Sam Thompson 'crying into beer' with Pete Wicks after Zara McDermott split

Daily Mirror15 hours ago

Cheeky chappies Sam Thompson and Pete Wicks have become one of the best-loved duos in showbiz, thanks to their ongoing bromance. As they celebrate their hilarious podcast Staying Relevant winning its first ever prize at this year's TRIC Awards, the pair, who first met on Celebs Go Dating in 2018, stop for an exclusive interview, during which they tell us their close friendship is all down to mutual trust.
'That's the thing, I trust him with my life,' Pete, 37, says of his 32-year-old bestie. The lads are both single for the first time in several years following Sam's recent split from Zara McDermott, who he was dating for five years, and the end of Pete's whirlwind romance with Maura Higgins back in February, so we're keen to find out if they'll be wingmen for each other this summer. Here, the pals also tell us how it feels to finally receive an award for their podcast and why Pete thinks Sam makes him a better man...
Work with your best mate! Honestly, it's so easy. There's nothing more to it than that.
You know what? In all seriousness, I think the secret is to have total trust in the other person. I think that's the thing, I trust him with my life. I'm blessed to have the awards and all the rest of it is great, but if I wasn't in this industry and we weren't doing our podcast and we were doing normal jobs, Sam would still be my brother.
No! We haven't had one massive argument, ever, in our whole friendship. That's pretty good, isn't it?
It's true. Happy wife, happy life.
Sam is always upbeat, he's literally the light behind everything we do. I'm the miserable darkness and the shade! Sam makes me a better person and is genuinely always this happy.
Pete's a happy boy tonight, though. Look at that smile!
True, I've had a lot to drink though and that might be contributing.
Ha ha, good question.
We're going to spend time together this summer, but we'll probably just cry into our beers. That's all. We won't say any more on that front.
I'm over the moon. We've never won anything in our entire lives!
Well, Sam, you won the bloody jungle, but me, I've never won anything. I genuinely can't believe it. We're a pair of useless numpties so this is just so mad to me.
Our podcast has been up for so many awards over the years and we've never won, so we had no expectation tonight at all. We actually came in a limo thinking it would be ironic for the losers to go home in a flashy limo, but now it's going to look like we knew we were going to win.
Definitely not, I wouldn't say so. We've spent over a decade in this industry and we're still a couple of wallies. I don't think we'll ever be relevant really. Sam has tried though, bless him. He's even got a mullet.
That's true. I've dyed it, too. It was a bit of a sandy colour before. I'm truly pulling out all the stops to be relevant. I've not quite got Pete's luscious locks to work with, though.
In all seriousness, I want to say that, Sam, I'm really proud of you and you're my best mate. Recording the podcast is my favourite day of the week because I spend it with you.
We've just sold out the 02! That was a pretty big goal.
Yeah, we're performing the podcast at the 02 in September. Can you believe it? At the end of our tour last year Sam told me we needed to do the 02, but we didn't think it would actually happen. Now it has and we honestly couldn't be more excited about it. We've got a book coming out too, but we can't tell you much about it. You'll just have to buy it.
There'll be lots of pictures, a bit like Where's Wally!

Dumped Love Island star says DMs are flooded with celebs after leaving villa

Blu Chegini, who was dumped from the Love Island villa this month, says that some famous faces have slid into his DMs since leaving and accuses ITV of not showing his true personality. Dumped Love Island star Blu Chegini has revealed that his DM's are 'popping' since leaving the famous ITV2 villa, and there's even a few famous names in there. Talking with Mirror at the TRIC Awards in central London, 26-year-old Blu admitted, "It's been a bit mad since I left the villa, the DMs have been busy though, they're popping." He added, "There's been a few famous ones, but I better not say who." ‌ Despite being in the original line-up of islanders at the beginning of this series, Blu was dumped from the island earlier this month in a brutal recoupling which left him single. Before his departure, he was getting to know girls Alima and Shakira, who remain in the villa. ‌ Since returning home, Blu's Instagram has reached 22K followers - including the likes of former Love Island winners Jess Harding and Gabby Allen and Married At First Sight star Hannah Norburn. He has also signed to Neon Managment, the same PR company who manages stars such as Joey Essex and Lucinda Stratford. While there may be plenty of single girls hoping to catch London-based Blu's eye back in the UK, the reality star still has eyes for Mallorca. Admitting the premature departure was disappointing, Blu said he'd like another crack at the famous villa: 'Get me back in there, I'd definitely go back and show my personality more, I didn't get to do that. "I did show it in the villa but it wasn't aired in the episodes, so I'd like people to get to know me and see what I'm really about. I want ITV to fly me out for Casa Amor.' ‌ Describing his type as Poppy Harrison, who was only on the show for two days as she attempted to turn Remell's head at the Sleepover villa, Blu says the bombshell is exactly who he was waiting to enter the villa for himself. However, if the Construction Project Manager doesn't make it back to Mallorca before the end of the series, he's hoping for one of his fellow OG islanders to win the series. 'I want Tommy to win, I'm not sure who he'll be partnered with, but I'd like him to win.' Blu also weighed in on the villa drama after Toni and Emily recently came to blows, admitting he thinks Emily is a 'sweet girl' and doesn't know why there's been a war of words between the pair.

Kerry Katona shows true colours in relationship with Celebs Go Dating boyfriend

Kerry Katona has been hitting headlines after her rumoured boyfriend, Paolo Margaglione's ex spoke about their relationship - but a source says it's like 'water off a duck's back' to her Kerry Katona has come under fire after her hunky new partner's ex accused her of stealing her man. Mum-of-five Kerry has been in a love bubble with personal trainer Paolo Margaglione, 33, after meeting him on Celebs Go Dating in May. But Paolo's ex, Jessica Smith, 25, claims she was already in a relationship with the dad-of-two – and completely unaware he was filming the dating show, as OK! reports. 'He lied to me the entire time we were together. It was horrendous,' said Jessica, who is a warehouse manager from Holmfirth, Yorkshire. I do not believe that he has one single feeling for Kerry. He only cares about fame and he'll be happy he's now being put out there.' ‌ ‌ Devastated Jessica spoke out after seeing snaps of Kerry, 44, and Paolo kissing outside a London hotel. She claims he 'repeatedly lied' about taking part in the show – which also stars Love Island 's Olivia Hawkins and The Chase's Mark Labbett – and that he told her he was travelling to London for business meetings when he was in fact filming scenes with smitten Kerry. But a source close to the former Atomic Kitten star, who is keeping tight-lipped over the furore, has said that after experiencing her fair share of romantic betrayals herself, she would never knowingly make a move on another woman's man. 'She's ben telling people, 'I'm not a man-stealer' and it's not something nice to be accused of, but she knows her truth and won't let it ruin things,' the source said. 'Kerry isn't going to let anyone rain on her parade.' Jess went on to claim that Paolo, who she started dating after he contacted her on Instagram, continued to send her loved-up messages while he was filming the E4 reality show, even telling her he wanted to marry her. But Paolo, who has two daughters from a previous relationship, denies any wrongdoing. 'I was never in a relationship with Jess,' he said. 'We only met up around five times. I was honest with her that I had been offered to go on a dating show and if it were to come to fruition, I would take the opportunity.' ‌ He continued, 'I made it clear to Jess that we had to stop talking and seeing each other as I had been offered to go on the show. I have nothing bad to say about Jess – she's a great girl.' Kerry's rumoured new romance comes eight months after her shock split from her former fiancé Ryan Mahoney, who she dated for six years. The pair met online and lived together in Cheshire, with personal trainer Ryan proposing to Kerry in 2020. The relationship broke down last November and Kerry later revealed they had parted over a 'breach of trust'. She said at the time, 'We are no longer together and it's been a really tough week. I never in a million years thought this would happen.' ‌ Three-times-married Kerry wed her first husband, Westlife star Brian McFadden, in 2002 and they have two daughters, Molly, 23, and Lilly-Sue, 22. She went on to marry taxi driver Mark Croft, welcoming daughter Heidi, 18, and son Max, 17, before the relationship crumbled after three years together. In 2014, she tied the knot with George Kay, the father of her youngest daughter Dylan-Jorge, 11. Tragically, former rugby league player George died in 2019 following a drug overdose. ‌ Celebrity Big Brother star Kerry is certainly no stranger to drama when it comes to her love life, but the sourcesays she has 'learnt the hard way' when it comes to fame-hungry partners and won't be fooled again. 'She's felt that betrayal,' the source said. 'But she's got a smart head on her shoulders and she's totally happy and comfortable with Paolo. 'She has never felt or looked better, and a hunky man was really the only thing missing from her life. She's making good money and everything is on her terms. She's not being controlled or led by anyone.'
