Divorced actress Lee Si-young confirms pregnancy through IVF
South Korean actress Lee Si-young is pregnant with her second child, several months after her divorce.
The 43-year-old confirmed in March that she and her then husband, restaurant entrepreneur Cho Seong-hyun, had split after submitting divorce documents to the Seoul Family Court earlier in 2025.
She married Cho, who is nine years older, in September 2017, and gave birth to their son Jung-yoon in January 2018.
Lee took to Instagram on July 8 to make the surprise announcement of her latest pregnancy.
'Eight years ago, when I was expecting Jung-yoon, who is now the most important person in my life, I was not married and was filming a TV drama,' she wrote in Korean. 'I was younger at that time and had many shortcomings.'
Lee said as her son grew older, she regretted feeling so anxious during her pregnancy.
'I prepared for my second child through in-vitro fertilisation during my marriage,' she added.
'The fertilised embryo was not implanted and, as time passed, the topic of divorce was raised. As all the legalities (of our marriage) were being sorted out, coincidentally, the time came for us to make a choice as the five-year embryo storage limit was almost up.'
Lee said she decided to have the embryos implanted, even though it was done without her former husband's consent.
'I had always wanted another child, and I didn't want to experience the regret I felt with Jung-yoon again,' she wrote. 'I couldn't bear the thought of disposing the embryos as they reached the end of their storage period.'
She added the only thing that kept her going during her difficult marriage was her son, who filled her with happiness, hope and inspiration.
'I had a miraculous child who made me feel like motherhood was the reason for my existence,' she said. 'I know there are a lot of challenges ahead, and I have had concerns about various scenarios, but all these aside, I want to believe that my choice is worth it.'
Cho confirmed to South Korean media outlet Dispatch that he was initially against Lee's decision, as they are divorced. However, he said he will fulfil his responsibility as a father now that his ex-wife is pregnant with their second child.
'We have been communicating frequently due to our first child,' he said. 'We will do our best to fulfil our respective roles by discussing the necessary aspects of giving birth and raising a second child.'
Lee made her acting debut in 2008 and rose to prominence in the hit K-drama Boys Over Flowers (2009) and the first season of reality variety show We Got Married in 2009.
More recently, she acted in Netflix apocalyptic series Sweet Home (2020 to 2024), receiving favourable reviews for her role as Yi-kyung, a firefighter and former special forces soldier.
She is currently starring in comedy-action drama Salon De Holmes , playing one of the four housewives who become amateur sleuths in their neighbourhood while rediscovering their aspirations. – The Straits Times/Asia News Network

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular singer Datuk Nora Ariffin has claimed that her late husband, composer Johan Nawawi, was not properly compensated for his work as the lyricist of the iconic song, 'Sinaran', famously sung by Datuk Sheila Majid. In a recent Instagram post, Nora alleged that Johan received only RM60 for writing the lyrics to the widely acclaimed track. "'Sinaran' resonates everywhere," she wrote. "However, the lyricist of this song, Johan, only received RM60 for it." Nora further claimed that no one has stepped forward to advocate for the rights of composers and lyricists like her husband. Released in 1986, 'Sinaran' was a collaborative effort between popular composers Azlan Abu Hassan and Johan Nawawi. The single achieved significant popularity not only in Malaysia but also across Indonesia and Japan.

Interview: GOT7 Jay B On La Roche-Posay's New Anthelios UVMune 400, His Skincare Routine & Future Solo Projects
Skincare brand La Roche-Posay recently launched its latest innovation, the Anthelios UVMune 400 Anti-Dark-Spots Fluid SPF 50+, in Malaysia with a special celebrity appearance by Jay B (제이비), leader of GOT7. Formulated to meet the challenges of Malaysia's extreme UV levels, this next-generation sunscreen offers ultra-long UVA protection and visible dark-spot correction in a single, ultra-light formula. During the launch at Mid Valley Megamall, the K-pop idol also shared his personal skincare journey, underscoring the importance of reliable sun protection during both his performances and outdoor personal activities, so he can effectively shield himself from the sun. We also got to interview the idol himself to hear what he said about the new product, his skincare routine and his upcoming projects. 1. What is your daily skincare routine, and how do you incorporate the new Anthelios UVMune 400 into your day? Firstly, I start every morning with a mild cleanser and moisturising products. Lastly, I applied La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMune 400 sunscreen before going out. 2. What skincare or beauty products do you always bring with you when you travel? Since I'm mostly involved in outdoor activities. I always need to bring sunscreen with me. I genuinely carry sunscreen everywhere. Besides that, I have experienced sunburn before, and I felt like the skin tone didn't suit me. I also realised that under stage lights and when I'm out at beaches or doing water sports, sun protection isn't just about avoiding burns. Long-wave UVA can bounce off surfaces or slip through windows, and I began to notice small dark spots after a while. Now I never step outside without sunscreen—it's the first thing I put on. That's why sunscreen has become essential for me to always bring it. 3. What is your personal beauty philosophy, and how has it evolved over time? When I was young, my skin was naturally smooth, so I didn't have a specific beauty philosophy or routine. Now, looking back, I think if I were still at that age, even 1 year younger, I would have put more effort into skin care. 4. Your last visit to Malaysia was in April for your solo concert. Now that you're back, is there anything you'd like to try that you didn't get to do the last time? Actually, I got some travel recommendations from my friends, and I really want to go travelling. I recently went to Bali. I heard that some places in Malaysia offer scuba diving. I would love to go and try it. If I get the chance, I'll definitely bring La Roche Posay Anthelios UVMune 400 sunscreen with me. 5. What's a typical day like for you when you're not working? When I am not working, I look for various activities. But usually, I spent time practising, whether it's vocal training, instrument practice as well or language learning sessions. 6. What is next for your solo career? Are you currently working on new music? I am always working on new music. However, when it will be released depends on the right timing. I hope it will be released as soon as possible, so I can share the new album and meet my fans as well.

Chicken rice for RM3.60
A PLATE of Hainanese chicken rice in Kuala Kangsar is only RM3.60, reported China Press. With chicken rice now being sold between RM5 and RM9 elsewhere, Ji De Lai (which translates to 'remember to come visit' in Chinese) has become a crowd favourite in the royal town of Perak. According to shop owner Chen Xian Kai, 34, they have never raised their prices for the past 12 years since starting the business in 2012. Chen admitted that maintaining the price of chicken rice in spite of inflation meant he was earning less for every plate sold. However, he was able to sustain the business thanks to the support of loyal customers. 'Everyone has a different philosophy on making money. Some people are happy with earning a margin of 100%. Some are still dissatisfied despite raking in a margin of 200% to 300%. 'For me, as long as I am able to earn a profit after deducting all expenses, I will be satisfied.' Chen now runs the stall with his 31-year-old wife Huang Ri Yi. The couple wakes up at 3am every morning to get their ingredients from the wet market and start preparing the food at 5am. Their stall in Jalan Daeng Selili, Kampung Penaga is open between 8am and 1pm every day except Tuesdays. > King of Mandopop Jay Chou was recently spotted in the company of King of K-Pop G-Dragon, prompting speculation the two will be releasing music together, China Press reported. The two singers posted photos of themselves enjoying wine on the roof of a building in Taipei on July 14 following G-Dragon's recent concert at the Taipei Arena. 'Our language of communication is art and wine,' Chou wrote in English. According to a source in the music industry, both Chou and G-Dragon have met several times prior to this. As Chou and G-Dragon are known to sing, rap and even write their own songs, many fans are speculating of a possible collaboration soon.
