Winnipeg fire-paramedic crew member attacked with pole while responding to vehicle fire
At around 1:20 a.m., a Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crew was called to the 300 block of Princess Street, between Logan and Higgins avenues, with a report of a pickup truck on fire.
When they reached the intersection of Logan and Princess, a man armed with a metal pole began hitting the fire engine as it passed, damaging it, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Saturday morning.
The crew parked the fire engine and one of its members got out. Police said he was confronted by the man, who struck the crew member with the pole. The crew member suffered minor injuries.
Police were contacted and a 25-year-old man was arrested on the scene.
During their investigation, officers said they learned the man was allegedly involved in the vehicle fire.
He faces several charges, including assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, arson causing damage to property, mischief under $5,000 and failure to comply with a release order.
He remains in custody.

Woman taken to hospital after flat fire rescue
A woman was taken to hospital after being rescued from a flat fire in Nottinghamshire Emergency crews were called to Union Street in Beeston at 15:14 BST on Saturday where a flat was "well alight", Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service said.
