IND vs ENG 3rd Test: 'I'd play rugby with that' – Stuart Broad ridicules Dukes ball as shape controversy erupts at Lord's
Former England fast bowler
Stuart Broad
has sparked fresh debate around the quality of the Dukes ball used in the ongoing India vs England Test series, dramatically claiming he would rather "play rugby" with one of the rejected balls used during the third Test at Lord's.

The third Test has seen multiple ball changes across the first two innings, with players from both sides voicing their concerns about the ball going out of shape too quickly. After Day 3, the discussion found its way into the Sky Sports, where Broad, alongside
Michael Atherton
, examined one of the balls deemed unfit for play.

Atherton began by questioning the decision to change it: "Got a ball from this game that was changed. That one did not go through the gauge and was deemed to be unsuitable. Now, my view is that that's a perfectly good ball to bowl with... I think they're being precious on that point. What do you think?"

Broad though didn't hold back: "Well, I'm outnumbered with three batters and one bowler.
I would play rugby with that. I'd be rolling that to the umpire and it would sort of go, bonk, bonk, bonk. I mean, the reason it's out of shape is because it's soft and I can squeeze that. I can squeeze that even more out of shape."
Poll
Do you agree with Stuart Broad's assessment of the Dukes ball quality?
Yes, the quality has declined.
No, the ball is still good.
Not sure.
He added that such balls become ineffective for both bowlers and batters alike: "It gets a bit of an ugly shape on the top. When that's hitting the pitch and the surface, it's just dying on the surface. It's not going to react off the surface.

You need the harness of the seam to grip and move... even to be able to play a lovely cover drive and hit the ball for four."
Highlighting the change in playing conditions over time, Broad noted: "It's frustrating for a batter when you hit it through the covers... it rolls for two or three when it should've gone for four. First 10 years of my career, I can't remember changing a ball ever. It's a new thing. Maybe the ball quality, in my opinion. Yes."
The Dukes ball is now under the scanner - and Broad's blunt assessment has only intensified scrutiny.

NHL Trade Rumors: Sabres shut down Canucks' hopes as Bowen Byram unlikely to move
Speculation linking Buffalo Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram to the Vancouver Canucks has cooled (Imagn Images) Trade buzz around Buffalo Sabres defenseman Bowen Byram and a possible move to the Vancouver Canucks has recently intensified—but NHL insider David Pagnotta has poured cold water on the speculation, suggesting the connection is outdated and unlikely to revive anytime soon. Canucks interest in Bowen Byram was real—last season During a recent appearance on the 'Sekeres & Price' podcast, Pagnotta admitted that Vancouver's interest in Bowen Byram wasn't imagined, but clarified it was more relevant during the 2023–24 season. 'So, with the Canucks, I think it was real more so in the season than it was this past June,' he said. 'But honestly, for me, it would probably be something coming out of left field once all is said and done if something does happen with the Canucks. ' His comments come as the Sabres elected to take Byram, a restricted free agent, to arbitration—effectively blocking other teams from submitting offer sheets. That decision handed Byram control over the term of his next deal, letting him choose between a one-year or two-year contract. David Pagnotta: Canucks desperately seeking centres. Sabres aren't shopping Bowen Byram—but won't rule out a move While Buffalo isn't openly putting Byram on the trade block, they haven't shut the door on potential offers either. General manager Kevyn Adams emphasized the team remains flexible: 'If there's a deal out there that makes sense for us … we're open to it.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo But it's not just about stockpiling future assets. Adams made it clear the Sabres want impact players in return, particularly upgrades on the offensive front. According to Pagnotta, 'The Sabres want to upgrade themselves up front,' and while '(the arbitration) eliminates the offer sheet threat... it doesn't eliminate the fact that they may still end up moving him.' Also Read: NHL Trade Rumors: Penguins fleece Stars in Matt Dumba deal, land 2028 draft pick in salary dump move Adding more fuel to the fire, Pagnotta noted that Byram 'would prefer a change of scenery,' potentially signaling some behind-the-scenes tension. However, despite this, he insists a Canucks trade is highly unlikely at this stage. The situation remains fluid, but for now, Byram appears set to stay in Buffalo—unless the right deal comes along to shake things loose. 'Don't torture me': Andre Agassi explodes at BBC over Royal Box obsession during Wimbledon broadcast
'Don't torture me': Andre Agassi explodes at BBC over Royal Box obsession during Wimbledon broadcast (Image via getty) Fans tuning in for Friday's Wimbledon semifinal between Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz got more than just tennis. During a short pause in the match, BBC analyst Andre Agassi voiced clear frustration live on air. What started as a normal broadcast turned into an awkward moment between Andre Agassi and fellow commentator Andrew Castle and the reason might surprise you. Andre Agassi calls out BBC focus on Royal Box during Carlos Alcaraz vs Taylor Fritz match For the BBC, Andre Agassi and Andrew Castle were offering live commentary for the Wimbledon semi-final played at Centre Court. Andrew Castle switched the focus to the Royal Box during a brief pause by Carlos Alcaraz and Taylor Fritz, noting celebrities seated there, including singer Elaine Paige. Andre Agassi destroys Andrew Castle (not sticking to the narrative) Andre Agassi, clearly eager to stick to the match, tried to highlight Taylor Fritz's bold playing tactics. He noted that Taylor Fritz had increased risk on his serve and backhand. But Andrew Castle interrupted to discuss more celebrities. This led Andre Agassi to pause and respond with the now-viral line: 'Don't torture me. Let me finish my point.' Viewers on social media quickly took Andre Agassi's side, saying they tuned in to hear expert commentary, not celebrity spotting. During this exchange, BBC cameras showed more shots of guests in the Royal Box than the match itself. Andre Agassi and Andrew Castle spark debate over Wimbledon coverage focus After Andre Agassi made his tennis analysis clear, Andrew Castle continued naming high-profile figures in the audience, including Nick Clegg, the former UK Deputy Prime Minister. This led Andre Agassi to directly say, 'People watching are watching for tennis. Not for this.' Also Read: Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf's son Jaden Agassi shows love for girlfriend Catherine Holt's bold new photo from bedroom series Questions about the BBC's coverage priorities were raised by the circumstances. Many believe that one of the best tennis players in history, such as Andre Agassi, should be given the opportunity to concentrate on tennis insights instead of being dragged into irrelevant discussions. While Andrew Castle may have been following direction from producers, the moment created a visible on-air clash. Andre Agassi's comment sparked debate online about whether sports broadcasts should stick to game analysis or entertain with celebrity coverage.
