Edward too busy to marry
Matters relating to the question of the marriage of the Prince of Wales are discussed by Mr G. Ward Price, who is accompanying the Prince on his tour in South Africa in the capacity of official correspondent. "The eagerness for the future King's wedded welfare," says Mr Ward Price, "has aroused among some sections of the British public a certain impatience. Speculation and gossip follow naturally. Many explanations, most of them grotesquely ill-informed, have been put about for the fact that the Prince of Wales in the early thirties still remains a bachelor. Yet the simplest of them all is nearest to the truth. It is that the Prince has never yet had occasion to think about marrying. In a matter so important for himself and the nation he quite rightly does not intend to be hurried. Like many other busy and efficient men, the Prince believes in concentrating on one thing at a time, and his attitude toward marriage is that it can quite well wait until his Empire tours are over.
"If there were a Princess of Wales the dominions would naturally be most anxious that she should accompany the Prince on his visits. Were the Prince of Wales a married man he could not hope to see the Empire so thoroughly as he now sees it in his travels, and he does not intend to allow marriage to stand in the way of that. These long journeys are by no means undertaken on the spur of the moment. They have been planned a whole year, and sometimes more, ahead. Four months to Canada, seven months to Australia, seven months to India and Japan, seven months to South Africa and the Argentine — those are arrangements that have been filling up great spaces in the Prince's agenda book over since the war.
"In the case of any other young man whose immediate future was so encumbered with foreign travel it would seem not only natural, but praiseworthy, that he should postpone thoughts of matrimony until his time were more his own.
"It can be stated with confidence that the King and Queen agree with their son's attitude toward this question of his marriage. The days have gone past when the marriage of the Heir to the Throne was a matter to be settled in his youth by the monarch and his political advisers with small regard to the personal preferences of the young man whose domestic future was thus taken out of his own hands."
Cycling on one's mettle
To the editor: Sir, concerning the danger of loose metal on roads and streets in Dunedin and vicinity, anyone who has ridden a motor cycle or push bike over these treacherous surfaces has no doubt experienced an unpleasant thrill on running into such an antiquated method of repairing road surfaces. The machine becomes absolutely unmanageable, and the rider is lucky to escape a nasty spill, with always the danger of a following tramcar or other vehicle running over him. I think there ought to be a by-law administered by cyclists and motorists. The City Council and other responsible authorities for the state of the roads could then be charged under this by-law for "negligent control of the surface of the highways" and heavily fined, the fine to come out of councillors' pockets, and not from the public fund. I guarantee then there would be a little more care taken by the "experts" to see that maintenance metal was applied to the roads in a commonsense manner. — I am, etc, C.J.B. Ward — ODT, 4.7.1925

We Call For Peaceful And Political Settlement To The Crisis In The Republic Of Togo
Again, the people of Togo are on the streets across the country to protest against their government. As a result, protesters are now calling for President Faure Gnassingbe to resign over what the Togolese people say, his failed leadership in the West African nation. For the past twenty years, the world, particularly African leaders have watched Togo under the leadership of President Faure Gnassingbe. Recent changes in the national Constitution is what has ignited the current situation, which is dangerously degenerating. The New African Charter International (NACI) is worried about this instability in Togo and the earlier the international community, through the United Nations, intervene to save the situation is the better. We want the world to know that the situation in Togo cannot be addressed through pouring more fuel on the ground, but through peaceful dialogue and comprehensive political settlement amongst the Togolese people. It is our view that an eye for an eye, and a tit for tat option will serve no purpose in the situation in Togo, but only brings destruction, which is not good for Africa. We are concerned also about the deteriorating human rights and the destruction taking place in Togo since this protest, which began on June 26th, 2025. We call on all parties to not allow the situation to worsen because it's only the Togolese people themselves who will have to incur the loss. Peace and political settlement must be allowed to give expression so that Togo will not slide into bitter civil conflict. The New African Charter International cannot afford to see more deaths in the streets of Lome and other major towns that are witnessing the current protests. We encourage protesters to now seek peaceful end to their action, while the government must take serious step to address fairly the grievances of the protesters. There should be a clear road map to save Togo and the Togolese people. The international community through the United Nations must wake from the slumber. The New African Charter International (NACI) is an African-based advocacy movement that is dedicated to peace, stability, progress, development and prosperity, and unity and sovereignty of the African continent. The new Africa is not the old, oppressive, black neo-colonial, retrogressive, environmentally-degrading and subservient Africa. The new Africa is the one in which leaders are ready, willing and able to harness the continent's rich and abundant mineral wealth and natural resources for the upliftment of Africans, both at home and abroad. The new Africa is the one in which courageous leaders stand by their people, and are willing to defend, in word and in deed, human rights and freedoms of African people, to true independence and sovereignty. The new Africa abhors leaders who fuel fear or division among their people; and seeks leaders who can unite all of Africa, for an Africa that serves Africans both at home and abroad. God bless Africa!

Call On All Africans To Condemn Israel's Destabilisation Plan In The Sahel Region Of Africa
Today the relative peace and political stability in the Sahel region have come under serious threat made by the current Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu. The Israeli Prime Minister in a video that has gone viral through the social media unveiled his plan to destabilize the African continent. Mr. Netanyahu intimated the international public that his next stop would be the liberation of the African continent, after completing his mission in the Middle East. One cannot understand what really the Israeli leader would want to liberate in Africa, but his intention should not be seen as an isolated incident, though there will be vociferous denials from the Judases who are willing to rally behind the Zionist Prime Minister to export terror on the African soil. There is just a possible link and which undoubtedly we all know who are behind this wicked, criminal, neo-fascist plan. Credible sources have intimated the Sahel Solidarity Campaign Network (SaS-CaN) about a clandestine and well-coordinated plan to invade the Sahel states of Mali, Burkina Faso and the Republic of Niger, and the intention to assassinate the AES leaders and destabilise the region. This seditious intention is not new, it is only the recruitment of new actors and actresses to do the neo-colonial bidding in the Sahel states. The intention to destabilise the AES is clear right from the word go. The pertinent questions here are: is the Israeli Prime Minister presenting himself as a tool being manipulated and used by the enemies of Africa or whether he is acting on the instructions from the real architects who are hell-bent on destabilizing the Sahel region? Who will benefit if they succeed in killing the leaders of Mali, Burkina Faso and the Republic of Niger, because touching means touching everyone, including both the leaders and their citizens? Is the Israeli Prime Minister planning to punish Africans in the Sahel for their governments not backing recent Israeli aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran? What is the motive behind the Israeli Prime Minister attempt, ostensibly to scare Africans about liberation, while in actual fact the plan is to meddle in the internal matters of the Sahel with the ill-intention to assassinate the leaders of Mali, Burkina Faso and the Republic of Niger? Has Netanyahu's Israel degenerated into a terrorist state that is being used by the enemies of Africa to carry out political biddings in the Sahel region? It is clear that Netanyahu's seditious exercise is to wreck Africa hundred years backward. We call on all African people and their organisations to immediately condemn this evil plan which, if implemented, could be tantamount to waging an undeclared war of genocide against Black people on the planet. We call on the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to distance itself from this criminal, diabolic and neo-colonial plan, and to publicly urge its members-states and apparatus not to play any part in this obnoxious, racist and anti-African scheme, and not to allow criminal acts to be executed in its name or on its behalf, against any members-states of the AES. We are sending out this message because ECOWAS already has the blood of hundreds of innocent Africans on its hands, who are protesting for democracy, human rights and sovereignty in members-states. Those involved libelous attacks on the opposition, injuries to school children, terrorism against youths, arson of political parties' offices, killing and indiscriminate arrests of prodemocracy and human rights' activists. It is unfortunate, if not tragic, that ECOWAS which has arrayed itself as the bastion of democracy sit aloof and deliberately refused to condemn acts of political gangsterism (manipulation of national constitutions to establish dynasty rule) that most members-states use to destroy the democratic opposition and to intimidate those civil groups that stand to defend democracy, human rights and sovereignty. We urge all Africans in the Sahel not to be provoked by the criminal actions of the pro-colonial conspirators, not to be intimidated by their divisive and distractive tactics. Africans in the Sahel should remain calm, vigilant and to guard their freedom and sovereignty under their authentic leaders. Netanyahu's venomous statements and seditious intention cannot be justified in any sense, because his plan can only be seen as another attempt to wreck havocs on the African continent, by creating division, resulting in hate and violence. This speaks of the role of traitors, rogues and neo-colonial puppets in Africa, who are out to bid the destabilization of the Sahel region. We are living witnesses how Israel would jump at any opportunity to orchestrate violence that result in unleashing heinous attacks and genocide to its Arab neighbours, particularly to Palestinian people. This is evident by the ongoing genocide campaign in Gaza. One cannot understand today, why the Israeli Prime Minister will indulged in actions that promote terrorism, degradation and dehumanization in Africa. Is this just a bluff or another attempt to distract people away from domestic pressure? Who will dispute us that Zionism is raising its head once again, but with more dangerous plan for the people of Africa? The truth is that it is insane for any person or group of persons to think that the new Sahel under the role-model leadership of the three wise men will continue living with the vengeance of some traitorous, deceitful and power-drunk dictators who would stop at nothing in their determination to sell the dignity of African people for a life of opulence and immorality. With a well mobilised African youths along with a united people, the Sahel region will no longer be the backyard of the neo-colonial masters and their local collaborators. The ongoing massive protests in the Sahel region in support of their leaders should now send clear message to regional blocks from all sides of the colonial-divided Africa to work with the AES (Alliance of Sahel States) with open mind and beware of their clandestine and surreptitious plots. They should instead team up to fight against evil in Africa, and not be seen as acting as proxies or cheap pawns to destroy the progress and development of Africa. Against the foregoing, it is also appropriate and necessary to recognise the citizens' solidarity and support behind the leaders of the AES and their recent actions in defending sovereignty and actions of their leaders. The threats of sabotage, vilification and undeclared psychological war promoted by willing and chaotic African leaders against the Sahel states has certainly put the neo-colonial powers into gigantic shame and disgrace. They are shamed and disgraced so much that they now moved to employ their common dirty tactics, by recruiting new client Heads of States in Africa to bid the destruction of the Sahel and serve as a distraction. The Sahel people must be protected, as the AES leaders stand to do everything to make the region a safer environment for humanity. The Sahel people have faced, will live through and overcome these wicked, hateful and destabilising plots. We conclude by making it clear that the Sahel region is not a trust territory or backyard to any foreign power or block. The national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of members-states of the AES must be respected by all, and any attempt to breach this internationally-accepted principle will be condemned and resisted. Alimamy Bakarr Sankoh Co-founder and President The Sahel Solidarity Campaign Network
