"Around 102.8kg of MDMA worth about Rs 750 crore has been recovered. Along with this, 1.5kg of hashish worth about Rs 1.5 lakh, 7,134kg of ganja worth nearly Rs 17.7 crore, 572g of OGCanvas worth about Rs 24,000, 148g of cocaine worth Rs 8 lakh, over 800g of intoxicant pills worth about Rs 30,000, and 14.7kg smack worth more than Rs 2.2 crore were recovered. Earlier this month, in a joint operation by SWAT and Badalpur police station team, three ganja smugglers were arrested and police recovered around 149kg of ganja, estimated to be worth about Rs 40 lakh, along with a truck, from their possession. In Oct 2024, Noida police launched 'Operation Prahar', under which drug hotspots such as educational institutions, coaching centres, and slums were identified and raids were conducted. A total of 75 arrests were made and 115kg of ganja, as well as smack and e-cigarettes were recovered across several raids.
In Jan 2023, the commissionerate headquarters located in Sector 108 opened up a 'Narcotics Cell' and established a 24-hour helpline to receive anonymous tips about drug smuggling activity. The cell and helpline aid cops in obtaining information to verify smuggling-related activity, create profiles on persons of interest and understand the nexus of different gangs. They also help identify drug hotspots, and monitor and act against illegal drug supply in NCR coordinated through the dark web.
Speaking on the commissionrate's future drug control plans, commissioner Singh said that their focus will be on de-addiction programmes. Police will run continuous awareness programmes to inform residents, particularly youths, of the ill effects of drugs.

Delhi court reserves verdict on issuing notice to Robert Vadra in land deal case

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday reserved its decision on issuing a notice to businessman Robert Vadra, son-in-law of former Congress President Sonia Gandhi, in connection with a money laundering case linked to a land deal in Haryana's Shikohpur. The Rouse Avenue Court will likely pronounce its verdict on July 31 regarding the issuance of a notice to Vadra, the husband of Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had filed a prosecution complaint under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), claiming that Vadra's Skylight Hospitality 'fraudulently' purchased 3.53 acres of land situated in the village of Shikohpur in Haryana's Gurugram district through 'false declaration'. During the hearing, advocate Zoheb Hossain, appearing for the ED, stated that the sale deed falsely declared a payment of Rs 7.5 crore, whereas in reality, no such payment was made. This amount was paid at a later stage to evade stamp duty, a fact that has been confirmed by key witnesses, added Hossain. Further, the federal anti-money laundering agency claimed that Vadra, 'through his personal influence', obtained a commercial license on the land purchased. As per the ED, the land was later sold to DLF at a higher price, and this aspect of the case is still under investigation. In April this year, Vadra was questioned in multiple rounds by the ED, during which his statement was also recorded. The land purchase deal in question was executed in February 2008 when Congress was at the helm in Haryana, and Bhupinder Singh Hooda was the Chief Minister. The mutation process, which usually takes months, was done the next day. Months later, Vadra received a permit to develop a housing society on the land, and the value of the plot increased. He sold it to DLF in June at Rs 58 crore. Suspecting the proceeds to be part of a money laundering scheme, the ED has been probing the trail behind the windfall gains. In October 2012, IAS officer Ashok Khemka (now retired), who was then posted as the Director General of Land Consolidation and Land Records-cum-Inspector-General of Registration of Haryana, cancelled the land purchase deal, citing procedural irregularities. Later in 2013, an in-house government panel gave a clean chit to both Vadra as well as DLF. When the BJP-led government came to power, an FIR was registered by the Haryana Police against former Chief Minister Hooda, Vadra, and others.

Patna Police arrest three for raping minor girl in Danapur

Patna: Patna Police have arrested three persons for allegedly raping a minor girl and blackmailing her with a video clip, an official said on Thursday. City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh said that the police came to know about the incident on July 22 after the victim's parents lodged a complaint at the Danapur police station. 'The investigation revealed that four youths allegedly gang raped the victim, recorded a video of the incident, and used it to blackmail her. They extorted jewellery kept in the house,' Singh said, adding that the case was solved within 24 hours of the complaint. Danapur Police registered FIR number 767/25 on July 22, 2025, under Sections 70(2), 308(2), 351(2) of the BNS, along with relevant sections of the POCSO Act (4/6/12). Following directions from the Senior Superintendent of Police, an SIT was formed under the leadership of City SP (West) to investigate the case. According to Singh, the accused befriended the victim on Instagram, took her to a hotel, gang raped her, recorded the act, and later used the obscene video to extort gold jewellery, which they sold at a shop. Based on the statements of the three arrested youths, the police also arrested goldsmith Arvind Kumar for allegedly purchasing the stolen jewellery. During questioning, Kumar admitted that he had bought the jewellery from the accused. 'We have seized five mobile phones during the operation, and raids are underway to apprehend another individual involved in the incident,' Singh said. The investigation team included Sub-Inspector Ashish Kumar Chaudhary, Sub-Inspector Bittu Kumar Sharma, Sub-Inspector Preeti Kumari, Assistant Sub-Inspector Chandan Pratap Karna, and members of the Police Station armed force. The incident once again exposes the sad and grim reality of the society pertaining to safety and security of women. Crimes against women have been one of the most glaring challenges across the nation and the entire country has been struggling to deal effectively with it.
