Bangladeshi nabbed for selling fake e-work permits
The 30-year-old suspect had been operating for the past six months from a carpet shop in Jalan Tun Tan Siew Sin, Kuala Lumpur.
It came to an end when a team of Immigration officers raided the shop at about 9.30am on Tuesday, Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban revealed yesterday.
He said the suspect had been charging RM50 for each fake e-PLKS slip.
'We believe the suspect also forged other documents and business letters. We seized various foreign passports and fake e-PLKS slips from the shop,' he told a press conference at the department headquarters here.
Zakaria said the suspect's customers were foreign workers who had issues with their e-PLKS applications.
'He took advantage of their situation by conning them as the fake e-PLKS slips would not pass inspection by Immigration officers.
'We have a specific device to scan the QR code on the slips. QR codes on fake e-PLKS are not usable and won't pass inspections,' he added.
The suspect charged each worker only RM50 as the cost to produce the fake e-documents was not expensive, he said.
'He only needed A4 paper, a computer and a printer. It is much cheaper compared to producing fake e-PLKS stickers,' he said.
In another case, three Indian nationals were detained for being bogus foreign worker agents, Zakaria said.
He said the trio, aged between 39 and 64, were detained in Jalan Masjid India.
'They had many foreign passports in their possession,' he added.
Zakaria said Immigration officers seized various items, including 504 foreign passports, four PCs, four printers, several fake e-PLKS slips, 40 i-Kads and RM94,322.
'Initial investigations revealed that syndicates attracted customers based on word of mouth. They avoided using social media to evade the authorities,' he said.
Zakaria said he did not rule out the possibility that some employers conspired to get the services of the syndicates based on the huge number of foreign passports seized.
He said the investigation was being conducted under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Passport Act 1966.

Four-year-old boy falls to death from 8th-storey window in Klang
KLANG: A four-year-old boy died after he fell out of an eight-floor flat unit on Friday (Aug 1) morning. According to South Klang deputy OCPD Supt Kamalariffin Aman Shah said the incident occurred at the Port Klang Perantau Flats' Block J. "At the time of the incident, the boy's father was at his workplace, and the mother was out of the house sending her second child to the babysitters. "The victim is believed to have fallen out of a window of his home on the eighth floor," said Supt Kamalariffin. He added that police received a distress call reporting the incident from a woman at 8am. According to Supt Kamalariffin, the victim was rushed to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital here for emergency treatment and pronounced dead during treatment. He said the post-mortem results indicated that the victim had suffered head injuries as a result of falling from a height. He also added that police opened an investigation under Section 31 (1) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect, which comes with a jail term of not more than 20 years and a fine not exceeding RM50,000. "The police are urging members of the public, with other information pertaining to this incident, to go to the nearest police station or contact the South Klang police at 03-33762222 to help with the investigations," he said.

Boy, 4, dies after fall from 8th floor flat
KUALA LUMPUR: A 4-year-old boy who fell from the 8th floor of the Sri Perantau Flats in Port Klang this morning has died from injuries sustained in the fall. South Klang deputy police chief Superintendent Kamal Ariffin Aman Shah, who confirmed the death, said police received a call around 8am from a member of the public reporting that a child had fallen from a building in the area. "At the time of the incident, the boy's father was at work, while the mother had stepped out to send their second child to the babysitter. "It is believed the victim fell from the window of their 8th floor flat," he said in a statement today. Kamal Ariffin added that the victim was rushed to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead during treatment at 9am. "A post-mortem revealed that the child sustained head injuries consistent with a fall from height. "The South Klang police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department has opened an investigation paper under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to RM50,000. "We ask anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the South Klang Police Headquarters at 03-33762222 to assist in the investigation," the statement read. Earlier, a video of the incident went viral on social media, showing chaos at the scene as residents gathered around the area. In the footage, a man can be heard sharing brief details about what had happened.
