DeWanna Bonner says she has no regrets about 9-game Fever tenure after landing with Mercury

DeWanna Bonner was the Indiana Fever's loudest addition to its Caitlin Clark-led core in 2025. She wound up playing only nine games before reportedly requesting the team trade or release her. The team granted her the release after failing to find a trade partner, ending her tenure after only nine games, six of which she came off the bench. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Now with the Phoenix Mercury, her old team of 11 years, and playing alongside fiancée Alyssa Thomas, Bonner is set to face the Fever for the first time this season on the road. Speaking with reporters this weekend, Bonner indicated she has no problems with how this season has so far worked out. From the Associated Press: 'I wouldn't do anything differently. I think my journey is my journey and I'm going to accept that,' Bonner said. 'It carried me to where I am now in Phoenix and it happened that way for a reason.' Bonner's time with the Fever began well enough, moving to third on the all-time scoring list in the team's season opener. She was brought in to be the classic veteran addition to a young core, joining the team on a $200,000 unprotected contract in February. As Yahoo Sports' Cassandra Negley broke down at the time of her release, there was nothing but positivity around Bonner as the Fever entered the season. Both Bonner and head coach Stephanie White talked about her being a "puzzle piece" and Clark was seen in the opener urging her teammates to help Bonner reach the scoring milestone. Three games in, however, the Fever pulled Bonner from the starting lineup in favor of Lexie Hull. Six games later, she was announced as out due to "personal reasons" and never played for the team again. Via the AP, she said the change from starter to bench player didn't bother her: 'That wasn't ever the issue, that's never been me,' said Bonner, who has won the WNBA Sixth Woman of the Year award three times. 'I have no problems coming off the bench. I have never been that player. I don't feel like I have that reputation.' Bonner has started only one of her five games with the Mercury this season, while averaging 13.4 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 47.8%, all numbers far better than her limited time with the Fever. Phoenix entered Saturday with the third-best record in the league at 15-9, while Indiana is sixth at 13-12.

Briscoe wins Brickyard 400 pole to earn top starting spot in 3rd straight crown jewel race

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Chase Briscoe became the first driver to win poles at NASCAR's first three crown jewel races in one season Saturday, taking the Brickyard 400 pole with a fast lap of 183.165 mph. His late run bumped Bubba Wallace out of the top starting spot. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver has won nine career poles, five coming this season including those at the Daytona 500, Coca-Cola 600 and now the only race held in Briscoe's home state. He'll have a chance to complete a crown jewel sweep at the Southern 500 in late August. Briscoe has the most pole wins this season, his latest coming on Indianapolis Motor Speedway's 2.5-mile oval. It also came on the same weekend his sister was married in Indiana. Briscoe has never won the Brickyard. Wallace starts next to Briscoe on the front row after posting a lap of 183.117 mph. Those two also led a pack of five Toyotas to the front of the field — marking the first time the engine manufacturer has swept the top five spots. Qualifying was held after a brief, rescheduled practice session. Friday's practice was rained out. Briscoe's teammate, Ty Gibbs, has the early edge in the championship round of NASCAR's first In-Season Challenge. He qualified fifth at 182.445. Ty Dillon starts 26th. The winner will be crowned champion and walk away with $1 million. Last week's race winner Denny Hamlin faces a major hurdle in winning his first Brickyard title. He crashed hard during qualifying and will start from the back of the field, 39th, as he tries to become the fifth driver to complete a career sweep of the Cup's crown jewel races. The 44-year-old Hamlin signed a two-year contract extension with JGR on Friday. Defending race winner Kyle Larson starts 13th. ___ AP auto racing: Michael Marot, The Associated Press

Auction For Caitlin Clark Rookie Card Proves She's A Generational Talent

Auction For Caitlin Clark Rookie Card Proves She's A Generational Talent originally appeared on The Spun. Caitlin Clark doesn't need to be on the hardwood to send basketball fans into a frenzy Unfortunately, Clark has been sidelined since July 15 due to a groin injury. The Indiana Fever announced this week that there's no timetable for her return. It's possible her absence will linger for a whole since the team's priority is "her long-term health and well-being." On Thursday night, the Fever defeated the las Vegas Aces without Clark. They received strong performances from Kelsey Mitchell, Natasha Howard, Sophie Cunningham and Aliyah Boston. While the Fever were taking on the Aces on Thursday night, Fanatics held its Collect's July Premier Auction. There was a one-of-one Caitlin Clark card that received a few very generous bids. When the dust settled, a fan of the Iowa legend bid $660,00 on a 2024 Rookie Royalty WNBA Flawless Logowoman. That makes it the most expensive card of any female athlete. Just to put Clark's popularity and potential into perspective, the previous record for highest-selling women's sports card was $366,000. That was the final price for Clark's 2024 Panini Prizm WNBA Signatures Gold Vinyl Prizm card. From ESPN's report: Another Clark card, also from Panini's recent Rookie Royalty WNBA release, might challenge the newly set record. A 1-of-1 numbered, autographed Clark Logowoman currently sits at $219,600 (with buyer's premium) at Goldin Auctions and is due to enter extended bidding Aug. 9. Suffice to say, Clark is in a league of her own when it comes to popularity for women's athletes. Hopefully, we'll see the former No. 1 pick back on the hardwood For Caitlin Clark Rookie Card Proves She's A Generational Talent first appeared on The Spun on Jul 25, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 25, 2025, where it first appeared.
