Karnataka: Jagat Prakash Nadda, Pralhad Joshi attends KAHER's 15th convocation in Belagavi
Nadda was addressing the newly passed out students from several branches of healthcare education at 15th Convocation of KLE Academy of Higher Education and Research (KAHER), held at JNMC Campus in Belagavi, Karnataka.
Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Chemical and Fertilisers, JP Nadda, attended the event as the Chief Guest and Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, was present as the Guest of Honour.
On this occasion, Dr. Shailesh V. Shrikhande, Deputy Director of Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, was conferred with the honorary Degree of Doctor of Science to mark his exemplary contribution to the field of medical sciences. Dr. Prabhakar Kore, Chancellor of KAHER, presided over the event, and Dr. Nitin M. Gangane, Vice Chancellor, presented the University report.
Nadda congratulated the students for their hard work and also to the parents, faculty members and the entire ecosystem of KLE for playing an important role in their success. The Minister advised these young medicos to be responsive to society's needs and also develop an understanding of the health policies of the country. The Minister referred the erstwhile health policy, which concentrated majorly on curative part of tertiary health care.
'Tertiary health care system is important, but we cannot ignore primary health care. Under the preventive care aspect, Modi government has established 1 Lakh 77 thousand Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, which are first point of contact for a patient. For promoting preventive healthcare, we have decided mass screening of every individual over the age of 30 years,' said the Health minister.
The minister also expressed his happiness over seeing an integrated convocation ceremony, where students of various disciplines i.e. allopathy, homeopathy, nursing, dental, pharmacy, Ayurveda, Physiotherapy etc. were receiving their respective degrees and medals.
'For years, there has been a practise of working in silos. One branch didn't recognize others. It is PM Modi's vision that we should adapt an integrated approach. In AIIMS, Delhi, a Centre for Integrative Medicine and Research (CIMR) is result of this holistic approach,' Nadda said.
He added, 'I am very delighted to see the integration here at this convocation, where students of allopathy, Ayurveda, Pharmacy etc. are getting their degrees at a single stage.'
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and stewardship of Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, India has taken a leap in medical education and health care. He referred to increased number of seats in medical undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as the number of AIIMS increased in last 11 years. Pralhad Joshi also underlined the exemplary role played by the KLE in the sector of medical education. (ANI)

1.78 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs operational across India: Govt
New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) A total of 1,78,154 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AAMs), formerly known as Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWCs), have been operationalised across the country as on July 15, 2025, the government said today "The estimated cost for establishment and maintenance of each AAM is approximately Rs 17.03 lakh, including one-time and recurring annual costs. Funding for AAMs is approved through the National Health Mission's Programme Implementation Plan, submitted by States and Union Territories," Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Prataprao Jadhav, shard these details in a written reply to the Lok Sabha. The Ministry also highlighted the 'Free Diagnostics Service Initiative' (FDSI) launched under the National Health Mission in 2015 to provide free pathological and radiological diagnostic services at all levels of public health facilities. The initiative includes 14 tests at Sub Centres and 63 tests at Primary Health Centres. The AAMs, set up by strengthening Sub Health Centres (SHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs), provide comprehensive primary healthcare, encompassing preventive, promotive, rehabilitative, and curative services. These include management of communicable and non-communicable diseases, reproductive and child healthcare, and other health issues. Equipped with upgraded infrastructure, essential drugs, diagnostics, trained personnel, and IT systems, the AAMs deliver twelve packages of primary healthcare services closer to people's homes, said Prataprao Jadhav. Promotive and preventive health form an integral part of care at AAMs, with wellness activities such as yoga, cycling, and meditation being conducted regularly. As of June 30, 2025, over 5.73 crore wellness sessions have been organised. The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) aims to establish a digital health ecosystem enabling interoperability of health data across public and private institutions to ensure seamless care. So far, 79.75 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) IDs have been generated and 65.34 crore Electronic Health Records (EHR) have been linked, said the Minister. UNI AJ RN

Amit Shah's promise on bail for nuns was not kept: Archbishop
Thalassery Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplani on Friday said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah's assurance that the Malayali nuns arrested in Chhattisgarh would be granted bail had not materialised. Addressing the media in Kannur on the sidelines of the protest led by the Thalassery, Kottayam and Kannur dioceses, Archbishop Pamplani said that although Amit Shah had promised that the Chattisgarh government would not oppose the bail plea, the government's lawyer argued in court that the nuns had committed a non-bailable offence. He noted that while the country at large acknowledged that the nuns had not done anything wrong, they remained in custody. Citing Central government data, he said forced conversions had not taken place in the country and termed the Prohibition of Forced Conversion Act as a tool to harass individuals like the detained nuns.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 20th installment of the PM-Kisan scheme from his constituency Varanasi on Saturday.
