Chloe Kelly had her name up in lights as she scored the winning penalty for the Lionesses but the England women's star has been called cocky by the Spanish media England hero Chloe Kelly has been labelled "cocky" by the Spanish media as her celebrations are criticised. The Arsenal winger smashed home the winning penalty to deliver Euros success for the Lionesses. It was the second time in succession they've claimed European glory but Kelly's antics have not gone down well with foreign media. They claim that her celebration in front of La Roja stopper Cata Coll was "unnecessary". They say that Kelly, who scored the winner in England's 2022 Euros final win over Germany, diverted her path after scoring from 12 yards and made a gesture in front of the keeper, as is claimed by Spanish outlet Dario AS. They wrote: "This is unnecessary, my friend: Kelly's cocky gesture to Cata Coll after scoring the decisive penalty. The England specialist changed her run during her penalty celebration to get past the goalkeeper she had just beaten." It comes after Kelly made a b-line for the England supporters in the corner, but that was described as "cocky" and uncalled-for. Kelly came off the bench for the Euros final and produced some historic contributions. Before scoring her penalty she assisted Alessia Russo's 57th-minute equaliser that cancelled out Mariona Caldentey's opener for Spain. Kelly had missed a penalty in the semi-final win over Italy, scoring the rebound, and was adamant history wouldn't repeat itself. She said: "I was adamant I wasn't missing two on the bounce. I was cool, I was composed. I knew I was going to hit the back of the net. I don't miss penalties twice." The 27-year-old feared her England hopes were disappearing as she struggled for form and minutes whilst at Manchester City. Kelly eventually signed for Arsenal on loan in January, and made her move permanent in July, which saw her get back to her best and land some career milestones. "If that's a story to tell someone maybe experiencing something the same - tough times don't last," she said. "Just around the corner was a Champions League final, won that, and now a Euros final, won that." Kelly hailed the influence of her manager, Sarina Wiegman, as she said: "She gave me hope when I probably didn't have any. She gave me an opportunity to represent my country again." Ajax star makes feelings clear amid 'difficult' transfer negotiations with Chelsea
Chelsea are keen to sign a new left-back to challenge Marc Cucurella and have opened talks with Ajax to sign 19-year-old star Jorrel Hato, who sat out of their game on Sunday Jorrel Hato asked to be left out of Ajax's friendly against Como on the weekend because he's in negotiations to join Chelsea. Hato has been eyed by a number of Premier League sides this summer after catching the eye of scouts and Chelsea are in pole position to sign him. The 19-year-old defender, who can play at centre-back and left-back, has already made 111 appearances for the Dutch giants. He still has three years left on his contract with Ajax, but it now seems likely he will leave this summer. Liverpool and Arsenal have both been credited with interest in the youngster whose versatility and experience make him an attractive prospect. Ajax are braced for his exit after Hato made it clear to head coach John Heitinga that he would rather not play against on Sunday. That's according to Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, who report that negotiations with Chelsea remain 'difficult' despite the player's desire to leave. Ajax are understood to be seeking a fee of between €55-60million (£48m-£52.5m) for Hato, while Chelsea are aiming for a figure closer to £40m. Hato has now missed two straight pre-season matches for Ajax, having also sat out of the previous game against Celtic. Heitinga had claimed his first absence was due to a lack of match fitness, but it is clear that more is going on. Chelsea want a left-back to challenge Marc Cucurella, with Ben Chilwell, Renato Veiga and Ishe Samuels-Smith all leaving this summer. They opened negotiations for the 2024/25 Eredivisie Talent of the Season last week and are hoping to progress them this week. 'Yes, the club [Chelsea] have contacted Ajax,' Hato's agent Humphry Nijman told De Telegraaf on Wednesday. Hato appears to have changed his tune over the past month, having previously declared himself to be 'at home' in Amsterdam. He played 50 times last season as Ajax came up just short of rivals PSV Eindhoven in the league and appeared determined to kick on. 'The smartest thing is to look ahead to pre-season, that's what I do,' Hato told the club website. 'Of course you want to achieve things in the end: the Champions League, a World Cup and a European Championship, I still have plenty of time. I don't think I absolutely have to win the Champions League in two years. 'In the Dutch league, you have to show how good you are against the big clubs. Ultimately, I have to continue to develop the things I am already good at, so that it becomes top. How do I describe my time at Ajax? Ajax is home for me. I just feel at home here.'

Ex-Rangers coach reflects on ‘amazing' return to club as he's spotted back at Ibrox for first time since sacking

Russell Martin's side welcomed English Championship outfit Middlesbrough to Govan for their final friendly clash of the summer. The Gers boss was able to give a number of squad players minutes but they failed to really stake a claim as they fell 2-0 down. Goals from Danilo and Findlay Curtis levelled things up as the entertaining clash finished 2-2. It's a new era for Boro too with Rob Edwards now in charge. The former Luton boss, whose name was linked to the Rangers vacancy at one point in time, has replaced Michael Carrick as boss. Alongside Edwards in the dugout at Ibrox on Saturday was a familiar face. Harry Watling previously worked as first team coach at Rangers and is now an assistant at Boro. Watling, 35, was a key part of Michael Beale's staff at the Light Blues during his rather ill-fated spell as boss. He'd previously worked with him at QPR. That decision came after a horror start to the 2023/24 season. After leaving Ibrox, Watling landed the managerial role at Ebbsfleet United in September in 2024 but departed after only three months after one win in 13. He returned to football last month when he landed the key role alongside Edwards at Boro. Saturday's friendly clash offered Watling the first chance to return to Ibrox since his dismissal. And it's fair to say he enjoyed it. On Instagram, Watling said: "It was amazing to go back to Ibrox for the first time again yesterday. "A huge shout-out to the 8,000 @theboroofficial fans who made it electric. "So nice to see some old faces too from staff to players. "Thank you to everyone for making it such a warm welcome back. "Excited to begin another huge season." Middlesbrough face local rivals Hartlepool away from home in a friendly this Wednesday before taking on Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna at home on Saturday. The real stuff starts for them the following weekend with a home clash against Swansea to open the Championship season. For Rangers, the real stuff has of course already started. The Gers head to Athens to take on Panathinaikos in the second leg of their Champions League second round qualifier on Wednesday.
