My Journalistic "Experiment" With Bal Thackeray Never Took Off: Sharad Pawar
Mumbai: NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar on Wednesday recalled his "experiment" with journalism, sharing that he and Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray had once tried to launch a monthly magazine, but the venture did not succeed. The octogenarian leader was speaking at a function organised by the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Patrakar Parishad to honour journalists for their contribution to the field. "I have had some connection with journalism. Had our experiment succeeded, we might have probably been worthy of the honours of the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Patrakar Parishad today," he said. "The late Balasaheb Thackeray, myself and a few friends had once started a magazine, each investing Rs 5,000. The idea was to launch it on the lines of the English 'Time' magazine. We released our first issue, expecting it to be so popular that it would not be seen anywhere. And that issue has never been seen since," Pawar quipped. He said journalism in a democracy is incredibly challenging. "I hope that you will continue to make significant contributions to democracy by preserving journalistic values," he said, referring to the award winners. The 'Balshastri Jambhekar Lifetime Achievement Award' was conferred upon senior journalist Madhukar Bhave, while Bharat Jadhav was given the 'Special Honour'. Journalists Mahesh Mhatre, Abhijit Karande, Amey Tirodkar, Pandurang Patil, Sarvottam Gavaskar, Dinesh Keluskar, Seema Marathe, Balasaheb Patil, Sharmila Kalgutkar and Bharat Nigde were honoured with various awards.

Sharad Pawar: Why insist that celebs have voice on Hindi imposition
Kolhapur: NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Friday said celebrities such as cricketer Sachin Tendulkar should not be insisted upon to express their views on making Hindi a must in Maharashtra school curriculum through National Education Policy 2020. "Ask Sachin about cricket; don't force him to take a stand on Hindi imposition," the veteran politician said in Kolhapur on Friday. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray announced a march in Mumbai on July 5 against Hindi as a compulsory language for students in state schools from Class 1. Although NCP (SP) has declared support to the July 5 Mumbai protest march, Raj Thackeray said he wanted to see who — especially Marathi artists and sportspersons — turn up and who do not for the march. "I don't know what Raj Thackeray meant by that. Why should one insist that Sachin Tendulkar puts his views across (on the issue of Hindi imposition)? I can understand if he is asked to share his views about cricket. Don't ask such personalities about issues not related to them. The issue of imposition of Hindi is important for us. Someone seeking their views and saying 'will see who comes for the protest and who does not' is not good," Pawar said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Kamiq 130 Edition. The NCP (SP) chief added, "Teach Hindi in state schools from Std V. Ignoring Hindi is also not good, as around 55% of people in the country speak the language."

July 5 March Against Hindi "Imposition": Sharad Pawar Led NCP Extends Support
Mumbai: The Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) on Friday said it will support the protest march scheduled for July 5 here against the "imposition" of Hindi in the school curriculum in Maharashtra through the National Education Policy 2020. The protest is being organised against the state government's plan to implement a three-language formula under NEP 2020, which includes making Hindi compulsory from Class 1. In a open latter shared on social media, NCP (SP) Maharashtra unit chief Jayant Patil, while announcing decision, said his party stands firmly with the people of Maharashtra on matters of regional interest. "Whenever the interest of Maharashtra is at stake, we stand with Maharashtra. And when the interest of the nation is at stake, we stand with the nation, setting aside political lines. That is the core policy of the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar)," Patil said. The move has been opposed by educationists, parents, linguists and activists who argue that early education should take place in a child's mother tongue, Patil said. The Marathi-speaking population is not opposed to learning multiple languages, including Hindi, Patil said, but insisted that imposing Hindi at the primary level is unacceptable. "If the three-language policy is being used as a tool to sideline the mother tongue, then the Marathi-speaking community will unitedly resist such moves," he warned. Asserting that the issue concerns linguistic and regional identities, he asked party office-bearers, elected representatives, and workers to participate in large numbers in the July 5 march. The march is aimed at safeguarding the role of Marathi in school education, Patil added.

‘Trying to create rift': Sharad Pawar questions demand to name Pune railway station after Bajirao I
NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar on Friday waded into the debate over naming Pune railway station, saying that people were unnecessarily creating a rift among communities by raising the issue. Pawar was speaking in the backdrop of BJP Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni's recent demand that the railway station be named after Thorle Bajirao Peshwa I. Also known as Bajirao I, Thorle Bajirao Peshwa was appointed the 'peshwa' or chief minister of the Maratha confederacy from 1720 to 1740 during the reign of Chhatrapati Shahu. However, Kulkarni's demand led to protests from Maratha organisations and Opposition parties. 'There was no reason to create a dispute by raising the issue now. I have not understood why there is an urge to give the name of Bajirao Peshwe. If bravery is the criterion, there are many names. Maratha king Sambhaji was known for his bravery and sacrifice,' Pawar said in Kolhapur. The NCP(SP) chief said there was no reason to raise the issue now. 'Some people only try to create a rift between different communities without any reason,' he added. Kulkarni had requested that the Indian Railways give the Peshwa's name to Pune railway station, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stand on highlighting local history in the name and planning of railway stations. The leader had never lost a battle, and such a great figure deserves the honour, she had said. However, city NCP (SP) chief Prashant Jagtap had opposed the demand, saying many historical leaders could be considered for the same honour. Meanwhile, NCP(SP) spokesperson and former city mayor Ankush Kakade said that the Pune railway station should be named after social reformer Jyotirao Phule or political and social leader Gopalkrishna Gokhale, considered to be the mentor of Mahatma Gandhi. A leader of the Maratha organisation Sambhaji Brigade, Santosh Shinde, also said that the organisations and political parties should oppose the move to name Pune railway station after Bajirao Peshwe, and suggested the names of Jyotirao Phule and Savitribai Phule instead. Shiv Sena (UBT) workers in Pune had also put up flex boards against Kulkarni, following which the police had registered a case against unidentified persons. Sule says Shaktipeeth will ruin state finances
Mumbai: A few days after the state cabinet approved the Rs 20,787 crore Nagpur-Goa Shaktipeeth highway, NCP (SP) working president Supriya Sule has stepped into the row over the project, saying the cash-starved state govt will not be able to afford the massive expenditure on the proposal. "State govt must give a serious thought to the huge expenditure on the project, particularly in view of the critical financial situation of the state. It will take several decades to restore the situation. It will have a massive impact on the Marathi people," Sule said. Sule referred to a series of reports in a section of the media, saying there is strong opposition to the project from all sections. "When our financial situation is very bad, still we are in the process of securing a loan of Rs 30,000 crore, with an interest of 8.85%, it is beyond the financial capacity of the state to afford such a high interest," Sule said. Sule said it was found that elected representatives of almost all the political parties have opposed the land acquisition process. "We need infrastructure projects, but at the same time, govt should not impose such projects on the people. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Doutor: Reverter encolhimento muscular após os 50 depende deste hábito noturno Revista do Homem Saiba Mais Undo If we accept the Shaktipeeth highway, there will be adverse impact on the financial situation of the state. Even the planning and finance departments have raised concern over the impact of the project on the financial situation of the project," Sule said. Sule asked why the govt is insisting on implementation of the project at a juncture when the local farmers have opposed it. "Farmers are not keen on the highway, if the project is implemented, it will have adverse impact on the financial situation of the state. People must examine the remarks of the finance and planning department," she said. MPCC president Harshawardhan Sapkal alleged that the Shaktipeeth highway is being planned and implemented at the behest of Delhi's elite, to benefit favoured industrialists. Sapkal said chief minister Devendra Fadnavis is pushing for the Shaktipeeth highway on orders from Delhi's power brokers. "A corridor is being planned from central India to Goa's port to help favoured industrialists export their raw materials abroad. This is a red-carpet project exclusively for them," Sapkal said. Sapkal said that while an allocation of Rs 20,000 crore has been made, the expenditure could go up to Rs 1.5 lakh crore and is a ploy for corrupt profiteering. "This is the beginning of pushing Maharashtra towards bankruptcy, since the debt burden has cross the mark of Rs 9.82 lakh crore," he said.
