Confirmed: Serfontein joins Bulls on three year deal
Springbok centre Jan Serfontein is back in South Africa after playing his rugby abroad for several years and will next feature for the Bulls.
The 32-year-old previously played for the Bulls between 2012 and 2017 before moving to Montpellier in France, for whom he featured over 140 times.
The former Grey College pupil played 35 Tests for the Springboks between 2013 and 2017. He also played for the Junior Boks team that won the 2012 Junior World Championship, the same tournament in which the midfielder was named World Junior Player of the Year.
Serfontein will play for the Bulls for the next three years. He'll compete mostly with Harold Vorster and David Kriel for a starting position.
The midfielder is already training with the Bulls and could feature in the Currie Cup, before he turns his attention to the next season of the United Rugby Championship. The Bulls finished runners up for a third time in the URC just a few weeks ago.

Currie Cup result: Boland stun Cheetahs in Wellington
Both teams scored five tries in a hugely entertaining game. The Boland Cavaliers got their 2025 Currie Cup campaign off to the perfect start when they stunned the Cheetahs 37-35 in their opening game in Wellington on Sunday afternoon. Hawies Fourie's team qualified for the top-eight Premier Division of the Currie Cup after performing well in the SA Cup competition some months ago. The newcomers to the Premier Division dominated the opening half of the match and led 27-14 at half-time. But the Cheetahs responded with an energised second half performance and looked to have sewn the match up deep into the half. But two late tries by the Bolanders, the final one well into over-time, secured a dramatic win for Fourie and his charges. Both teams scored five tries in a hugely entertaining game. The Cheetahs' coaching staff of Frans Steyn and Ruan Pienaar will not be happy after their side got back into the game in the second half, just to give it away at the end. The Cheetahs are next up against the Pumas at home on Friday, while Boland take on Griquas in Kimberley next Sunday. In the other matches this weekend, the Pumas beat Griquas 49-28 in Mbombela, the Lions beat the Sharks 46-5 in Joburg and the Bulls beat Western Province 48-23 in Cape Town.

Chamberlain has had a challenging time at the Bulls since joining them from the Sharks, struggling for game time in the United Rugby Championship. However, in the Currie Cup opener, he shrugged off the rust, expertly guiding the Bulls to a six-try win. Scrumhalf Zak Burger and Number 8 Jeandré Rudolph each contributed two tries. 'That bravery to keep pushing the boundary – that was class.' Nomlomo expressed particular pride in his team's first-half performance, which saw them lead 38-16 at the break. 'We were clinical,' he stated. 'That's where everything started. I think when you're up against the blue machine and it's going like that, it is a bit difficult to play against. Province were incredibly gutsy, but their discipline didn't help them at all and probably killed the game for them.' The home team suffered three first-half sin-bins, with captain Zain Davids and locks Gary Porter and Alex Groves all receiving yellow cards for breakdown infringements. At one point, Western Province struggled to scrummage due to a lack of locks on the field. This week, the Bulls will host a Sharks side still reeling from a significant defeat by the Lions at Ellis Park.
