Outlander's Sam Heughan taking on London Marathon for special charity

Daily Record25-04-2025

Outlander actor Sam Heughan is taking on the London Marathon this weekend all for a great cause. The Scots star is the founder of My Peak Challenge (MPC) - a movement "dedicated to educating and inspiring its members to live healthier, happier, and more balanced lives while raising funds to change lives". In 2022, Sam raised whopping £590,000 for charity with the help of his organisation MPC. Fellow members - known as Peakers - set themselves a challenge, physical or otherwise, in a bid to raise cash. This year, MPC are raising money for Blood Cancer UK, which is the official charity partner for 2025. So far, Sam has raised over £27,000 and on his JustGiving page he explains exactly what he is raising money for. The page states: "In honour of 10 years of My Peak Challenge, Sam is running the London Marathon 2025 — and he's dedicating every mile to Blood Cancer UK, our official charity partner for this milestone year. "This run is about more than just crossing a finish line. It's about pushing limits, celebrating resilience, and standing up for those impacted by blood cancer. Every mile Sam runs is a reminder that together we can turn challenges into change. "You can sponsor a mile to fuel Sam's run and help us raise life-changing funds for research, support, and hope. "Whether it's mile 3 or mile 23, your donation carries him forward — and brings us all closer to beating blood cancer sooner. We'll shout out Peakers on socials as Sam progresses on the day, and you may even get a thank you from Sam himself! "1 in 3 people don't survive their blood cancer and we lose them in the first five years after diagnosis. Too many people are dying from the most complex and aggressive forms of blood cancer - blood cancers that are the hardest to treat. "We believe it's possible to achieve significant shifts in survival, by making sure that all patients have access to the right drug at the right time. Our focus on the hardest to treat blood cancers will accelerate progress towards our goal of radical improvements in outcomes for these patients and bring forward the day when we beat blood cancer." You can donate to Sam's page here. This is Sam's sixth marathon and earlier this week the Outlander star took part in a Glasgow pilates class. The Jamie Fraser actor headed along to the pilates studio in Park Circus to stretch out ahead of his 42km run this weekend through the streets of London. Sharing Sam in action, Lyle Pilates Instagram page - based in the west end of the city - penned: "Getting marathon ready again with @samheughan …number 6! To everyone counting down the days till London masssssive luck to you all and enjoy the day! Lonneke xx."

Sam Thompson 'crying into beer' with Pete Wicks after Zara McDermott split

Cheeky chappies Sam Thompson and Pete Wicks have become one of the best-loved duos in showbiz, thanks to their ongoing bromance. As they celebrate their hilarious podcast Staying Relevant winning its first ever prize at this year's TRIC Awards, the pair, who first met on Celebs Go Dating in 2018, stop for an exclusive interview, during which they tell us their close friendship is all down to mutual trust. 'That's the thing, I trust him with my life,' Pete, 37, says of his 32-year-old bestie. The lads are both single for the first time in several years following Sam's recent split from Zara McDermott, who he was dating for five years, and the end of Pete's whirlwind romance with Maura Higgins back in February, so we're keen to find out if they'll be wingmen for each other this summer. Here, the pals also tell us how it feels to finally receive an award for their podcast and why Pete thinks Sam makes him a better man... Work with your best mate! Honestly, it's so easy. There's nothing more to it than that. You know what? In all seriousness, I think the secret is to have total trust in the other person. I think that's the thing, I trust him with my life. I'm blessed to have the awards and all the rest of it is great, but if I wasn't in this industry and we weren't doing our podcast and we were doing normal jobs, Sam would still be my brother. No! We haven't had one massive argument, ever, in our whole friendship. That's pretty good, isn't it? It's true. Happy wife, happy life. Sam is always upbeat, he's literally the light behind everything we do. I'm the miserable darkness and the shade! Sam makes me a better person and is genuinely always this happy. Pete's a happy boy tonight, though. Look at that smile! True, I've had a lot to drink though and that might be contributing. Ha ha, good question. We're going to spend time together this summer, but we'll probably just cry into our beers. That's all. We won't say any more on that front. I'm over the moon. We've never won anything in our entire lives! Well, Sam, you won the bloody jungle, but me, I've never won anything. I genuinely can't believe it. We're a pair of useless numpties so this is just so mad to me. Our podcast has been up for so many awards over the years and we've never won, so we had no expectation tonight at all. We actually came in a limo thinking it would be ironic for the losers to go home in a flashy limo, but now it's going to look like we knew we were going to win. Definitely not, I wouldn't say so. We've spent over a decade in this industry and we're still a couple of wallies. I don't think we'll ever be relevant really. Sam has tried though, bless him. He's even got a mullet. That's true. I've dyed it, too. It was a bit of a sandy colour before. I'm truly pulling out all the stops to be relevant. I've not quite got Pete's luscious locks to work with, though. In all seriousness, I want to say that, Sam, I'm really proud of you and you're my best mate. Recording the podcast is my favourite day of the week because I spend it with you. We've just sold out the 02! That was a pretty big goal. Yeah, we're performing the podcast at the 02 in September. Can you believe it? At the end of our tour last year Sam told me we needed to do the 02, but we didn't think it would actually happen. Now it has and we honestly couldn't be more excited about it. We've got a book coming out too, but we can't tell you much about it. You'll just have to buy it. There'll be lots of pictures, a bit like Where's Wally! The Mirror spoke to Sam and Pete at the TRIC Awards, partnered with OK!

Fury as abuser Chris Brown gets to play Hampden while Kneecap axed from TRNSMT

Chris Brown will perform to thousands of fans at Scotland's national stadium on Tuesday despite his history of assault and domestic violence. Women's groups are furious that convicted domestic abuser Chris Brown will play Hampden – while Irish rappers Kneecap were axed from TRNSMT. R'n'B star Brown, 36, will perform to thousands of fans at Scotland's national stadium on Tuesday despite his history of assault and domestic violence. ‌ In 2009, Brown was sentenced to five years probation and community service for attacking ex Rihanna. The Bajan star was pictured with a split lip after Brown hit her. ‌ The move came after calls by John Swinney to axe the Irish hip hop act, with the First Minister saying the political rhetoric 'crossed the line'. Kneecap band member Mo Chara was charged with a terror offence over allegedly displaying a Hezbollah flag at a gig in London last November. Jenni Snell, CEO of Scotland's Young Women's Movement, said: 'It is deeply disappointing that performers with histories of violence against women are able to play major, national venues like Hampden Park. 'With the recent context of Kneecap being dropped by TRNSMT following controversy sparked by a political campaign against them, we are forced to question why a known domestic abuser playing a major Glasgow venue has not generated any controversy whatsoever. ‌ 'When you consider TRNSMT and Chris Brown's UK tour are run by the same promoter, it's only right these double standards are scrutinised.' Scots promoter DF Concerts –behind next month's TRNSMT festival in Glasgow Green – is a subsidiary of Live Nation which is organising Brown's tour. The singer has been able to continue performing despite appearing in court this month over an alleged bottle attack against a man at a London nightclub in 2023. ‌ Brown has pleaded not guilty and was freed on conditional bail. Domestic abuse charity Glasgow Women's Aid accused the entertainment industry of repeatedly 'turning a blind eye' to violence against women. The group said: 'Kneecap were recently removed from a UK festival line-up because of political views. They were deemed too controversial and dropped from the bill. Yet artists accused of repeated violence against women continue to tour, headline and profit with little pushback. ‌ 'Promoters, venues and sponsors claim to stand against violence against women but continue to hand a mic to men who harm.' Male Allies Challenging Sexism (MACS), which has been running its #NoAbusersOnStage campaign since 2023, said: 'Chris Brown's booking at Hampden underlines how accepted male violence against women is in our society. ‌ "Within the music industry and the general public the vast majority of people won't care enough about Chris Brown being a violent abuser. Promoters and venues will be more interested in making money and his fans will care more about his music than his 'past actions'." Snell added: 'We're currently seeing a rise in sexism across society, driven by misogynistic influencers, celebrities and politicians in an increasingly vitriolic landscape… ‌ 'We need to be mindful of the message we send to young women about how they are valued in society when domestic abusers are celebrated, and of the message this sends to young men too.' Glasgow City Council said its role is to 'ensure events are safe and properly organised', adding: 'Any issues in relation to an act performing at an event are a matter for the promoter of the event.' DF Concerts, Brown and Kneecap were contacted for comment.

The Scot suffered from tics and struggled to finish his hit Somebody You Loved, and soon after announced a break to get his "physical and mental health in order" and "adjust to the impact" of his Tourette's diagnosis. But the 28-year-old made a return to the festival on Friday night, drawing a big crowd despite not having been on the initial lineup. He said: "Glastonbury, it's so good to be back. "I'm not going to say much up here today because if I did I might start crying." And fans watching on TV spotted a nod to the star's favourite football team Celtic, as cameras showed spare guitar plectrums featuring the four-leaf clover seen on the Hoops' badge. The crowd in attendance reacted positively to the set, singing along in moments Capaldi rested his voice and chanting his name. The West Lothian star ended the set with Somebody You Loved, the song he didn't manage to complete in his previous appearance. He said: "I couldn't sing this song two years ago. "I might struggle to finish it today for different reasons, good reasons." Moment Lewis Capaldi left speechless after diehard fan serenades him in the pub (v2) And celebrities and fans alike rushed to the singer's Instagram post to congratulate him on his comeback. Scotland national team captain Andy Robertson commented: "Class mate." Fellow musical star Sam Fender said: "Return of the king." Other football stars like Jack Grealish, Alan Shearer and Ben Chilwell, and fellow musicians Olly Murs and Jade Thirlwall also commented their congratulations.
