Over 10,000 expected at Yang di-Pertuan Agong's birthday celebration in Limbang
MIRI (May 29): More than 10,000 visitors from Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei, and the Federal Territory of Labuan are expected to enliven the official celebration of the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong's Birthday in Sarawak, which will be held in Limbang from June 11 to June 15.
Minister in-charge of the event, Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, at a press conference today said the Limbang Division has been chosen as the host for this year's celebration.
He said the event is hosted by a different division each year to promote awareness of the monarchy's significance among all levels of Sarawakian society.
'We are giving every division in Sarawak, including Limbang, the opportunity to host the official celebration of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's Birthday. This year, Limbang was selected to give its people a chance to understand the significance and importance of the monarchy institution.
'In the context of unity, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is a symbol of strength for our country's ethnic diversity and serves as a balance for justice and welfare among Malaysians,' said Sagah.
Sagah, who is also the State Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, said various exciting programmes will be held throughout the five-day celebration.
Among the highlights are Interfaith Thanksgiving Ceremony at the Limbang Civic Centre (June 11), 'Raja Kita' Exhibition at the Limbang Civic Centre (June 12 to 15), Special Sermons at all mosques in Sarawak (June 13), Thanksgiving Ceremony at the Jannatul Firdaus Mosque, Limbang at 6pm (June 13), and Tea Reception at the Limbang Civic Center (June 14).
There will also be side events such as Limbang Kitchen, Limbang Idol, and more.

The tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) in Parliament on Thursday marks a significant milestone in charting the nation's medium-term development course. As Malaysia stands at a crucial juncture amidst global economic uncertainty, technological transformation, climate change, and demographic shifts, the 13MP presents an opportunity to reset priorities, build resilience, and steer the nation toward sustainable and inclusive growth. Its success, however, will depend not just on ambition but on discipline, transparency, and effective execution at every level of government and society. Regular public reporting and performance audits will help ensure accountability and course correction when needed. A rigid implementation would risk making the Plan obsolete in a fast-changing world. As a nation, we must treat the 13MP not just as a policy document, but as a shared national commitment. All stakeholders—government, private sector, civil society, and citizens—must work together to ensure its goals are translated into real and measurable outcomes that improve the quality of life for all Malaysians.

Trump visit will cause traffic jam from hell, reckons home-grown stand-up comedian Jason Leong
US President Donald Trump's decision to visit during the ASEAN Summit in October appears to be a feather in Malaysia's diplomatic cap. However, not all Malaysians are so enamoured with the visit of the former TV reality star. One such citizen is well-known stand-up comedian Dr Jason Leong who opined that all roads leading to Kuala Lumpur, including byways, highways and even the small loose bitumen trail leading to your mother's house – will be closed. For a month as well before and after Trump's much ballyhooed visit, projected Leong who gave up his career as a doctor to focus on being a full-time stand-up comedian in 2014. The 40-year-old comic was obviously poking fun at the security measures that will be undertaken to ensure the safety of The Don while he's here. Leong foresees Trumps visit to KL would bring the entire capital city which is often gridlocked anyway to a complete and utter standstill. The post has already generated 1.2K likes, 390 comments and 87 shares at time of publication. Some commenters seemed confused by the need for a US leader to come calling at an ASEAN shindig. More than a few saw the similarities with the pandemic, claiming that the authorities might as well just declare an MCO (movement control order). It'd certainly save the hassle of being stuck in traffic for hours. Better still, just declare public holiday as seems to be the typical SOP (standard operating procedure) in Malaysia. One observer wanted a tit-for-tat response to implementation of US tariffs on Malaysian exports, taxing the special presidential ride (codenamed The Beast). However, one did see a positive side to the whole affair. Malaysians will be getting better roads as the route will be patched up to be good as new. Modifying Trump's much trumpeted 'MAGA' (Making America Great Again) slogan, one commenter declared the US Commander in Chief had come to 'Make ASEAN Great Again'. Finance Ministry confirms no impact on existing EPF withdrawal rights amid new proposal
PETALING JAYA: The Employees Provident Fund's (EPF) proposed shift to a monthly pension payout scheme will not affect the withdrawal rights of existing members, says Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying. She said the new structure, if implemented, would only apply to new EPF contributors, while existing members could voluntarily switch to the new system. Lim explained that the EPF's proposed account restructuring was aimed at ensuring contributors have a more stable and sustainable income stream after retirement. "Under the proposal, members' savings would be divided into two components: one portion that can be withdrawn flexibly at any time, and another that would be paid out gradually over time until fully utilised," she said in a Facebook post on Saturday (2 Aug), Lim said that this was still an early-stage proposal and had not been finalised. She stated that the Madani government remains committed to listening to public feedback and would conduct thorough engagement with stakeholders before making any decisions. 'The objective is to help Malaysians manage their retirement savings in a more structured, fair and sustainable manner,' she said. Previously, the EPF said that any decision regarding the introduction of a monthly pension-style payout scheme would be made only after consultations with key stakeholders and evaluation of the long-term implications. The proposal, which forms part of the government's initiatives under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), was still under review. In the interim, the EPF has confirmed that existing rules and withdrawal mechanisms remain unchanged.
