Who is Estes Carter Thompson III? American Airlines flight attendant jailed for filming girls
Estes Carter Thompson III, a former American Airlines flight attendant, was sentenced to 18 and a half years in prison on July 23 for secretly recording young girls in airplane bathrooms. He will also spend five years under supervised release after release, according to a USA Today report. Estes Carter Thompson III pleaded guilty to one count of attempted sexual exploitation of children and one count of possession of child pornography showing a prepubescent child.(Blue Ridge Regional Jail Authority / AP File) Thompson, 38, was arrested in January 2024 after a 14-year-old girl found his phone hidden in a bathroom during a September 2023 flight. The phone was set up to record video from under the toilet seat. Investigators later found out Thompson had recorded several other girls between January and August 2023. They also found hundreds of AI-made child abuse images in his iCloud account. The company said that Thompson 'did not reflect our airline or our core mission of caring for people,' and said it was fully cooperating with law enforcement in the investigation. Earlier this year, Thompson pleaded guilty to one count of attempted sexual exploitation of children and one count of possession of child pornography showing a prepubescent child. US Attorney Leah B. Foley said, 'Mr. Thompson took advantage of his position of trust as a flight attendant to exploit innocent children – directing them to an aircraft bathroom he had set up to record them and then revisiting those videos for his own sexual gratification.' Foley added, 'In so doing, he shattered five children's sense of safety and trust in the world around them, leaving them instead with fear, mistrust, insecurity, and sadness.' How did Estes Carter Thompson III get arrested? The incident that led to his arrest happened on September 2 flight from Charlotte to Boston. A 14-year-old girl got up to use the bathroom in the main cabin. Thompson told her the first-class lavatory was open and walked her there. Before she went in, he said he needed to wash his hands and that the toilet seat was broken. After he left, she noticed red stickers under the lid that read 'INOPERATIVE CATERING EQUIPMENT' and 'REMOVE FROM SERVICE,' with 'SEAT BROKEN' written on one. She also found a phone recording with the flashlight on. She took a photo of the setup and went back to her seat. Thompson then went in and removed the phone. The girl showed the picture to her parents, who then complained to the flight crew and the captain. Prosecutors said, 'When confronted by the minor's father and other flight staff, Thompson locked himself in the lavatory with his iPhone and restored the device to factory settings – wiping all content from the phone.' When the plane landed in Boston, police searched Thompson's phone and luggage. They found 11 of the same red stickers in his bag. A deeper look into his iCloud account showed he had recorded four more girls, ages 7 to 14, on other flights. 'Each of the videos appeared to be taken in a similar fashion, in which Thompson attached his iPhone to a spot above a toilet seat,' prosecutors said. In two of the videos, he saved hundreds of screenshots.

Associates allege drug abuse by Amritpal, says police chargesheet
Chandigarh: Two associates of Waris Punjab De chief and jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh have claimed in their disclosure statements before the police that Amritpal was "hooked to drugs" in Punjab and "consumed them in Assam's Dibrugarh jail too". The statements of Bhagwant Singh, alias Pardhan Mantri Bajeke, and Varinder Singh Fauji, were recorded in police custody in March after they were brought to Punjab from Dibrugarh jail earlier this year to face trial in the Ajnala police station attack case. At least six cops were injured in the attack, in which Amritpal and his associates barged into the police station using Guru Granth Sahib as a "shield" to get one of their associates freed. On Feb 24, 2023, Amritpal and his associates were booked on attempted murder and several other charges. While Amritpal is lodged for the third year in running in Dibrugarh jail under the National Security Act (NSA), Bajeke and Fauji spent two years there. Their disclosure statements are part of a charge-sheet filed by the police in a court in Ajnala last month. They have been sent to the sessions court in Amritsar, as the attempted murder case is under trial there. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Learn more about Sterilization Using Autoclave Technology contentcuehub Search Now Undo According to the statements, Amritpal "used Signal and Zigana apps, carried a special iPhone without any SIM card, talked to various persons living abroad while he was in Punjab and in Dibrugarh jail, and behaved weirdly in Dibrugarh jail, often hurling abuses at his associates under the influence of drugs." Responding to the claims, Imaan Singh Khara, the legal adviser of Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De), the political party Amritpal Singh's faction launched in Jan this year, said that such "confession statements have no value in the court." He added, "It is per se not admissible in the court." Claiming that Bajeke told him over phone from the official landline number of Bathinda jail, where he is lodged, that he did not give any such statement to the police, Khara alleged that "police got the signatures on blank papers". He alleged that it was "a deliberate attempt to defame and tarnish the image of Amritpal Singh by labelling him as a drug addict because he leads the campaign against drugs. It is character assassination. " Khara said, "Only statements made in the court are admissible." Khara also said that "the statements hold no relevance in context to the Ajnala incident FIR." A senior Punjab Police officer, privy to the developments in the case, said, "These are disclosure statements of the accused and are part of a supplementary charge sheet submitted in the court. These may come into play in the course of the investigation." BOX Bid to defame: Lawyer Ritu Raj Singh Sandhu, counsel for the associates of Amritpal Singh in the case, said the "disclosure statements are an attempt to defame Amritpal Singh." Sandhu said, "The disclosure statement should focus on the relevance of the facts in the case and any related recoveries, for example, recovery of weapons if any fact emerged. What he (Amritpal) does or does not do is not relevant. Were they to recover drugs in the case? Also, the disclosure statements are not in proper format. Instead of questions and answers or conversations, these are like essays written by someone." MSID:: 122884271 413 |

Vastrapur traders duped of Rs 26cr in phone deal
Ahmedabad: Two Ahmedabad-based mobile phone traders were cheated of Rs 26.34 crore between March and April after they placed a bulk order for iPhones with a Delhi-based supplier. A resident of Vastrapur filed a complaint with the detection of crime branch (DCB) on Thursday, stating that he and his business associate ordered 7,900 units of iPhone-15 and iPhone-16 from a Delhi-based firm. The total payment made was Rs 36.95 crore through official banking channels. According to the FIR, they received only 1,876 iPhones, worth Rs 12.16 crore, and a partial refund of Rs 1.6 crore. The remaining amount — Rs 26.34 crore — was not returned, nor were the pending phones delivered. The complaint states that the accused gave false assurances, shared shipment documents, and held video calls to show the legitimacy of the deal. Despite repeated follow-ups, the deliveries were not completed, and the traders began to suspect foul play. When the traders visited Delhi in April to inquire about the delay, the accused demanded an additional Rs 3 crore, claiming the earlier payment was short. Later, the complainants discovered that many documents were forged and that they were cheated. The accused reportedly stopped responding to calls and messages after this point. Police registered the case under sections 316(2) (criminal breach of trust), 318 (cheating), and 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A DCB officer said further probe is underway.
