Govt reconstitutes border experts group with Sena MP Mane its head

Time of India3 days ago
Kolhapur: State govt has reappointed the Shiv Sena MP from Hatkanangle, Dhairyasheel Mane, as the head of the experts committee on the Maharashtra-Karnataka border dispute. Kolhapur's Rajya Sabha member Dhananjay Mahadik has been made co-chairman of the experts group, which has the task of assisting govt in presenting the border dispute case strongly in the
Supreme Court
.
Mane's appointment has been made against the suggestion of the Madhyavarti Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti of Belagavi that sought NCP (SP) state chief Jayant Patil be made the committee's chairman, considering his long-standing association with Marathi activists advocating for the inclusion of Marathi-speaking areas from Karnataka into Maharashtra.
Last week, Marathi activists gathered at Belagavi and passed a resolution recommending the appointment of Patil as head of the committee.
They even wrote a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis in this regard, and also met NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar during his recent Kolhapur visit. Pawar had assured them that he would put in a word with the CM.
"Our recommendation has not been accepted. We think party politics has crept into the issue, which is very sensitive since we, as Marathis, are going through hardships and generations have passed fighting for the inclusion of Maharashtra after the states were formed on a linguistic basis," a senior office-bearer of the Samiti said.
Earlier, Mane was made the head of the expert committee after Eknath Shinde became the chief minister in 2022. The panel has a total of nine members, including the principal secretary of the law department.

Priyanka Chaturvedi hits back at Nishikant Dubey for slamming Raj Thackeray amid Hindi-Marathi row: ‘Who made him…'

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi on Monday responded to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nishikant Dubey's comments against MNS chief Raj Thackeray amid the Hindi vs Marathi row. Chaturvedi, the Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, wondered if Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis agreed with the party leader's 'disparaging' comments about the hard-working people of the state. 'Who made him the gatekeeper of Hindi? Who made him the tax keeper of India? Who made him the spokesperson of industrialists? Who made him the decision maker of what other party leaders should be doing?' Chaturvedi asked in a post on X, quoting Dubey's comments. Dubey said: 'Those who beat Hindi-speaking people in Mumbai, if you have the guts, try beating Urdu-speaking people in Maharashtra. Even a dog becomes a lion in its own house, right? Decide for yourself who is the dog and who is the lion.' In her response, Chauturvedi asked, 'Does Devendra Fadnavisji agree with their party MP's language with regards to people of Maharashtra and his disparaging comments about hard-working people of the state?' Earlier on Sunday, Dubey took to X and compared Shiv Sena (UBT), MNS and NCP-SCP to terror accused Salauddin, Maulana Masood Azhar and Dawood Ibrahim. 'In Mumbai, what is the difference between Shiv Sena Uddhav, MNS Raj Thackeray, and NCP Pawar Sahab, and those who drove Kashmiri Hindus out of Kashmir, like Salauddin, Maulana Masood Azhar, and Dawood Ibrahim, who committed atrocities against Hindus in Mumbai? One committed atrocity for being Hindu, while the others are committing atrocities because of Hindi?' Dubey wrote. In another X post, Dubey wrote, 'Those who beat Hindi-speaking people in Mumbai, if you have the guts, try beating Urdu-speaking people in Maharashtra. Even a dog becomes a lion in its own house, right? Decide for yourself who is the dog and who is the lion.' 'Does Devendra Fadnavisji agree to Ashish Shelar comparing Marathi Hindus to terrorists of Pahalgam?' Chaturvedi asked. On Sunday, Maharashtra Minister Ashish Shelar compared the agony of the Pahalgam terror attack, where Hindus were killed in the name of religion, and those getting 'beaten up' in the name of language. He said that these incidents were distressing for him. 'All these incidents cause pain, suffering, and mental distress. In Pahalgam, they shot them after asking about their religion. And here, they beat up the innocent Hindus just because of the language they speak. Such cases create a disturbance,' Shelar said. These remarks by BJP leaders come after incidents of violence and vandalism were reported in the state amid the ongoing Hindi-Marathi controversy. Five workers of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) were arrested in connection with the vandalism at entrepreneur Sushil Kedia's office in Worli, police said on Saturday. A case has been registered against them under Sections 223, 189(2), 189(3), 190, 191(2), 191(3), and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Who made him the gatekeeper of Hindi? Who made him the tax keeper of India?

Minister Ashish Shelar slams BJP MP over remarks against Marathi people

BJP leader and Minister Ashish Shelar on Friday responded to remarks made by its party MP Nishikant Dubey, who had said that the Thackerays (Uddhav and Raj) would be 'thrashed repeatedly' if they stepped outside Maharashtra and accused Marathi people of surviving on 'our money'. Without naming Dubey, Shelar said in the Legislative Assembly that no one should question the contribution of the Marathi community. 'Some MP from Jharkhand has commented on the work done by Marathi people. I won't name him—he is not a member of this House. But the Mahayuti and BJP are very clear: anyone can speak within the limits of law, but no one has the right to question the deeds and contribution of Marathi people,' he said. Shelar added, 'The whole nation knows our contribution to the GDP. We made the country's first film and established the first navy. Marathi people do not live on alms given by anyone.' Nishikant Dubey, BJP MP from Godda in Jharkhand, had earlier said, 'If the Thackerays step out of Maharashtra—and come to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh or Tamil Nadu—they will be thrashed repeatedly. You people (Marathi) are surviving on our money. What kind of industries do you have? If you are brave enough to beat Hindi speakers, then you should also beat those who speak Urdu, Tamil, and Telugu.' Shelar told the House that while he was refraining from naming the MP, he felt compelled to respond. 'It is not just about politics–it is about respect for the people of this state,' he said. Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray also hit out at Dubey. 'No one knows these people here and they should not speak anything about us. They have no stature, and one should not pay attention to what these people say.'

'Patak patak ke marenge': BJP MP Dubey targets Thackerays amid language; draws Aaditya's ire

NEW DELHI: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Monday triggered a fierce political row in Maharashtra after warning opponents that 'tumko patak patak ke marenge' (we'll thrash you thoroughly) while responding to MNS chief Raj Thackeray 's call to target Hindi speakers. Speaking in Guwahati, Dubey told ANI, 'You people are surviving on our money. What kind of industries do you have?... If you are courageous enough and beat those who speak Hindi, then you should beat all those who speak Urdu, Tamil, and Telugu. If you are such a big 'boss', come out of Maharashtra, come to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu - 'tumko patak patak ke maarenge'.' "We all respect Marathi and the people of Maharashtra, who fought for India's independence. The BMC election is due, and hence, Raj and Uddhav are doing cheap politics. If they have courage - they should go to Mahim and beat any Hindi or Urdu speaking people in front of Mahim dargah," the BJP MP further added. — ANI (@ANI) Leading the response was Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray, who accused the BJP of attempting to fracture Maharashtra through divisive rhetoric. 'This is exactly the BJP's mentality, which is anti-Maharashtra,' he told reporters. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo 'We have asked everyone not to react to such crazy and dirty minds because they want to create fear and instability in Maharashtra… This mentality of the BJP's MP represents the entire BJP; this does not represent North India.' Thackeray stressed that the issue was not between languages but an orchestrated effort by the BJP to inflame tensions for electoral benefit. 'People from all over the country come to Maharashtra with dreams and hopes… Our fight is against the government, not against any language,' he said. Criticising Dubey's remarks as 'shameless,' Aaditya added: 'Dubey is not the face of North Indians. He represents the BJP… These remarks were made with a political intent to divide Marathi and Hindi-speaking people.' Congress spokesperson Atul Londhe Patil dismissed Dubey's intervention as ignorant. 'He is foolish. This controversy is not about language,' Patil said. 'It is about whether two other languages, besides their mother tongue, should be taught to students of Std 1 to 4. The child can get confused… Congress respects all languages but is against diverting from 'Balmanasshastra' and confusing children.' NCP-SCP MLA Rohit Pawar accused Dubey of importing poll strategies from Bihar to stir unrest in Maharashtra. 'I request Nishikant Dubey ji not to try and implement election strategies specific to Bihar in Maharashtra. While he is thinking of the West Bengal and Bihar elections, he is disturbing the sense of equality in Maharashtra,' he said. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also demanded accountability from the state leadership. 'Earlier, BJP MLA Ashish Shelar compared Marathi Hindus with Pahalgam terrorists, and now Nishikant Dubey has made a statement. I want to ask the CM, why does he go quiet when it comes to standing for the state?' The row comes amid a larger political campaign by MNS and Shiv Sena factions, who have joined forces to oppose what they call the imposition of Hindi in Maharashtra's schools. The state government recently reversed its earlier decision to introduce Hindi as a third language in primary schools, but the controversy has continued to escalate.
