Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government is expanding its care infrastructure for the elderly and persons with disabilities (PWD), with several new facilities planned in Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu and Telupid. Community Development and People's Wellbeing Minister Datuk James Ratib said the Ministry, through the Sabah Welfare Services Department (JPKA), has outlined key developments to improve daily care services in major urban centres, including Sandakan and the State Capital. 'In Sandakan, the projects include the construction of a new OKU Training Complex, a new building for the OKU Children's Educational Centre, and comprehensive repairs to the Sri Harapan Old Folks Home,' he said in response to a question from Elopura assemblyman Calvin Chong during the question-and-answer session at the State Legislative Assembly on Monday. He added that in Kota Kinabalu, a new Integrated PWD and Elderly Complex will be built in Inanam to provide paid daily care services for up to 50 residents, vocational training and job opportunities for PWDs, and psychosocial support for senior citizens. James added that a model 'Self-Sustaining Elderly Home' is being built in Telupid to house elderly individuals without next-of-kin, free of charge, with the intention to replicate this concept in cities such as Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu in the future. In a supplementary response to Chong, he said the Government is planning to add a new ward at the Sri Harapan home in Sandakan at a cost of RM2.5 million, which will allow an additional 20 elderly residents and improve existing care for the current 56 occupants. Six families allowed to resettle on two-acre settlement

Kota Kinabalu: Six families from Kampung Nelayan 1 in Likas who lost their homes will be allowed to resettle on a two-acre site that has been gazetted for village housing purposes, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. He clarified that the land, identified as CL.015669799, belongs to MLGH (Sabah) Sdn Bhd and not Rimdaya Sdn Bhd, as previously assumed. 'A land acquisition declaration under Section 3 of the Land Acquisition Ordinance (Cap 69) was published in the Government Gazette (G.N.210/2025) on June 5 this year and repeated on June 12 this year,' he told the State Legislative Assembly on Monday, in response to a question from Darau Assemblyman Azhar Matussin. Hajiji said a letter granting entry to Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) to take over the site for resettlement purposes, as well as a compensation offer to MLGH (Sabah) Sdn Bhd, was issued on June 30 this year. 'This means the six families can be relocated to part of the two-acre area designated for settlement, and DBKK will prepare the site layout plan,' he said. When asked in a supplementary question by Azhar about when residents could begin rebuilding, Hajiji replied that it was up to DBKK and the villagers themselves. Buddhist association donates supplies, education aid worth RM150,000
Beneficiaries who received the aid from the association at the event. NEEDY students and charitable groups in Klang received essential supplies and education aid worth RM150,000 from the Malaysia True Buddha School Federal Vajrayana Buddhism Association (FVBA). The donation was made to celebrate the 81st birthday of its founder Living Buddha Lian-sheng also known as Lu Sheng-yen. In his speech, FVBA president Master Lian Tai said the sum had been raised with the generous support of numerous True Buddha School disciples and benefactors. The funds were used to assist underprivileged students and to buy essential supplies for charitable organisations and educational institutions nationwide. Beneficiaries included Persatuan Bantuan Bencana Alam MISAR Malaysia, Kelab Belia Sinar Cahaya Kampung Ampang Campuran, School of Languages, Civilisation and Philosophy, Universiti Utara Malaysia, Kelab Barakah SLCP, Program Kongsi Rezeki SLCP and Persatuan Kebajikan Bakul Makanan Klang, Selangor. FVBA continued its annual tradition by individually awarding RM5,000 bursaries to several educational institutions, including SJK (C) Hin Hua, SJK (C) Pandamaran School A and SJK (C) Pandamaran School B, all in Klang, Selangor as well as SJK (C) Man Ming, SJK (C) Lawan Kuda Baru and SJK (C) New Kopisan, all in Gopeng, Perak. This year, an additional RM5,000 was specially allocated to support five charitable organisations in the Klang Valley namely Padmasambhava Children Loving Association Klang, Pertubuhan Rumah Anak Yatim Berkat Kasih and the Association of Klang and Coast Chik Sin Thong Old Folks Home Selangor. FVBA also disbursed RM10,000 from the Lian Sheng Education Fund to the Department of Chinese Studies at Universiti Malaya as funding for the publication of the Journal of Sinological Studies.
