South Batinah records over 17t of wheat production

Muscat Daily09-06-2025
Muscat – South Batinah governorate has produced more than 17 tonnes of wheat this year, with over 80 feddans of land cultivated across its wilayats, according to the Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries, and Water Resources.
The initiative is part of the government's ongoing efforts to enhance food security in the sultanate, with wheat identified as a strategic crop.
Eng Abdullah bin Saif al Saidi, Director of the Agricultural Development Department in South Batinah, said the ministry has implemented several programmes to support wheat cultivation.
'These include research to develop wheat varieties suitable for Oman's climate, as well as providing farmers with seeds and post-planting technical supervision,' he said.
More than 2.5 tonnes of wheat seeds were distributed to over 60 farmers across the governorate.
Saidi added that the 'Wheat Harvest' programme remains one of the ministry's most important services, offered free of charge. It provides harvesting equipment and specialised staff to assist farmers during the harvest season.
Eng Sawsan bint Talib al Khanbashiya, head of the Date Palm and Plant Production Section, said the wheat seed project plays a key role in advancing food security efforts in the region.
'Our team continues to follow up with farmers through field visits and technical guidance throughout the planting season until harvest,' she said.
The ministry's support for wheat cultivation reflects a wider national strategy to promote sustainable agriculture and ensure long-term food resilience.

NFL star admits Eagles still haunt Commanders after brutal NFC Championship Game blowout

The NFC East is setting up to have some incredible battles between the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Commanders for many years to come. Jalen Hurts and the Eagles are coming off of a tremendous season that included a Super Bowl championship, while Jayden Daniels helped guide the Commanders to their first NFC Championship Game in three decades. Unfortunately for Daniels though, his team suffered a humiliating loss to the Birds back in January, and the young quarterback admits that it still haunts him months later. Daniels was certainly one of the best rookies in 2024, and quite honestly, one of the most impressive debut quarterbacks in recent NFL history, but it's clear that the Eagles have a huge psychological advantage over their division rival heading into this season. For the Commanders, they can't feel too awful about Philly's 55-23 victory at Lincoln Financial Field though because Jalen Hurts and the Eagles simply ran through most teams they faced in the playoffs last season. That included another brutal takedown of the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, which didn't see Patrick Mahomes and Co. put up a single point on Vic Fangio's defense until the third quarter. Perturbed Caitlin Clark fans worry about re-injury over bench behavior

Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark is currently not playing basketball, but fans are still concerned. Why? She can't sit down. Clark recently suffered a right groin injury, and after being evaluated by medical staff, she'll remain in recovery and rehabilitation with no time timetable for her return. Her long-term health is the priority, and unfortunately, that means no hoops for now. (Clark will be on the bench for the foreseeable future until she gets better.) In all fairness, asking her not to play basketball is a task in itself. She's one of the most competitive players in the WNBA, and not being on the court is probably one of the hardest things for her to do. That said, it hasn't stopped the second-year guard from being animated on the bench and jumping up and down. Yes, Clark has been quite literally jumping while on the sidelines with a groin injury. It's probably fair to say that she likely can't help herself. (People get hyped about watching sports, and Clark is no different.) The Fever star jumping feels somewhat second nature at this point, but her poor fans are going through it while watching her get active on the Fever's bench. Here's what we mean: Sending positive vibes and thoughts to Fever fans everywhere. To Caitlin Clark, you might want to sit down, friend. You're worrying the people.
