5 best shows to watch like 'Too Much' on Netflix, HBO Max and more

Netflix's newest romantic comedy series is "Too Much" from "Girls" creator Lena Dunham.
The streaming service dropped this new show on July 10, and it has landed decent reviews (81% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes). TG's Malcolm McMillan said the show was "one of [his] favorite binge-watches this year" so far, and it's just recently crept into the Netflix top 10 shows list, too.
With that in mind, it felt like a good time to highlight a selection of follow-up shows like "Too Much" for when fans get to the end of the whirlwind romance between Jessica (Meg Stalter) and Felix (Will Sharpe). Here are five shows like "Too Much" I think you should stream after watching bingeing it and where you can watch them right now.
Jordan Weiss's "Dollface" is, like "Too Much," a show that sees our protagonist (Jules, played by Kat Dennings) being unlucky in love.
After being abruptly dumped by her longtime boyfriend, web designer Jules sets out to reconnect with her two best friends (Brenda Song, Shay Mitchell) and reenter the world beyond her relationship ... with a little help from her out-there imagination.
I streamed both seasons shortly after season 2 premiered in 2022, and came away having thoroughly enjoyed this offbeat watch. Sadly, it was one of many series kicked off Hulu & Disney Plus during a "cost-cutting" initiative, but it's worth seeking out all the same.

"Love Life" was one of the first things I thought about revisiting the minute I finished "Too Much", and it definitely feels like a worthy follow-up.
Created for HBO Max by Sam Boyd, "Love Life" is an anthology show that follows a different person each season as they navigate the highs and lows of modern dating. The first series revolves around Darby Carter (Anna Kendrick), while the second follows Marcus Watkins (William Jackson Harper).
Similar to "Dollface," "Love Life" was removed from its original streaming home, but, at the time of writing, it's actually available to stream for free. If you were on the hunt for a new show and didn't want to shell out for another streamer, this would be my pick.

If you were on Netflix at some point towards the end of 2024, then you must have come across "Nobody Wants This," the streamer's acclaimed, incredibly charming series starring Kristen Bell and Adam Brody. And if you haven't streamed it yet, prepare to fall head over heels for Erin Foster's brilliant rom-com.
"Nobody Wants This" centers on the incredibly unlikely relationship struck up between two very different people: an unconventional rabbi fresh out of a committed relationship (Brody), and an agnostic woman who co-hosts a sex and relationship podcast with her sister (Bell).
After being introduced at a dinner party, sparks fly between the pair, but they come from different worlds, have different outlooks, and face plenty of roadblocks to romance. How can this possibly work out? You'll have to stream it and see. And when you do fall in love with the show, you can join me in fondly looking forward to streaming "Nobody Wants This" season 2 later this year.

Tudum highlights "Survival of the Thickest" as one of Netflix's top feel-good watches, and I'm pretty confident that viewers who enjoyed "Too Much" will also enjoy seeing Mavis take on the world.
Created by and starring Michelle Buteau, the series follows Mavis Beaumont (Buteau), a 38-year-old stylist who dreams of taking the fashion world by storm along with her longtime photographer and boyfriend, Jacque (Taylor Selé).
When she stumbles upon Jacque in bed with another woman, Mavis' world is turned upside down. However, with the support of her friends, she commits to securing her break on her terms, no matter what the world throws her way.

Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble's HBO Max campus comedy "The Sex Lives of College Girls" could be another solid follow-up worth considering, if you've got access to HBO Max.
Premiering in 2021, this ensemble series follows four 18-year-old freshmen at New England's prestigious Essex College.
There, we meet four new randomly assigned roommates — Kimberly (Pauline Chalamet), Bela (Amrit Kaur), Leighton (Reneé Rapp), and Whitney (Alyah Chanelle Scott) — who spend their time on campus navigating their new lives and all the drama, freedoms and trials that college life brings.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's $100 million Netflix deal won't be renewed: Report

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's $100 million deal with Netflix will not be renewed when it expires later this year, according to several reports. The couple signed the contract in 2020, but it will not be extended beyond 2025, a Hollywood insider tells Entertainment Weekly's sister publication PEOPLE. The move reflects "a shift in Netflix's broader business strategy," according to the outlet. An anonymous source also told The Sun that "there's no animosity from either side," and that "things have just run their course."EW has reached out to representatives for Netflix and the couple for comment. Markle and Prince Harry released a a handful of non-fiction projects on the streaming giant. The impending end of the deal will reportedly not impact the rollout of season 2 of Markle's lifestyle docuseries With Love, Meghan, which premiered in March and ran for eight episodes, featuring celebrity guests like Mindy Kaling and Abigail Spencer joining the Duchess of Sussex at her home and in her kitchen. In addition to With Love, Meghan, Netflix also rolled out the Liz Garbus-directed Harry & Meghan docuseries in 2022, which included six episodes revolving around the duo's life in the United States after stepping back from their duties as senior members of the British royal family. The couple formed their Archewell Productions company after announcing their decision to leave the royal family in January 2020, with the pair signing their deal with Netflix that September. Other Archewell projects at Netflix included Live to Lead, Heart of Invictus, and Polo. "Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope," the couple said at the time in a statement to the New York Times. "As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us." They added that Netflix's 'unprecedented reach" to subscribers will assist in their mission to "share impactful content that unlocks action." Their foray into entertainment wasn't entirely well received, however, with The View cohost Ana Navarro admitting on the air during a March broadcast that "some people like her, some people hate her, some people don't care," looking toward the camera while motioning toward herself. Former View cohost and conservative political commentator Meghan McCain also slammed Markle over With Love, Meghan, calling the series out of touch with audiences that Markle was attempting to reach with the show. 'I cannot stand her. I love people that I can relate to, like every other 40-year-old mom. I don't want to eat her jam,' McCain said on her digital talk series. 'I don't know what she's doing. This is like her ninth rebrand. I actually had to review her show and her podcast, and it was horrible. It was so boring." Read the original article on Entertainment Weekly

If you loved ‘Superman,' you need to watch ‘Smallville' — and you can stream all 10 seasons on Hulu

There's a new Superman in Metropolis, and while his face is new, he feels eerily familiar. Since the beginning, Superman has always felt like two characters: Kal-El and Clark Kent. Every hero has a secret identity, but few are as tricky to balance. Most actors tend to favor one over the other. But in 2025's "Superman," David Corenswet nails both. He brings classic charm and moral clarity while making the character his own. We meet him already established at the Daily Planet and as a hero — no tired origin story, just immersion. While Corenswet shines, what thrilled me most was the film's embrace of Clark's roots. Too often, Superman movies skip over what actually makes him Clark: the Kents. Watching certain scenes, I felt like I was back in 2001, reliving Tom Welling's journey from farm boy to hero in "Smallville." Now that Kansas is back in the spotlight, it's the perfect time to revisit Clark's coming-of-age. While "Smallville" is largely pre-cape, its monster-of-the-week structure gives us a deep dive into Clark's most complex relationship: Lex Luthor. And with Nicholas Hoult's sharp new Lex still fresh, now's a great time to binge-watch all 10 seasons of "Smallville" on Hulu — whether it's your first watch or your hundredth. One month free trial! Try Hulu free for 30 days and check out movies like "The Amateur" at no cost. Yes, Clark is an alien. But what most Superman movies overlook is the fact that he was raised human. The Kents didn't just give him shelter — they gave him his values. Like the new film, "Smallville" focuses on life on the farm, showing Clark's version of a 'normal' upbringing. The Kents may not be wealthy, but they raise him with humility, kindness, and a deep respect for life. In "Smallville," John Kent won't let Clark accept a new truck from Lex, even after saving his life. The lesson? You don't get rewarded for doing the right thing. Without that foundation, Clark could've easily gone the way of Nathan Fillion's Green Lantern — or worse, become someone like Lex, who masks selfishness with noble intent. The Kents in "Superman" (2025) are even more grounded. Their house is run-down, their farm modest. But what they give Clark is priceless: identity, purpose, a compass. 'It's who you are, not where you come from,' John tells him — a sentiment echoed throughout "Smallville." Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. I've said it for years: Michael Rosenbaum is the best Lex Luthor. Most versions dive too fast into villainy, skipping the complexity. Lex isn't just a criminal — he's a brilliant, obsessive, deeply broken man. "Smallville" took liberties with Clark and Lex's origin, but their bond is the soul of the show. It's layered, tragic, and unforgettable. No surprise the top "Smallville" fanfiction ship is Clark and Lex. Over time, Lex becomes obsessed with Clark's secret, and their trust slowly unravels. Rosenbaum gave us a slow, painful descent into darkness, as Lex's curiosity morphs into paranoia. Hoult's Lex in "Superman" echoes that same DNA: unhinged brilliance fueled by insecurity. Both actors capture Lex's deep need for power and control, laced with just enough humanity to make you flinch. I don't usually feel for villains — but Rosenbaum's Lex gets me every time. People love to complain that superhero movies are 'too political' now. But Superman's always been political. He's an alien immigrant who fights for the powerless — that's baked into his DNA. The 2025 film leans into that legacy, just as the original comics tackled war, corruption, and inequality. "Smallville" isn't overtly political, but it still explores power and morality — especially through Lex's rise in later seasons. If the movie's commentary hit home, you'll find quieter echoes in Clark's small-town struggles and Lex's ambition. And importantly, neither version gives us a perfect hero. Corenswet's Clark is cocky and stubborn, and some of the film's chaos is his own doing. Same goes for "Smallville's" Clark, who hides the truth from Lex and walks away when honesty might have changed everything. Superman's strength isn't just in flight or heat vision — it's in trying to do the right thing, even when he fails. And that drive doesn't come from Krypton. It comes from the Kents. Bachelor Nation stars, including Gabby Windey and Nick Viall, are returning to reality dating TV as hosts of their own shows

Windey and Viall are among the the latest 'Bachelor' franchise alums announced as hosts of brand-new reality shows. What happens after you appear on a reality dating series? For these Bachelor Nation alums, the next step is to host one. In the past week, Bachelor and Bachelorette stars Gabby Windey, Nick Viall and his wife, Natalie, as well as Kaitlyn Bristowe and Colton Underwood, have all been chosen to host different reality TV dating shows for Netflix and Hulu. Bristowe and Underwood are the latest Bachelor Nation stars turned reality TV cohosts. The pair, who had respective stints as leads of The Bachelorette and The Bachelor, were announced on Monday as the hosts of Hulu's upcoming reality dating series Are You My First? which follows a group of virgins as they journey to find a lasting romantic love. The show is set to premiere on Aug. 18, with all 10 episodes dropping at once. The Vialls, meanwhile, were announced as hosts of Netflix's age-gap reality dating series Age of Attraction on July 17. Windey, another Bachelor Nation alum who has emerged as a reality TV queen since her stint on Season 3 of The Traitors, will also return to the small screen, this time as the host of Love Overboard, a new reality dating series under Alex Cooper's Unwell Productions. Here's everything we know about these new dating shows so far. 'Are You My First?' First times, first loves and first heartbreaks are at the forefront of Hulu's upcoming reality dating series Are You My First? hosted by Kaitlyn Bristowe and Colton Underwood. Hulu's official synopsis of the show describes it as a 'groundbreaking new dating experiment' featuring 'the largest, hottest group of virgins ever assembled' as they 'search for intimacy, love — and maybe their first — in a tropical paradise designed just for them. For the first time, they're free to explore their connections without judgment, allowing these sexy young singles to embark on a heated yet heartfelt journey packed with romantic dates, revealing challenges, and new love interests eager to find 'the one.' Who will find that special someone? And who will go home hot, bothered and heartbroken?' Bristowe famously appeared on Season 19 of The Bachelor, and then once more as the lead on Season 11 of The Bachelorette. Underwood, before making history as the first lead in Bachelor franchise history to come out as gay, competed on Season 14 of The Bachelorette. All 10 episodes of Are You My First? will be released on Hulu on Aug. 18. 'Age of Attraction' Netflix announced that Viall and his wife, Natalie, who is 18 years his junior, are set to host an unscripted reality TV series called Age of Attraction. The show, according to Variety, will see a group of singles between ages 22 and 59 as they explore connections with one another to see if it's meant to last. The show, per Netflix, is described as a 'new dating experiment' that suggests 'it simply does not matter how many candles were on your last birthday cake or how few wrinkles have formed on your forehead.' Viall and Joy will help cast members 'search for their soulmates' and find out if 'age is just a number.' The eight-episode series, which was filmed in Whistler and Vancouver, British Columbia, is set to premiere sometime in 2026. 'Love Overboard' Windey, who made her Bachelor Nation debut as a contestant on Clayton Echard's season of The Bachelor in 2022 before costarring on Season 19 of The Bachelorette alongside Rachel Recchia, is returning to reality television — this time as a host. Alex Cooper's Unwell Productions has tapped Windey to host Love Overboard, a new reality dating series that takes place on a luxury yacht where contestants will compete for love and gain access to specific amenities based on how well their journeys are going. Hulu announced Windey as the show's host on July 14. According to the show's official press release, 'Get ready to hit the high seas with 'Love Overboard'! Step aboard the ultimate luxury yacht, where sexy singles are ready to mix and mingle … and find love. But there's a twist … gaining access to the yacht's extravagant amenities won't be so simple. As the journey unfolds, romance ignites; alliances form; and hearts are shattered. In the end, only one couple will reign supreme. Who will rise to the top, and who will be left stranded?' While an official release date hasn't been set, Love Overboard is expected to debut in 2026. Solve the daily Crossword
