PM Discusses Ministry Activities with Minister of Agriculture
Sana'a - (Saba): Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb al-Rahawi met on Wednesday with Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources Dr. Radwan al-Rubai to discuss the progress of the ministry's activities and those of its affiliated units, the challenges they face, and ways to mitigate them. The meeting also addressed the marketing of agricultural products, highlighting the importance of this process in achieving commodity stability in the local market on one hand, and encouraging farmers to enhance and develop their annual production levels of various crops on the other. The Prime Minister affirmed the Government of Change and Development's commitment—based on the strategic importance of the agricultural and fisheries sectors for national food security—to supporting both sectors, which employ a large segment of the Yemeni population, as well as reinforcing the foundations of their stability and development. He also praised the success stories achieved in this field, particularly those related to self-sufficiency in several key crops and the annual increase in grain production, especially wheat, along with ongoing efforts to develop and promote the cultivation of high-quality Yemeni coffee. Dr. al-Rubai reviewed the ministry's key achievements and the main activities it is currently undertaking. He expressed his appreciation for the government's support—represented by the relevant authorities—and its cooperation with the ministry to reduce existing challenges and move forward with the implementation of strategic and vital plans and programs. Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries discusses its plan for Year 1447 AH
Sana'a – SABA: A meeting was held today in Sana'a, chaired by the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, Dr. Radwan Al-Rubaie, to discuss the ministry's plan for the year 1447 AH. The meeting, which was attended by ministry officials and heads of its affiliated bodies and institutions, reviewed the efforts made by these entities during the past period and discussed programs aimed at expanding agricultural and fishery production. Discussions also focused on the role of these bodies in enhancing food security—particularly through the production of staple crops—as well as on groundwater recharge projects, rainwater harvesting, and the major challenges facing the implementation of development plans. Attendees explored ways to turn these challenges into opportunities through coordinated efforts and role integration among various stakeholders. Minister Al-Rubaie stressed the vital role of the agricultural and fishery sectors in reducing import costs. He emphasized the importance of aligning with the directives of the Leader of the Revolution, the President of the Supreme Political Council, and the Change and Development Government Program as key foundations for preparing and implementing agricultural and development plans—especially through the value chain methodology. He described contract farming as a promising opportunity to achieve self-sufficiency in various crops, promote exports, and substitute imported goods with locally produced ones. Agriculture ministry launches national program for poultry disease prevention
Sana'a - Saba: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, represented by the General Directorate of Animal Health and Veterinary Quarantine and the General Directorate for Livestock Development, on Monday launched the National Awareness and Guidance Program to protect poultry farms and hatcheries from diseases and epidemics. The program targets both small and large broiler producers, hatchery owners, and parent farms. It focuses on three main pillars: enhancing biosecurity, veterinary vaccinations and healthcare; addressing nutritional aspects, feed and water quality; and improving hatchery management to boost overall quality and ensure biosecurity. During the launch, Dr. Radwan al-Rubaie, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, explained that this initiative aims to strengthen the capabilities of breeders and producers. The program seeks to reduce losses and mitigate disease risks threatening this vital sector, thereby contributing to enhanced food security and a gradual move towards self-sufficiency in poultry products. The Minister affirmed the Ministry's commitment to developing the animal production system and improving performance across all stages, including health, nutritional, and technical oversight, to ensure safe, high-quality products that contribute to national food security. For their part, Dr. Ahmed al-Qaddari, Director of Animal Health and Veterinary Quarantine, and Dr. Abdulaziz al-Junaid, Director of Livestock Development, emphasized the importance of breeders adhering to health standards and practices. Hodeida launches major Sidr tree planting project in al-Munirah
Hodeida – Saba: Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources Dr. Radwan al-Rubai and Hodeida Governor Abdullah Atifi on Tuesday inaugurated a project to sow and plant 250,000 Sidr tree seedlings at al-Munirah district nursery. The project, a partnership with local beekeepers and agricultural cooperative societies, aims to expand afforestation and increase agricultural land. Al-Rubai and Atifi were briefed on the nursery's operations, seedling production, and distribution plans, noting its role in supporting community afforestation and improving rural family incomes. Minister al-Rubai highlighted the project's importance for plant production, beekeeping, and self-sufficiency in fruit and environmental trees, emphasizing Sidr's nutritional, medicinal, and cultural value. He stated the ministry prioritizes establishing community nurseries to boost farmer incomes, create jobs, and foster community agricultural partnerships, envisioning al-Munirah as a model for other regions. Governor Atifi hailed the nursery as a developmental gain for al-Munirah, reflecting the state's commitment to agricultural transformation in rural areas. South Batinah records over 17t of wheat production
Muscat – South Batinah governorate has produced more than 17 tonnes of wheat this year, with over 80 feddans of land cultivated across its wilayats, according to the Ministry of Agricultural, Fisheries, and Water Resources. The initiative is part of the government's ongoing efforts to enhance food security in the sultanate, with wheat identified as a strategic crop. Eng Abdullah bin Saif al Saidi, Director of the Agricultural Development Department in South Batinah, said the ministry has implemented several programmes to support wheat cultivation. 'These include research to develop wheat varieties suitable for Oman's climate, as well as providing farmers with seeds and post-planting technical supervision,' he said. More than 2.5 tonnes of wheat seeds were distributed to over 60 farmers across the governorate. Saidi added that the 'Wheat Harvest' programme remains one of the ministry's most important services, offered free of charge. It provides harvesting equipment and specialised staff to assist farmers during the harvest season. Eng Sawsan bint Talib al Khanbashiya, head of the Date Palm and Plant Production Section, said the wheat seed project plays a key role in advancing food security efforts in the region. 'Our team continues to follow up with farmers through field visits and technical guidance throughout the planting season until harvest,' she said. The ministry's support for wheat cultivation reflects a wider national strategy to promote sustainable agriculture and ensure long-term food resilience.
