Jenny Powell, 57, spills the truth behind her age-defying looks

Daily Mirror21-06-2025
EXCLUSIVE: Jenny Powell has been a fixture on our screens for more than three decades - and she's barely aged a day and now the TV star tells us how she keeps looking so youthful
Jenny Powell is the TV face that simply does not age — and now she's finally lifted the lid on exactly how she keeps looking so fresh-faced at 57 (only just!), from high-tech blood treatments to the teen daughter who keeps her feeling twenty years younger.
Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, the presenter - who first won hearts on Wheel of Fortune and is now hosting the Rewind Festival - laughs off her reputation as Britain's forever-youthful TV darling.

'People always say to me: 'Oh my God, you haven't aged!'' Jenny giggles. 'I go to a few people for remedies and treatments, and I said to one of them, what should I tell people? He said, 'Well, some of it's your genes, Jenny — but you do look after yourself!' And I suppose I do.'

Yoga, a sprinkle of magic vitamins — and a bit of 21st century science, too. Jenny, who lives in South Manchester with fiancé Martin Lowe, 51, and their youngest daughter Pollyanna, 16, says it's a mix of ancient and cutting-edge secrets keeping her glowing.
'I do hot yoga about three times a week and I've just started Reformer too — it really keeps my mind and body in shape,' she says. 'I don't drink much, but I'm taking NAD now — I love it! It basically regenerates your cells after your 40s. I have it intravenously, which is pricey, about £300 a pop, but you feel amazing after. Then you switch to supplements to keep it up. It's fascinating stuff!'
And the ultimate fountain of youth? Her teenage daughter Pollyanna. 'My kids keep me young. I've got a 24-year-old, but I had Pollyanna when I was like 40, 41. So I've still got a 16-year-old at 57. I have to keep up with her for a start! So I think it's just a combo of that. Just looking after yourself. Yoga's amazing for me."
But behind the glam facade, Jenny admits it hasn't all been plain sailing. Last year, she made headlines when she spoke candidly about her life-changing hysterectomy - an Instagram post about it racked up a whopping two and a half million views in just 24 hours, sparking a wave of support.
'It was awful,' she says honestly. 'Yeah, it was awful. I had really bad symptoms, which I'd put up with for a very long time, like flooding terribly, like really badly. And migraines. I had backache. I had pelvic congestion, basically, because my uterus was the size of being 14 to 16 weeks pregnant. So it was enlarged. And it had fibroids and I had adenomyosis*(corr), which I didn't even know existed, which is sort of on the outer lining of your uterus."

Adenomyosis is a condition where the tissue that normally lines the uterus (endometrium) grows into the muscular wall of the uterus (myometrium). This misplaced tissue continues to behave like normal uterine lining, thickening and bleeding during each menstrual cycle, which can cause heavy, painful periods, and pelvic pain.
Today, mental health is top of her list - alongside making time for Martin, who she describes as her rock. 'He's so kind. And I think you're very conscious when you've got kids already. I mean, he hasn't got any kids. I think you're very conscious about who's going to come into the house and the home and get to know your family.

'You're very, very cautious. And he just adores the girls and he always has, Polly was two, three years old when we met and she's now 16. Polly was, she's 24 and she was like nine. I think it's his kindness I fell for. He can't help himself. He just thinks he can fix everyone. He's one of those. And of course, he is gorgeous!"
Jenny has learned to prioritise herself as well as her loved ones - and she hopes other women will too. 'If your thoughts get the better of you first thing in the morning, you've had it for the rest of the day. So it's really having your own little mantras or something to the minute you wake up, you set your mindset in the right place.
'So, you know, even if it's singing your favourite song first thing when you wake up, putting frequencies on or repeating something three times, whatever it is that uplifts you, do it. Do it. Don't go on your bloody phone!"

As she gears up to take the mic at this summer's Rewind Festival - and maybe even tackle the Strictly ballroom one day if bosses come calling again — Jenny says she's in no rush to slow down even as she turns 60 in three years.
"I'm going to own it. Will I still be in a bikini, that's the question! Of course I will be! I think I'll still be in a bikini in my 60s, but if I'm not, I'm just trying to think why I wouldn't be! That's what we're trying to inspire women to do. It doesn't matter what people say, well, it's what is right for you. As long as I can do some yoga on the beach somewhere, I'll be happy," she beams.
Cheers to that Jenny!

Georgia Toffolo slammed over her ‘controversial' wedding tips for 2025 brides – from £2 flowers to DIY cake

GEORGIA Toffolo has been slammed for insulting local businesses after sharing her "controversial" wedding tips for 2025 brides. The former Made In Chelsea star, 30, tired the knot with Brewdog founder James Watt, 42, in March and won praise from fans for the low-key celebrations - despite their huge wealth. 3 Georgia Toffolo and James Watt tied the knot at a ceremony in Aberdeenshire Credit: Instagram/Georgia Toffolo 3 The couple had a very low-key ceremony Credit: PA 3 Toff shared some of her 'controversial' wedding tips on social media Credit: Instagram While Toff is thought to be a millionaire many times over herself thanks to reality TV and presenting work, James is said to have a net worth of more than £250million. But the TV beauty has now been accused of "ruffling feathers" after urging brides to ditch florists and cake makers in favour of £2 supermarket flowers and DIY sweet treats. In an Instagram post accompanying a video of her intimate wedding ceremony, Toff said: "Controversial? Maybe. Honest? 100%. Pieces of REAL advice I'd give to a 2025 bride." She insisted that wedding cakes are a "complete waste of money" while flowers are "overpriced and overrated". Revealing her money-saving alternatives, she added: "We had the children bake ours [cake] that morning. No fancy tiers, no overpriced price tag. Just made with pure love. Best decision ever. "I [also] grabbed daffodils straight out of the vase on our kitchen table, and you know what? They were perfect. £2 from the supermarket and not a single florist in sight." Her Instagram video, shared with her 1.8million followers, quickly racked up 1.5million views. But some people were left fuming that her tips seemingly urged people to snub "hard-working and talented" local vendors. One said: "Whilst the sentiment of your post is spot on; 'your day, your way', I do think you have slightly missed the mark here. "Especially describing floristry and wedding cakes as overpriced and not necessary. Both professions are very female founder heavy & I think it's a real shame to use your platform to describe the incredibly hard work and talent-driven work of those women as overpriced and unnecessary. BrewDog's James Watt & fiance Toff branded 'unbearable' after latest confession "Your DIY wedding is beautiful because that's what you wanted, but let's not diminish the incredible talent, skill and hard work of the women within the wedding industry." A second blasted: "So instead of spending a few quid of our vast wealth to support local, female-led businesses, I am instead going to tell my almost 2 million followers that what they do is pointless and they're charging too much for their art and skill. "Considering what you charge for an hours appearance, tell me, who is pointless and overpriced here…?" A third chimed in: "As an influencer and privileged person, she has tripped up on this one… this has ruffled more than industry leaders' feathers." A fourth echoed: "I feel like you can say this as you have the privilege of experiencing luxury at any given time, for the absolute majority of people their wedding day is the one day in a lifetime when they may choose to spend a little extra to experience the finer things in life." And a fifth agreed: "You have the benefit of choice and grew up extremely privileged, for most couples their wedding day is the only time they can afford and save for that level of luxury." The I'm a Celebrity winner went on to claim that couples shouldn't spend the morning apart on their wedding day, and the guest list should be small as it's "not a networking event". She also hit out at child-free weddings and insisted that children "add magic, not mess" and said there's "no need for a three-course meal". Toff rounded off her wedding guide by concluding: "You don't have to change your surname Tradition is optional, your identity isn't." And many social media users, despite the backlash, praised her for low-key wedding decisions. One said: "I've said it once and will say it again. Please please never change. You are a breath of fresh air and so on point with outlook on life." "Love this Georgia Toffolo, well said. Weddings are about individuality and not about 'rules'", added someone else. A third wrote: "Totally agree!! You both look so happy and content that's what it's all about!" "I absolutely could not love this more", cried a fourth. Meanwhile, a fifth added: "Good for you Georgia! Agree with everything you said. Yours sounded just perfect." Guests received just 48 hours' notice of the surprise nuptials where Toff and James' spaniel, Monty, acted as ring bearer. The couple, who started dating in 2023, 'eloped' after a ceremony which took place in a small church in the coastal village where fewer than 600 people live. James's two daughters from his previous marriage to illustrator Johanna Basford were bridesmaids in Gardenstown, Aberdeenshire.

Tom Kerridge's 'easy' diet change that helped him lose 11 stone

Tom Kerridge is back on our screen in his new ITV series Tom Kerridge Cooks Spain Tom Kerridge, the celebrity chef, is back on telly this Thursday evening (July 24) with a brand new ITV series that takes him on a culinary journey through Spain. ‌ The 51-year-old embarks on a road trip in northern Spain to meet local food producers who share his passion for fresh ingredients and cooking. ‌ Throughout the programme, Tom delves into Spanish cuisine and culture, cooking up a feast using local produce and offering tips on how to recreate the dishes at home. ‌ He'll discover the link between Santona and anchovies, and meet the locals, including fishermen and women who keep the town's traditions alive. Away from the limelight, Tom has made significant changes to his health in recent years due to fears about his mortality. The Michelin-starred chef, known for tantalising the nation with delicious dishes on Saturday Kitchen and Great British Menu, has now revealed the secret behind his impressive weight loss, reports Devon Live. ‌ Alongside giving up alcohol and incorporating exercise into his daily routine, Tom experienced a remarkable transformation. He has shared that his diet included eating vegetables, tinned beans and eggs, as well as cutting out sugar to curb his snacking habits. "Over three years, I lost eleven stone and devised my own low-carb diet regime built around ingredients that are known to trigger the release of dopamine, the 'happy hormone' in your brain," Tom previously shared on his website. ‌ He continued: "If you're struggling with your weight and need to shift unhealthy pounds, this approach makes it easy, and is guaranteed to make you feel happier in the process." The life-altering transformation has prompted the celebrity chef to encourage families to dedicate more time to preparing nutritious home-cooked meals. ‌ Tom has pointed to his own remarkable 11-stone weight loss as motivation for others looking to drop the pounds, achieving his results through a straightforward dietary adjustment. The Gloucester-born chef, who previously admitted to beginning drinking sessions with a pint of Negroni cocktail before consuming 15 pints on an ordinary evening, chose to give up alcohol at 40 or risk not making it to 50. ‌ He told The Mirror in 2020: "I stopped drinking all by myself. I knew what I wanted to do and then I got on with it. It was all about mental strength. "I have an addictive personality. People ask me whether I'm an alcoholic, but I think it could have been anything, it's just that alcohol was the thing I found. Maybe I am an alcoholic, I don't know." Tom added: "Some days are really, really hard and some days are easy. Most of the time it's not relevant in my life. I channel all that old drinking energy into work now." ‌ Speaking recently to Lisa Snowdon and Andy Goldstein on the We're Not Getting Any Younger podcast, Tom looked back on his choice to quit drinking more than a decade ago due to health concerns. Offering a candid glimpse into his personal life, the 51 year old explained that his terror of perishing before reaching 50 prompted him to make the dramatic choice to give up booze entirely. He explained: "I'm absolutely loving the way that I'm living but I can't (carry on). It is going to end and it will all end really really badly, so I just stopped." Alongside his television fame, Tom has also built a thriving empire with his string of eateries.

It was created, written and directed by African filmmaker Kemi Adetiba, who hails from Lagos where the show is set. ‌ According to the synopsis, the eight-part drama follows a struggling father, enticed into the lucrative world of cyber crime and ends up faces a moral minefield where every choice leads him to greater compromises. Many fans have shared their thoughts and recommendations online. One posted: "I think this is the best Nigerian series I have seen in a very long time. There are more than 1001 lessons to learn from this packed series. At some point, you will wish the series will never end." ‌ Another added: "The title of this series caught my eye. I decided to watch a little of the first episode to see how it was. I am completely hooked! From the first scene, the acting and story line is riveting! I binged all episodes in two nights." Meanwhile, someone else shared on IMDB: "A rare gem that offers a refreshing dose of realism. Unlike many others that feel like stitched-up fiction or just another cash grab, this one gets it right. The acting is believable, the storyline is consistent, and the cast delivers with heart. You can tell the team cared deeply about what they were creating-there's passion, attention to detail, and an honest effort to reflect real life." ‌ One viewer claimed: "Amazing acting and the storyline is explosive. I was on the edge of my seat every episode." While another replied: "I'm sorry the acting in To Kill A Monkey is phenomenal. These are actors! This is what you get when you cast people who have acted on stage. This is good!" ‌ Adetiba has already shared a message of thanks on Instagram to thank for the support and viewers the show has received so far. Clearly pleased with the impact the title is having on Netflix, she wrote: "To Kill A Monkey is unlike anything I've ever done. It was a crazy risk to take, but it was a story I strongly felt I needed to tell – no gloss, no theatrics, no grandiose characters to hide behind. Just a raw, human story about real people with real struggles, trying to navigate impossible choices." She continued: "On behalf of the entire TKAM team – thank you. For watching. For talking. For caring. For showing up in the most powerful way possible. We're humbled…We're overwhelmed by the love…We're grateful beyond words."
