I tried PizzaExpress' new summer menu in Bexleyheath - I found the best new pizza

Yahoo20-06-2025

I tried PizzaExpress' new summer menu at the Bexleyheath branch – and found the best pizza I've ever eaten.
PizzaExpress has always been my go-to spot for a relaxed meal out.
As someone who eats gluten-free, I've found they cater brilliantly without sacrificing taste or options.
So when I heard about their new summer menu, I couldn't wait to give it a try.
Gluten-free diner finds spicy perfection in PizzaExpress' Calabrian Feast (Image: Holly Brencher) We started with the new Buffalo Chicken Wings and Buttermilk Chicken Strips.
The wings were coated in Sauce Shop's Buffalo Hot Sauce and served with a creamy blue cheese dip.
They were messy in the best way – tangy, spicy and completely addictive.
Buffalo wings and buttermilk strips kick off PizzaExpress summer feast (Image: Holly Brencher) The buttermilk strips were perfectly golden and crispy, great for dipping and sharing.
Both dishes felt fresh, packed with flavour and ideal for kicking things off.
For drinks, we tried the new Soho Spritz.
It was fruity and refreshing without being too sweet – ideal for summer.
And with their current deal of two for £12, it felt like a bargain.
Then it was time for the pizzas.
Four Seasons Speciale offers a flavourful twist on a classic favourite (Image: Holly Brencher) I started with the Four Seasons Speciale – a modern rework of their iconic 1965 pizza.
I ordered it on a gluten-free base, and as always, it was crisp and light without falling apart.
Each quarter of the pizza had a different topping, which made it ideal for someone indecisive like me.
One part had pepperoni and Calabrese sausage, bringing heat and richness.
Another was topped with baby plum tomatoes and basil pesto, fresh and herby.
There was also a quarter with mushrooms and truffle oil, which felt indulgent and earthy.
And the last section – salty anchovies, olives and capers – packed a real flavour punch.
It's a pizza that truly has something for everyone.
But then came the real star of the meal – the Calabrian Feast.
Calabrian Feast crowned standout dish in new PizzaExpress lineup (Image: Holly Brencher) This was honestly the best pizza I've ever eaten.
It was loaded with 'nduja, Calabrese sausage, pepperoni and crispy pancetta.
On top of that were two types of mozzarella, Gran Milano cheese and an extra chilli kick.
The finishing touch was a drizzle of hot honey, which balanced the heat beautifully.
Every bite was packed with bold, spicy flavour and rich, creamy cheese.
It was indulgent, fiery and unforgettable.
Now, I didn't try it myself, but PizzaExpress has found a bold new way to tackle the pineapple-on-pizza debate.
Instead of serving it on pizza, they've created Hawaiian Hot Dough Balls.
Tossed in garlic butter, topped with pancetta and pineapple, and drizzled with Pineapple Habanero Hot Sauce, they're certainly a talking point.
According to new research from the brand, the UK is split 50/50 on pineapple on pizza.
But more than half of people say they'd try these new Dough Balls, which just might be the middle ground we've all been waiting for.
For dessert, we had the Birthday Cake Sundae.
It was sweet, playful and totally satisfying.

Layers of vanilla gelato, raspberry coulis, whipped cream and sprinkles made it feel like a celebration.
It even had a mini sponge cake and a topping of Joe & Seph's Birthday Cake Popcorn.
A proper party in a glass.
PizzaExpress has nailed it with this summer menu.
They've kept their classics while bringing in bold new flavours and playful twists.
Whether you're a spice lover, a sweet tooth or someone who wants variety, there's something here for you.
And for gluten-free diners like me, it's one of the few places where you feel totally looked after.
The Calabrian Feast alone is worth the visit.
This menu is a summer treat that genuinely delivers.

Sam Fender's London Stadium Show Launches U.K.'s Summer of Music: 5 Best Moments

The U.K.'s summer of live music kicked off in earnest this week with a number of huge tour debuts throughout major cities, particularly in London. Over at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (June 5), Beyoncé brought her Cowboy Carter tour to these shores for the first time, and a day later, Robbie Williams was just a stone's throw away at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium. The festival circuit also got off to a powerful start with Massive Attack in Victoria Park's LIDO, and Charli XCX set to grace the same venue next weekend. More from Billboard Finneas Says He Was Tear-Gassed During ICE Protest in L.A. Kevin Parker Previews New Tame Impala Music During Barcelona DJ Set BRIT Awards 2026 to Be Held Outside London for First Time No gig was bigger than Sam Fender's record-setting show at the London Stadium on Friday (June 6) night with a whopping 82,500 tickets sold for his largest-ever show (1,000 more than The Weeknd at the venue in 2023). The event arrived during a banner year for the North Shields-born rocker. His third album, People Watching, is the best-selling British album of 2025 so far, and the fastest-selling LP by a British solo act since Harry Styles in 2022. Over the course of the summer, he'll play more huge shows in his hometown Newcastle, and headline outdoor shows in Manchester and across Europe. Packed to the brim with fans of all ages (but a large contingent wearing the homestrip of his beloved Newcastle United Football Club), it was a moment to celebrate just how far he'd come since his 2017 arrival, a hard-won British success story when they feel worryingly scant. These are the best moments from Fender's headline show at London Stadium. Fender was undeterred by what people want him to play, staying true to the songs he feels the set deserves. To drop in two lesser-known B-sides — 'Howdon Aldi Death Queue' and 'Tyrants' — from his second and third albums, respectively, is hubristic but justified. The former was a wry look at the daftness of COVID-era Britain, while the latter 'should have been on' People Watching he told the crowd, a reminder of the stark quality of that record that this could be left off, or a cheeky warning to label execs that he knows best. When Fender last toured the U.K. in December 2024, he gave fans the first taste of People Watching months ahead of release. Six months later, he's still rolling out tracks from the LP and switching up the setlist with 'Rein Me In' earning a live debut in the biggest of settings. Even better, the performance of this song was elevated by rising British star Olivia Dean who played on the bill earlier in the day. Her rich vocals sidled up to Fender's, creating a sumptuous moment in an otherwise rowdy show. Rock anthems in the 21st century have been hard to come by, but 2021's 'Seventeen Going Under' is a rare exception and has embedded itself into British culture. The song reflects on Fender's upbringing in a macho environment, but also trying to support his mother as she suffered at the cruel hands of the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) who withheld vital benefits. It's pure Springsteen, but also a story distinctly his own. People Watching ends with Fender's most tender song, 'Remember My Name,' a homage to his late grandparents and the simplicity of their love and life together. The track features a brass band from the North East, a nod to the city's mining community, and during its tour debut The Easington Colliery Brass Band joined Fender on stage for a gorgeous moment of understated grandeur and tradition. There was nary a dry eye in the house. Before playing his final track 'Hypersonic Missiles,' which references the 'kids in Gaza' being 'bombed,' Fender spoke directly to the crowd, saying, 'It breaks my heart that it's more relevant now than it was then,' when he released the song in 2019. He called for a 'free Palestine' and called for a stop to the 'ethnic genocide,' encouraging fans to donate to and engage with the work of Doctors Without Borders who will join him throughout his summer tour. JURASSIC WORLD EVOLUTION 3 Removes Generative AI From Game After Fan Backlash

Could it be… Good news? I know, I know, it's hard to imagine in this economy. But it seems like, even in the most minor of ways, good has won out over evil. Or, in this case, humanity has won out over AI. AI is here and it's probably not going anywhere, but that doesn't mean we have to let it replace the most creative among us. Jurassic World Evolution 3, a long-awaited dinosaur strategy simulation, triggered its fans' teeth when its developer, Frontier Developments, announced it had used generative AI to create in-game portraits of scientists. This Jurassic World Evolution 3 news garnered an uproar among fans, which is honestly amazing to see, because more and more, there seems to be a push for people to simply accept generative AI as part of our reality. But no, fans took to the internet to demand that the generative AI elements and portraits be removed from the game in favor of actual art created by actual humans. And LO, Frontier Developments listened, removing the generative elements from the game. Incredible! In a post on Steam, the company responded to the AI backlash, saying 'Thanks for your feedback on this topic. We have opted to remove the use of generative AI for scientist portraits within Jurassic World Evolution 3.' In a statement, Frontier confirmed that despite these pivots away from generative AI, Jurassic World Evolution 3 will maintain its release date of October 21, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. This may not seem like a huge victory, but it is. Generative AI will creep into our games and fictions not in huge waves, but in small piece after small piece. Insisting that the properties we love employ only humans, who do real, creative, and passion-filled work, will help keep the soul of our art whole a little longer. Huge round of applause to you, Jurassic World Evolution 3 fans.
