Fahmi uses RON95 price cut to take a swipe at July 26 ‘Turun' rally
He also said the assistance and incentives show that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his administration are serious about delivering relief where it matters most.
'Harga minyak turun, Anwar tak turun, tapi Harga RON95 turun,' Fahmi quipped during a media interview, which translates to, 'Anwar is not going down, but the price of RON95 is'.
His remark was an apparent jab at the #TurunAnwar rally the Perikatan Nasional opposition is organising this weekend.
Earlier today, Anwar announced a one-off cash aid of RM100 for all Malaysians aged 18 and above, as well as the lowering of the RON95 petrol price from RM2.05 to RM1.99 per litre once the fuel subsidy rationalisation is implemented later this year.
Fahmi noted that the expanded cash aid under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme would cost the government RM2 billion and benefit 22 million Malaysians.
'Today's announcements are proof that we are not just listening, but acting on the people's concerns,' he said.
Fahmi added that the government has managed to strengthen the economy while maintaining low unemployment and attracting steady investment, despite global uncertainties.
He said the public could expect more announcements in the coming months, including the tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan on July 31 and Budget 2026 in October, where deeper and more inclusive reforms will be unveiled.

PUTRAJAYA: All ministries, agencies and government offices are required to play the National Day and Malaysia Day (HKHM) 2025 theme song 'Malaysia MADANI Rakyat Disantuni'. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the move is part of efforts to ignite the spirit of the National Month. Fahmi, the spokesperson for the MADANI Government, said the song, composed by Datuk Mokhzani Ismail, arranged by young composer Affan Mazlan and performed by national songstress Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza, is very catchy, melodious and pleasant to listen to. 'I feel this year's theme song is truly magical and extraordinary. The song has also caught the attention and praise of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim himself, who said it was 'really, really good',' he said during the Communications Ministry's monthly assembly here today. The HKHM 2025 theme song was officially introduced for the first time at the National Month Launch and Jalur Gemilang Flag-Raising Ceremony 2025 held at Dataran Tanjung Emas in Muar, Johor last Sunday. Fahmi said the Communications Ministry's focus at the moment is to ensure that all aspects of preparation for the HKHM celebrations run smoothly, including field activities, security, broadcasting and official performances. He also called on ministry staff and its agencies to enliven the National Month spirit by playing an effective communication role. On preparations for the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations, Fahmi said the Communications Ministry is currently addressing connectivity issues, as well as safety and traffic control aspects at the celebration venues. Cabinet to decide Malaysia's stance on calling Hamas to disarm in Gaza, says Fahmi
KUALA LUMPUR: The Cabinet would discuss Malaysia's stand if it should join in the global call for Hamas to disarm and hand Gaza over to the Palestinian Authority, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. The Communications Minister and government spokesperson also said that all geopolitical decisions of Malaysia would be decided at Cabinet meetings, and the issue on Gaza would most likely be discussed at the next Cabinet meeting to be held on Friday (Aug 1). Fahmi said this to the media after launching the International Connectivity Conference and Expo 2025 co-organised by telecommunications provider GSATT and Madani Research Centre here on Wednesday (July 30). He was asked if Malaysia would join more than 17 other countries in asking Hamas to disarm and give up governing Gaza as part of the United Nations' efforts for a peace truce between Palestine and Israel. "We will discuss this in the next Cabinet meeting. Probably, we will make a decision on this after we (Cabinet) meet on Friday. This is because Wisma Putra (Foreign Ministry) would have to brief us on the geopolitical issues (before we take a stand)," said Fahmi. On July 29, Arab countries including Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Egypt joined calls for Hamas to disarm and end its rule of Gaza, in a bid to end the devastating war in the Palestinian territory. Seventeen countries, plus the European Union and Arab League, threw their weight behind a seven-page text agreed at a United Nations conference on reviving the two-state solution for Israel and the Palestinians. 'In the context of ending the war in Gaza, Hamas must end its rule in Gaza and hand over its weapons to the Palestinian Authority, with international engagement and support, in line with the objective of a sovereign and independent Palestinian State,' said the declaration. It followed a call on Monday by the Palestinian delegation at the United Nations for both Israel and Hamas to leave Gaza, allowing the Palestinian Authority to administer the coastal territory. The text also condemned the deadly Oct 7, 2023 attacks by Hamas against Israel, something the UN General Assembly has yet to do. France, which co-chaired the conference with Saudi Arabia, called the declaration 'both historic and unprecedented.' 'For the first time, Arab countries and those in the Middle East condemn Hamas, condemn Oct 7, call for the disarmament of Hamas, call for its exclusion from Palestinian governance, and clearly express their intention to normalise relations with Israel in the future,' said French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot. The text, co-signed by France, Britain and Canada among other western nations, also called for the possible deployment of foreign forces to stabilise Gaza after the end of hostilities.

PM: Asean must remain united, principled to address regional, global challenges
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has emphasised the need for Asean to remain united, principled, and focused on dialogue in addressing both regional and global challenges. He said this matter was discussed during a phone conversation with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. after his return from Jakarta, Indonesia, last night. "We talked about recent developments in the region, including his visit to the United States, and Asean's crucial role in strengthening regional cooperation," he said in a social media post. Anwar also noted the positive progress in the ongoing peace efforts between Cambodia and Thailand, despite some challenges. "Malaysia appreciates the constructive contributions from major powers like China and the United States, as well as Asean partners, in supporting these peace talks," he added. On Monday, Anwar announced that Thailand and Cambodia had agreed to an immediate and unconditional ceasefire to ease tensions along their disputed border. This was the outcome of a special meeting he chaired in Putrajaya. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai attended the meeting, along with United States (US) Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard Kagan and Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing. The US co-hosted the meeting, with China participating as an observer to support a peaceful resolution to the situation. The two neighbouring Southeast Asian countries have a long-standing dispute over their 817-kilometre border, which remains partially unmarked. Tensions flared on May 28 when clashes between Thai and Cambodian soldiers near the Preah Vihear border resulted in the death of a Cambodian soldier.
