Meghalaya honeymoon murder: Sonam Raghuvanshi's brother Govind's MAJOR claim — ‘I'm 100% sure she has…'
Earlier today, police disclosed that Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime conspirator in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, had insisted on proceeding with the killing despite others withdrawing their support. This determination reportedly played a crucial role in the tragic event.
Authorities have since arrested Sonam's alleged boyfriend, Raj Kushwaha, along with three contract killers—Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput, and Anand Kurmi—in connection with the case. Sonam herself was taken into custody in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, and is currently held at Shillong Sadar Police Station in Meghalaya.
Sonam Raghuvanshi's brother Govind visited his sister's in-law's household on Wednesday.
At the residence Govind and Raja Raghuvanshi's brother Vipin held a joint press conference. There Govind said, 'According to the evidence found so far, I am 100% sure that she has committed this murder. All the accused in this case are related to Raj Kushwaha. I apologise to Raja's family.'
Govind also informed that their family had broken ties with murder accused Sonam Raghuvanshi.
'I don't have an idea if she (Sonam) has confessed to the crime, but I am saying that she has done it. I am with Raja... I will boycott Sonam.' Govind said.
"Our parents have also accepted it. They were not aware of the details earlier today. I was in flight. Not only my family but the entire society will boycott her (Sonam). I have apologised to the (Raja's) family. I will always stand with them." he added.
Earlier on June 6, Govind had sought a CBI probe into the missing Indore couple's case, and asked Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma to treat it as a case of abduction, and not look for her dead body.
Vipin Raghuvanshi, brother of Raja Raghuvanshi, revealed that Govind, Sonam Raghuvanshi's brother, had been in contact with him. He explained that Govind had informed him of his intention to visit his house to make a confession.
Govind wanted to admit that his sister had committed a grave mistake and expressed that she deserved the death penalty for her actions.
Raj Singh Kushwaha's mother has vehemently claimed that her son is being 'trapped' in the murder case and insisted that he 'could never do something like this.' The 21-year-old, who is alleged to be Sonam Raghuvanshi's boyfriend, was arrested by police for his purported involvement in conspiring to kill Raja Raghuvanshi in May.
'My son is not like that; he can never do something like this. He is very young and used to taking care of his three sisters after his father passed away. He started working at Govind's (brother of Sonam Raghuvanshi) office. My husband passed away in 2020. After that, Raj has taken care of our family,' Kushwaha's mother was quoted as saying by ANI.
According to the Meghalaya Police, Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi's wife Sonam (25) was allegedly involved in the conspiracy to murder him with her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha (20). The duo had hired three killers to execute the plan.
Raja Raghuvanshi (29) and his wife Sonam got married here on May 11. They went missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 23.
Raghuvanshi's body was found in a deep gorge near a waterfall in Sohra area (also known as Cherrapunji) of East Khasi Hills district on June 2.
Sonam and her aides were arrested from Indore in Madhya Pradesh and Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh recently for their alleged role in conspiring and killing Raghuvanshi.

The AAP on Sunday slammed the BJP for allegedly framing its leaders in false cases and questioned who would compensate the families for the emotional distress caused by the serious corruption allegations. In a post on X in Hindi, former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal asserted that all cases filed against his party leaders are "false". "With time, the truth will come out in all these cases. False cases were filed against us, and we were sent to jail. Shouldn't those who filed these false cases, and those leaders who ordered these false cases, be sent to jail? We were smeared with mud day and night, our families had to endure so much pain — what about compensating for all that?" the AAP supremo said on X. While accepting the CBI's closure report, Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh said the investigating agency has not found any incriminating evidence over such a long period, and further proceedings would serve no useful purpose. Dehradun: Uttarakhand high court, reviewing cases of the 1994 Rampur Tiraha firing incident related to the Uttarakhand statehood movement, sought UP govt's response on the status of six registered cases "within a fortnight", and accordingly set the subsequent hearing date. Notably, the petitioner highlighted that these cases "saw no progress in over three decades". On the night of Oct 2, 1994, several activists travelling to Delhi to advocate for separate statehood encountered severe police action, with allegations of 24 women sexually abused by the cops, at Rampur Tiraha in Muzaffarnagar. There were seven fatalities. State activists' counsel, advocate Raman Shah, noted that seven women were raped while 17 faced harassment. Mulayam Singh Yadav was the CM at that time. On Monday, the HC bench of Justice Pankaj Purohit sought progress details of the cases from the current UP govt. "Initially, 13 cases were registered in that incident. Notably, following a letter from the district judge to the HC registrar general, these six cases were moved to the Muzaffarnagar court, but they remained unheard. This led to a request for swift proceedings. The primary accused — former Muzaffarnagar DM Anant Kumar Singh, along with seven others — had their cases transferred by the CBI (Dehradun) to the Muzaffarnagar court, Shah added. A CBI investigation was court-mandated. Ex-DM Kumar escaped prosecution due to pending gubernatorial permission, he said. The CBI then registered cases involving charges of murder, usage of lethal weapons and grievous injuries from firing. In cases registered in Muzaffarnagar, the local district court had last year sentenced two PAC constables to life terms after finding them guilty under IPC sections 354, 376 (2) (g), 392 and 509.

Trump says he will ‘substantially' raise tariffs on India over Russian oil purchases
United States President Donald Trump on Monday said that Washington will substantially increase the tariffs imposed on goods imported from India over New Delhi's purchase and sale of Russian oil in the 'open market for big profit'. 'India is not only buying massive amounts of Russian oil, they are then, for much of the oil purchased, selling it on the open market for big profits,' Trump said on social media. He said: 'They don't care how many people in Ukraine are being killed by the Russian war machine. Because of this, I will be substantially raising the tariff paid by India to the USA.' Trump has been threatening to impose a so-called penalty on New Delhi for buying a large portion of its military equipment and fuel from Russia amid the war on Ukraine. The penalty would be in addition to the 25% levy Washington announced on goods imported from India, as part of the so-called reciprocal tariffs on dozens of countries that have not finalised separate trade agreements with the US. The US president's comment on Monday came after Trump on Friday said that he had heard that India was ' no longer going to be buying oil' from Russia. 'I don't know if that's right or not, but that's a good step,' ANI had quoted Trump as saying. 'We will see what happens.' On Thursday, Reuters had reported that Indian state-owned refiners had halted oil purchases from Russia over the previous week. However, on Saturday, ANI quoted unidentified Indian officials as saying that the state-owned refiners are continuing to source oil from Russian suppliers. The US president's remarks on Friday had also come just hours after India's Ministry of External Affairs responded to the Reuters report, stating that decisions on sourcing fuel are guided by market dynamics. Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had said that India and Russia share a 'steady, time-tested ' partnership. 'Our ties with any country stand on their merit and should not be seen from the prism of a third country,' Jaiswal had said. New Delhi's clarification came two days after Trump on Wednesday threatened to impose the ' penalty ' on India for military and energy purchases from Russia. While the 25% reciprocal tariff was to take effect on August 7, the executive order signed by Trump on Thursday had made no mention of the 'penalty'. On Thursday, Trump said that he does not care about 'what India does with Russia' and that 'they can take their dead economies down together, for all I care'. 'We have done very little business with India, their tariffs are too high, among the highest in the world,' Trump had said on social media. 'Likewise, Russia and the USA do almost no business together.'
