or software coders, according to the 2025 AI Jobs Barometer report.
'We know that every time we have an industrial revolution, there are more jobs created than lost. The challenge is that the skills workers need for the new jobs can be quite different,' said Carol Stubbings, PwC UK's global chief commercial officer, in the report.
'So the challenge, we believe, is not that there won't be jobs. It's that workers need to be prepared to take them.'
The report, which analysed more than 800 million job ads and thousands of company financial reports across six continents, challenged six common myths about AI's impact:
Myth:
AI has not yet had a significant impact on productivity.
However, the report found that since 2022, productivity growth in industries 'best positioned to adopt AI' has nearly quadrupled, while falling slightly in industries 'least exposed' to AI, such as physical therapy.
Notably, the industries that are the most exposed to AI, such as software publishing, showed three times higher growth in revenue per employee, according to PwC's data.
Myth:
AI can have a negative impact on workers' wages and bargaining power.
PwC's data showed that the wages of workers with AI skills are on average 56 per cent higher compared to workers without these skills in the same occupation, up from 25 per cent last year. In addition, wages are rising twice as fast in industries that are the most exposed to AI compared to the industries least exposed.
Myth:
AI may lead to a decrease in job numbers.
The report found that while occupations with lower exposure to AI saw strong job growth at 65 per cent between 2019 and 2024, growth remained robust — albeit slower — even in occupations more exposed to the technology (38 per cent).
Myth:
AI may exacerbate inequalities in opportunities and wages for workers.
Contrary to fears that AI will worsen inequality, the report findings show that wages and employment are rising for jobs that are augmentable and automatable by the technology.
The report noted that employer demand for formal degrees is declining faster in AI-exposed jobs, creating broader opportunities 'for millions'.
Myth:
AI may 'deskill' jobs that it automates.
The report found that instead, AI can enrich automatable jobs by freeing up employees from tedious tasks to practice more complex skills and decision-making. For example, data entry clerks can evolve into a 'higher value' role such as data analysts, according to PwC.
Myth:
AI may devalue jobs that it highly automates.
The data shows that not only are wages rising for jobs that are highly automatable, but the technology is also reshaping these jobs to become more 'complex and creative', and ultimately, make people more valuable.
The study offers another perspective: In a world where many countries have declining working-age populations, softening job growth in AI-exposed occupations could even 'be helpful' and benefit such countries.
The productivity boost by AI can actually create a 'multiplier effect' on the available workforce and satisfy the gaps that companies might not have been able to be fill otherwise, as well as growth for businesses, Mr Atkinson said.
'It's a prediction supported already by the productivity data we're seeing,' he added. 'I think it could absolutely and will be a good thing.'
Ultimately, the study takes the stance that AI should be treated 'as a growth strategy, not just an efficiency strategy'. Rather than using the technology to cut costs on headcount, companies should help their employees adapt and work together to create new opportunities, claim new markets and revenue streams.
'It is critical to avoid the trap of low ambition. Instead of limiting our focus to automating yesterday's jobs, let's create the new jobs and industries of the future,' the report said.
'AI, if used with imagination, could spark a flowering of new jobs and new business models. For example, two-thirds of jobs in the US today did not exist in 1940, and many of these new jobs were enabled by advances in technology,' the report added.

The Danish government is planning to tackle the issue of AI-generated deepfakes by granting citizens property rights over their likeness and voice. The proposed legislation would mean that people who find that their features have been used to create a deepfake would have the right to ask the platforms that host the content to take it down, Danish Culture Minister Jakob Engel-Schmidt told CNN on Friday. Engel-Schmidt believes that ' technology has outpaced legislation' and the proposed law would help to protect artists, public figures and ordinary people from digital identity theft, which he said is now possible with just a few clicks thanks to the power of generative AI. 'I think we should not accept a situation where human beings can be run through, if you would have it, a digital copy machine and misused for all sorts of purposes,' he said. He cited the example of musical artists who have discovered songs online purporting to be theirs, but which have in fact been made using AI clones of their voice. One such case involves Canadian singer Celine Dion, who in March warned fans about AI-generated content featuring her voice and likeness that was circulating online. And in April 2024, more than 200 artists, including Billie Eilish, Kacey Musgraves, J Balvin, Ja Rule, Jon Bon Jovi, the Jonas Brothers, Katy Perry and Miranda Lambert, signed an open letter speaking out against AI-related threats in the music industry. Engel-Schmidt says he has secured cross-party support for the bill, and he believes it will be passed this fall. Once the legislation is passed, Engel-Schmidt believes a second step would be to introduce more legislation that could impose fines on companies that do not comply with requests to remove content featuring an AI-generated deepfake. 'We are champions of freedom of speech, we would like everyone to be heard, but we also believe that human beings have the right to say yes and no to them being used by generative AI,' he said. As for whether he has discussed the proposed legislation with tech companies, Engel-Schmidt said: 'Not yet, but I'm looking forward to it.' 'I think it's in their interest as well to make AI work for humanity, not against, you know, artists, popular figures and ordinary people.' Athina Karatzogianni, a professor of technology and society at the University of Leicester, England, said the Danish proposal is one of hundreds of policy initiatives around the world looking to reduce the possible harms associated with the misuse of generative AI. 'Deepfakes can have both individual and social impact, because they can both harm individual rights and also (have) sociopolitical impacts, because they undermine the values that are fundamental to a democracy, such as equality and transparency,' Karatzogianni said.

Singular signs top US radiologist to pick up imaging rollout pace

Western Australian medical technology innovator Singular Health Group has strengthened its push into the lucrative United States healthcare market with the appointment of a seasoned radiologist with more than two decades' experience as its US radiology advisor. In a move aimed squarely at cementing clinical credibility and accelerating commercialisation, Dr Alex Alonso will also set up Singular's flagship 3DICOM radiology platform at his own diagnostic centre, Life Radiology FL, in Doral, Florida. The appointment follows Singular's binding enterprise agreement with Provider Network Solutions (PNS), a leading US-based managed service organisation which manages more than 3.7 million patient plans across Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico. Chong described the appointment as a 'big win', noting his first-hand understanding of US imaging workflows and duplication challenges. Alonso said the technology could solve everyday challenges for radiologists and patients. 'I see a real pathway to nationwide rollout in the US as we move towards connected, patient-focused care, ' he said. Life Radiology will integrate 3DICOM features such as interoperability between digital patient filing systems, secure image sharing and patient access portals to streamline diagnostic workflows and reduce unnecessary repeat imaging, which remains a significant cost burden on the US healthcare system. Alonso's consulting fees will be settled through the issue of fully paid ordinary Singular shares worth US$27,000 at the end of his six-month engagement, directly aligning his interests with the company's shareholders. Today's appointment builds on a string of strategic milestones for Singular. Two weeks ago, the company inked a US$1.3 million (A$2 million) contract with PNS to roll out an initial 1000 3DICOM MD licences to doctors across Puerto Rico, Florida and Texas. The contract includes a US$500,000 commitment to develop AI imaging models and a centralised image repository, key steps towards the company's plan to address the endemic problem of duplicate imaging in the US. Industry studies estimate unnecessary imaging costs US healthcare up to US$30 billion annually. The scale of Singular's opportunity is underscored by independent research commissioned from Signify Research, estimating a total addressable market of US$19 billion annually for 3DICOM licences among 1.3 million US primary care doctors. To support its ambitious US rollout, Singular Health raised $8 million through a placement of 22.4 million shares at 35 cents each, completed just last week. The raise attracted strong institutional support and saw strategic backers, including PNS, reinforce their confidence in Singular's vision by participating in the placement. The fresh cash leaves the company fully funded for the planned national deployment of 3DICOM and further product development. Quarterly reports further reveal the company's solid operational and financial footing, with more than $5.3 million cash at bank as of the end of March. Recent achievements include the completion of the 3DICOM Gateway, a real-time browser-based tool enabling seamless sharing and access to imaging records, and the appointment of Australian radiologist Dr Ronny Low as technical advisor for the US pilot. Looking ahead, Singular Health is preparing for its first large-scale national rollout across PNS's partner networks, supported by its strategic joint venture between PNS and the Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company (HOPCo), a group operating across more than 30 US states. Singular Health's 3DICOM software, which has US Food and Drug Administration registration for diagnostic use in the US, enables advanced 3D visualisation of medical images, empowering practitioners and patients with clearer insights into imaging data. The company's broader suite of technologies, including its volumetric rendering platform and medical file transfer protocol, aims to eliminate medical imaging silos and reduce costs, patient discomfort and delays in care. As Singular Health sets its sights firmly on transforming the US medical imaging landscape, today's appointment of Alonso represents a clinical endorsement and a significant leap forward in its mission to make healthcare imaging smarter, faster and more accessible across America.
