"You Don't Know Me?" RJD MLA vs 'Sachiv' In ' Panchayat '-Style Face-Off
In a scene that may well be straight out of the 'Panchayat' web series, a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA in Bihar engaged in a face-off with a local secretary on a phone call. An audio clip of the confrontation involving the RJD legislator, Bhai Virendra, and the 'sachiv' has gone viral on social media.
The row began when Bhai Virendra called the village secretary of his constituency to ask about the status of a death certificate. The 'sachiv' did not recognise the RJD MLA and asked him for his name. To this, the legislator snapped, "You don't know Bhai Virendra? You don't know Bhai Virendra of Maner? You want me to introduce myself?"
The official responded: "I will recognise you when you introduce yourself".
Bhai Virendra sarcastically asked the secretary whether he was from England. "Are you from England? You don't know the MLA of Maner? The entire country knows me," he said.
"Yes, MLA ji, please speak," the 'sachiv' responded.
Angered by the response, the RJD MLA threatened to hit the government official to hit him with a shoe.
"Yes MLA ji, speak? Joote se maarenge tumko (I will hit you with my shoes). Record this and do what you want. The country knows me, and you're saying you don't know who Bhai Virendra is. You should have greeted me on the call," he said.
Bhai Virendra then told him that an application had been sent for a death certificate for Avinash Kumar, the husband of one Rinki Devi.
"Get it made. The application was sent long ago. Don't work poorly. You are an employee, work like an employee," he told the village secretary.
The face-off escalated after the village secretary told the RJD MLA that he would not be bullied by him.
"If you talk to me nicely, then I will talk to you nicely. Do whatever you want, I am not afraid of you. If you speak rudely, I will speak rudely. No one is going to be afraid here," he said.
This response made the MLA even more furious; he raged that the village secretary had no right to work if he did not know the local legislator.
"Get me transferred," the 'sachiv' challenged.
"Transfer? This won't stop at transfer. That is a very small thing. Where are you even from?" Bhai Virendra asked.
To this, the village secretary asked the RJD MLA not to threaten him.
"Talk to me about work. Your request has been processed. You will know when it is done," he said before cutting the call.

Not one claim from booth level agents of parties in 24 hours of poll roll publication
NEW DELHI: Not a single claim or objection was filed within the first 24 hours of publication of the draft electoral roll in Bihar, by any of the 1.6 lakh booth level agents (BLAs) deployed by a dozen political parties across the state's 90,712 booths. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now However, EC said 3,223 applications were received between 3pm on Aug 1 and 3pm on Aug 2, for fresh enrolment of electors turning 18 years on the cutoff dates July 1 and Oct 1, 2025. All have submitted their Form 6 with the mandatory declaration. As reported by TOI, EC, in an exercise aimed at 100% transparency, put out the first of its daily reports Saturday on the partywise claims and objections received from BLAs and resolved by the electoral registration officer or assistant ERO. As per rules, claims and objections are to be disposed of after the expiry of seven days. The update shared by the poll panel lists 'zero' claims and objections filed between 3pm on Aug 1 and 3pm on Aug 2, by the BLAs appointed by RJD, Congress, CPM, AAP, BSP, National People's Party, BJP, JD(U), CPI (ML) (Liberation), LJP (Ram Vilas), Rashtriya LJP and Rashtriya Lok Samta Party. The district election officers of all of Bihar's 38 districts had Friday shared the draft electoral roll for all 90,712 polling booths with the political parties. It also provided them the list of electors who were there in the roll as on June 24, 2025, but are not in the draft electoral roll published Friday. The absence of any claim or objection from RJD, which has 47,506 BLAs in the field, is interesting given that Saturday started with party chief claiming his name was not in the roll. This, despite all BLAs having agreed to go through the boothwise draft lists given to them on August 1, carefully," said the commission. EC is meanwhile issuing advertisements in print, TV and social media to create awareness among the electors of Bihar regarding the option of filing claims and objections. It will also set up special camps in all block-cum-office circles and urban local body offices, from 10am to 5pm on all days till Sept 1. Any elector of Bihar can check his name in the draft electoral roll by filling his EPIC number directly on the EC voters' portal and can also file claims and objections.

EC sources say inquiries on to verify authenticity of Tejashwi's second voter card; suspect forgery
NEW DELHI: The Election Commission on Saturday dubbed as "baseless" claims of RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav that his name was missing from the draft electoral rolls of Bihar as poll body sources said inquiries were on to understand the "reality" behind the second voter card. To prove that his name was not on the draft rolls, Yadav had entered a voter identity card number, which showed no records. While asserting that his name figures in the draft at serial number 416, officials said even if he still had any grievance, he should have followed the legal procedure laid down. Meanwhile, the EC sources said that the RJD leader used the electoral roll with EPIC no. RAB0456228 for filling his nomination papers on affidavit in 2020. "He was having this voter ID card number even in the electoral roll in 2015. His name with this voter card number exists in the draft electoral rolls too," an official pointed out. The other voter card with the number -- RAB2916120 -- has been found to be non-existent, and records from the last more than 10 years have been checked, the sources said. They said no records have been found for the second card number "yet". "It is highly likely that the second card was never made through an official channel. Further inquiries are on to understand the reality of the second voter card number... whether it is a forged document," the official cited above said. Yadav on Saturday claimed his name was missing in the draft electoral rolls published by the EC as part of the special intensive revision in Bihar, ahead of the assembly polls.
