Parsnip and haddock velouté, chicken with tonka beans and creamy polenta, and a chocolate cream with hazelnut cazette flower will also be on the menu, the European Space Agency said on Wednesday.
Food delivered to the ISS must meet strict specifications. It cannot be crumbly or too heavy and must be able to be stored for two years, the agency said.
Fresh fruit and vegetables are available only when a new spacecraft arrives with supplies. So most meals in space are canned, vacuum-packed or freeze-dried from a set of options provided by space agencies.
To spice things up, one out of every 10 meals is prepared for specific crew members according to their personal tastes.
Adenot said: 'During a mission, sharing our respective dishes is a way of inviting crewmates to learn more about our culture. It's a very powerful bonding experience.'
Her menu was developed by the French chef Anne-Sophie Pic, who holds 10 Michelin stars and was named best female chef by The World's 50 Best Restaurants in 2011.
Pic said it was an 'exhilarating challenge' to develop the menu, which includes four starters, two mains and two desserts.
Adenot, 42, a former helicopter test pilot, is scheduled to arrive for her first tour on the ISS in 2026.
A pair of Nasa astronauts returned to Earth in March after being unexpectedly stuck on the ISS for more than nine months because of problems with Boeing's Starliner spacecraft.

We might know the fundamentals – what a vagina is, what a vulva does and how babies are made – but with the help of dozens of medical experts, journalist Polly Vernon has created an encyclopaedic deep-dive into female biology, from the very basics to the weird and wonderful. The truth is, women have been set up to feel like strangers in their own bodies, thanks to a lack of scientific research. 'Women's bodies were excluded from US clinical trials between 1977 and 1993,' Polly explains. 'For years, we were treated as smaller, stranger versions of men.' The consequences of this oversight have sent ripples into the success of diagnoses and treatment. 'Take mammograms: if it were men's testicles, would they be squashed flat like that?' Polly asks. 'Or smear tests – surely there's a better option than a speculum?' But there are glimmers of change. A DIY cervical cancer test that only requires women to take a swab at home will finally be rolled out on the NHS from January, and for the first time, there are now more female than male doctors in the UK. 'We're nowhere near where we need to be, but things are moving forward,' Polly agrees. Her book, How The Female Body Works, is a call to action for all women to reclaim, understand and demand better when it comes to our bodies. Here's the stuff you may not know. Millions of women live life according to their menstrual cycle, study shows 7 THE PAIN GAME Period cramps, childbirth, endometriosis – we're no strangers to pain. 'I asked if it is feminist folklore that women endure more pain than men,' says Polly, about her interview with Professor Andrew Horne, director of the Centre for Reproductive Health at the University of Edinburgh. His answer? 'God, no, every part of your biological existence involves more pain.' But women put on a brave face. The annual Nurofen Gender Pain Index Report highlights that girls come to expect their pain will not be believed, and many disregard it for fear of wasting others' time. 'There are so many things we just put up with because we think we have to,' says Polly. 'We need to get better at going: 'I need this [pain relief], and I deserve it.' It is recognising what isn't acceptable and never believing, 'It's part of being a woman'.' If you have severe period pain, advocate for yourself. Your GP can help with medications or tests to find the cause. 7 BLAME THE HORMONES How many times have you blamed your mood on being 'hormonal'? And did you know which hormones, exactly, were to blame? There are more than 50 different kinds in the body, and men and women have the same hormones, just in greater or lesser quantities. Hormonal fluctuations impact your emotional state, but also performance, behaviour, daily activities and even injury risk. 'It can all seem a bit mystical, like it has us in its grip and there's nothing we can do about it,' says Polly. But there are definitely things you can do for better hormonal health. 'Get control of your sleep,' advises Polly. 'Make sure you go to bed at a regular time and don't eat or drink a lot directly before. Exercise, and think about nutrition and stress management. Get those in place first and then look at any medication you need.' See a GP if menopause, for example, is getting you down – they can discuss prescribing HRT. FEEL ON THE FIRST Have you ever been told that underwiring, deodorant and even black bras can lead to cancer? 'This is absolutely, categorically not true, just nonsense,' says Polly. But what is important when it comes to cancer is being aware of your own body and any changes. ''Feel it on the first' [of the month] is the best way to remember to check your breasts,' GP Dr Philippa Kaye says. Feel around your breasts, nipples, collarbone and into your armpits. And when you start getting called for mammograms (typically after 50), take up the appointment. 7 SYNC WITH YOUR CYCLES Hormones get a bad rap, but you can harness them positively, too. 'Bang in the middle of your menstrual cycle, just before you're ovulating, your body wants you out there, flirting,' says Polly. 'It drives you to meet people, because it wants you to have sex and get pregnant. It also makes you quite disinhibited and reckless. It's like you're drunk, but on oestrogen.' It's fleeting, though – once ovulation is over, progesterone hits. 'You wonder why you ever said yes to that party. You're thinking: 'I'm awful', 'I'm ugly', 'I'm socially incompetent'. Your body is working on the presumption you are pregnant, and it wants to keep you tucked away to keep that 'pregnancy' safe,' explains Polly. PROTECT YOUR BITS Your vagina is more than a body part – it's a marker of your overall health. 'I'd heard loads about gut microbiome, but the vagina is performing a job of equivalent importance, and it needs to be looked after,' says Polly. The vagina microbiome is a delicate balance of bugs, bacteria and fungi, and if disrupted it could lead to infections like thrush, bacterial vaginosis and UTIs. To keep your vagina in harmony, never clean it with soap. Only use a mild, unscented soap and water for the vulva (outside area), or even better, an emollient. 'It makes me angry that we are sold [feminine hygiene] products we don't need,' says Polly. 'Not only is it a financial con, but it's also a health risk, and ties into the idea that vaginas are smelly and dirty.' Your genitals will prefer cotton knickers over synthetic-fibre thongs, and nothing at night. SQUEEZE THOSE MUSCLES Yes, we know you've heard it before, but you really do need to exercise those pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic floor naturally weakens in pregnancy and childbirth, and then it weakens again in menopause. This can lead to urinary and bowel incontinence. But it's not something to be dismissed as just 'another part of ageing'. 'Incontinence is not just silly and embarrassing, it keeps women from socialising and from doing their jobs,' says Polly. 'That has extraordinary consequences, because we need to engage in the world if we want to protect our brains against Alzheimer's, for example. "One gynaecologist I interviewed said we should teach girls to do pelvic floor exercises at school.' To find your pelvic floor muscles, squeeze as if you are trying to stop yourself peeing or farting. It's not too late to start exercising them to reduce leaks, even if you already have incontinence. The gym bro supplement that may be a game changer for women in midlife
Until recently, creatine supplements was almost exclusively used by athletes and bodybuilders looking to enhance performance and pack on muscle mass. But now there is a surprising rapidly growing market for it: middle aged women. While Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson still puts in his protein shake to 'put on size,' Ivanka Trump revealed earlier this year she takes a dose with her morning smoothie. From fitness influencers on TikTok to health experts, the chalky powder is now being touted for a range of benefits for women. So, what exactly is creatine and does the science back up the hype? 'Creatine is a natural compound that comes from three amino acids – arginine, glycine, and methionine,' Dr. Rupa Parmar, a physician and Director at Midland Health, tells The Independent. 'It's stored mainly in our muscles to help produce energy.' While small amounts come from foods like red meat and fish, our bodies also make about a gram each day. Most women don't get the recommended three to five grams per day from food, Rupar said, and supplementation may help. 'Women naturally have much lower creatine stores than men and usually eat less of it in their diet, so they may actually benefit more from taking creatine to boost their levels,' he added. Creatine's rise as a go-to supplement can be traced to 1992 when British sprinter Linford Christie and hurdler Sally Gunnell, both vocal about its use, won gold at the Barcelona Olympics. Glossy fitness magazines began branding it a 'breakthrough'; a 1998 article in Fortune magazine called the compound 'nature's steroid'; a Los Angeles Times headline blared, 'Power powder.' While much of its early reputation focused on muscle-building and workout recovery, research suggests creatine's benefits may extend beyond the gym. Creatine has been linked to improved memory, brain health, depression treatment and increased energy. 'It can even support brain health, with studies suggesting the substance helps to improve cognitive function and provide some protection as we age,' Rupar said. A preliminary study by the University of Kansas Medical Center on people with Alzheimer's found that creatine supplements may improve memory and executive function. Creatine may also offer benefits tied to hormonal fluctuations. 'Creatine can help ease fatigue during your period by supporting stable energy levels,' Rupar continued, 'especially when you're feeling more tired.' Oestrogen and progesterone, hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle, influence how the body produces and uses creatine, he explained. 'During the menstrual cycle, creatine levels can change, and supplements may help keep energy and muscle function more stable, especially when oestrogen is low,' Rupar said. For women approaching or going through menopause, creatine appears especially promising as it may help counteract declines in muscle mass, strength, and bone density, particularly when combined with resistance training. One 12-month study found that creatine reduced the loss of bone mineral density in 47 postmenopausal women. For all its potential upsides, creatine isn't without drawbacks. One of the most common complaints is bloating: because it saturates the muscles, it may cause water retention, which sometimes leads to a bloated feeling and a few extra pounds on the scale from water weight. Still, studies have repeatedly shown creatine to be safe for most healthy adults when taken at recommended doses. Experts advise consulting a healthcare provider before starting, especially for those with kidney conditions or who are on medication.

‘The American system is being destroyed': academics on leaving US for ‘scientific asylum' in France
It was on a US-bound flight in March, as Brian Sandberg stressed about whether he would be stopped at security, that the American historian knew the time had come for him to leave his home country. For months, he had watched Donald Trump's administration unleash a multipronged attack on academia – slashing funding, targeting international students and deeming certain fields and even keywords off limits. As his plane approached the US, it felt as though the battle had hit home, as Sandberg worried that he would face reprisals over comments he had made during his travels to the French media on the future of research in the US. 'It makes you think about what your status is as a researcher and the principle of academic freedom,' he said. 'Things have really changed … The entire system of research and higher education in the United States is really under attack.' Soon after, he became one of the nearly 300 researchers to apply for a French university's groundbreaking offer of 'scientific asylum'. Launched by Aix-Marseille University, the programme was among the first in Europe to offer reprieve to researchers reeling from the US crackdown on academia, promising three years of funding for about 20 researchers. Last week, Sandberg was revealed as one of the 39 researchers shortlisted for the programme. 'The American system is being destroyed at the moment,' he told the 80 reporters who turned up to meet the candidates. 'I think a lot of people in the United States and as well as here in Europe have not understood the level to which all of higher education is being targeted.' As reports began to emerge of funding freezes, cuts and executive orders targeting institutions across the Atlantic, institutions across Europe sprang into action, announcing plans to lure US-based academics. At Aix-Marseille University, hundreds of applications came in from researchers tied to institutions such as Johns Hopkins University, Nasa, Columbia, Yale and Stanford. Three months after they launched their programme – named Safe Place for Science – the university said it had received more than 500 inquiries. It was a glimpse of the 'historic' moment the world was facing, said Éric Berton, the university's president. 'More than 80 years ago, as France was under occupation and repression, America welcomed exiled researchers, offering them a helping hand and allowing them to keep science alive,' he said. 'And now, in a sad reversal of history, some American scientists have arrived in France in search of a space for freedom, thought and research.' Last week, the university opened its doors, allowing reporters to meet a handful of the Americans who were in the final running to join the programme. As high-profile battles play out between universities such as Harvard and the White House, all of them asked that their institutions not be named, citing concerns that their employers could face reprisals. Some declined to speak to the media, while others asked that their full names not be used, offering a hint of how the Trump administration's actions are sowing anxiety among academics. 'The worry is that we've already seen that scientists are being detained at the border. Granted they're not US citizens, but they're even saying now that if you speak out against the government, they will deport you,' said a biological anthropologist who asked to be identified only as Lisa. 'And so I don't need anything against me at the moment until I can officially move here with my family.' Together the researchers painted a picture of a profession that had been plunged into uncertainty as the US government slashes spending on research grants and dismantles the federal institutions that manage and hand out funding. Months into Trump's second presidency, politics is increasingly blurring into academia as the government works to root out anything it deems as 'wokeism' from the post-secondary world. 'There's a lot of censorship now, it's crazy,' said Carol Lee, an evolutionary biologist, pointing to the list of terms now seen as off-limits in research grant applications. 'There are a lot of words that we're not allowed to use. We're not allowed to use the words diversity, women, LGBTQ.' 'People are moving, for sure,' said Lee. 'A lot of top people have already moved to China. And China is laying out the red carpet. If people are getting an offer from Canada, people are moving to Canada.' For Lisa, the biological anthropologist, the reality of dismantling her life in the US and moving her husband, a schoolteacher, and their two kids across the Atlantic was starting to sink in. 'It's excitement, but it's nerve-racking,' she said. She knew she had to get out when it became clear that Trump had won a second term. Months later, she has found a potential path to do so, but is still wrapping her head around all that taking part in Aix-Marseille University's programme would entail. 'It is a big pay cut,' she said. 'My kids are super gung-ho. My husband is just worried that he won't find a job. Which is my worry too, because I don't think I'll be able to afford four of us on my salary.' But for her, and several others on the shortlist, the view was that there were few other options. 'It's a very discouraging time to be a scientist,' said James, a climate researcher who asked that his full name not be used. 'I feel America has always had a sort of anti-intellectual strain – it happens to be very ascendant right now. It's a relatively small proportion that doesn't trust scientists, but it's unfortunately a very powerful segment.' His wife had also been shortlisted for the same programme in southern France, leaving the couple on the brink of uprooting the lives and careers they had spent decades building in the US. 'I have very mixed feelings,' he said. 'I'm very grateful that we'll have the opportunity, but really quite sad that I need the opportunity.'
