LA Dodgers at Cincinnati Reds odds, picks and predictions
Season series: First meeting; Cincinnati took 4 of 7 games in 2024
Los Angeles is continuing a road trip that opened with the Dodgers losing 2 of 3 games at the Boston Red Sox over the weekend. Despite having the overall best record in the NL West, LA is just 3-6 in 9 games since the All-Star break.
The Reds swept the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend. Cincinnati has outscored foes 20-5 in winning each of its last 4 games, and the Reds are 8-3 since July 12. The sweep of the Rays opened a 9-game homsetand at Great American Ball Park; Cincy is 7-1 over its last 8 games at home.
Dodgers at Reds projected starters
RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto vs. RHP Chase Burns
Yamamoto (8-7, 2.55 ERA) is making his 21st start. He has a 1.05 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9 and 10.2 K/9 through 109 1/3 innings.
Burns (0-2, 6.65 ERA) is making his sixth career start. He owns a 1.62 WHIP, 4.6 BB/9 and 14.5 K/9 through 21 2/3 innings.

Dodgers at Reds picks and predictions
Reds 4, Dodgers 3
Moneyline
The Reds swept the Dodgers at Great American last season and are 5-1 across their last half-dozen home games against LA.
Cincinnati has been the sharper club of late, and Burns is a hot prospect off to a slower-than-deserved start to his Major League career.
Yamamoto is a high-level starter, but is likely overrated by bettors due to a .258 batting average on balls in play. In inning lead-off situations, that BABIP has been .234; with runners in scoring position, it has been .235. Those are some fortunate figures tamping down the sophomore righty's ERA. And Yamamoto is backed by what has been a faltering bullpen of late.
Burns, a 2024 first-round draft choice who filed a 1.49 ERA at Double- and Triple-A this season, has been undone by a .400 BABIP.
The REDS (+125) are the value side in this series opener.
Run line/Against the spread
No interest: PASS.
Over/Under
The Under is 4-1 in the last 5 series meetings.
The Dodger offense has been hurt with some low-BABIP output of late. The back end of the LA bullpen is in good shape for what likely sets up as a solid starter matchup in the early innings.
BACK THE UNDER 9 (-105).

Luka Doncic agrees to a three-year $165 million contract extension through 2028 with the LA Lakers
Luka Doncic has agreed to a three-year, $165 million maximum contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers, bypassing a chance at free agency next summer to build a long-term future with his new team. The deal keeps Doncic with Los Angeles through 2028. The Slovenian superstar had a player option for the 2026-27 season under his previous contract. A person with knowledge of the deal confirmed the terms to The Associated Press on Saturday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Lakers don't publicly announce the details of contracts. "Excited to keep working to bring championships to LA and make Laker Nation proud," Doncic wrote on social media. "Grateful to the Lakers, my teammates and all the fans who've shown so much love since day one. This is just the beginning." The Lakers acquired Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks last February in a seismic trade for Anthony Davis. The five-time All-NBA selection and a five-time All-Star averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 assists and 7.7 rebounds per game last season while teaming up with LeBron James for 50 victories and the No. 3 seed in the Western Conference playoffs. Los Angeles lost to Minnesota in the first round, but Doncic enjoyed his first months in Hollywood enough to commit to the Lakers. He will return this fall alongside James, who will begin his unprecedented 23rd NBA season. Doncic's growing comfort with the Lakers was already obvious in his offseason activity. He played a significant role in Los Angeles' successful bids to sign Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart, persuading the two veterans to team up for the upcoming season. Doncic's extensive regimen of offseason conditioning work has also been well-documented after the Mavericks' questions about his physical commitment to the sport reportedly played a role in his shocking departure from Dallas.
