‘The Holiday' limited series adaptation reportedly in development at Apple TV+
As with the Nancy Meyers-directed film, the upcoming series will follow two women — one American and one British — who swap homes over the Christmas season and unexpectedly find love. Unlike the movie, however, the series will not follow the original characters portrayed by Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Jack Black.
Krissie Ducker (Killing Eve, Sweetpea) is attached to write and executive produce the show, with Rob Delaney (Catastrophe) also contributing as a writer. The series is being produced by Left Bank Pictures. Notably, Nancy Meyers, who wrote, directed, and produced the 2006 hit, is not involved in the TV adaptation.
Casting is currently underway. Should the team secure the right talent, the show is expected to receive an official greenlight from the streamer.
The original film was a box office success, grossing over $200 million globally. Over time, The Holiday has gained cult status, often cited as a go-to comfort film during the holiday season. The movie featured Winslet as Iris, a London-based journalist, and Diaz as Amanda, a Los Angeles businesswoman. Their decision to swap homes during the holidays led them to cross paths with Graham (Law) and Miles (Black), forming the film's central romantic arcs.
Ducker is represented by Independent Talent Group and Black Bear. She began her career as a writer's assistant on Catastrophe, which Delaney co-created and starred in alongside Sharon Horgan.

Ice Cube's War of the Worlds scores 0 percent on Rotten Tomatoes
Ice Cube's latest film War of the Worlds, a modern reimagining of H.G. Wells' 1898 sci-fi classic, has been widely panned by critics and audiences alike. Released on Amazon Prime Video on July 30, the Rich Lee-directed feature holds a rare 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 3.2/10 score on IMDb from over 8,000 users. The film attempts to modernize Wells' alien invasion tale by incorporating themes of digital surveillance, online communication, and privacy. However, critics argue that the execution has fallen flat. One outlet labeled it 'a disaster,' calling the film 'a feature-length commercial for all things Amazon.' Another review described it as a 'screenlife' thriller told entirely through digital screens, concluding that it 'fails not only as entertainment but even as a coherent film.' The inclusion of excessive product placement — such as an Amazon product page for a flash drive — has only intensified backlash. On social media, viewers echoed critics' sentiments, calling the film 'unwatchable' and 'possibly the worst film in years.' Some mocked the tagline, 'It's worse than you think,' saying it accurately summarizes the experience. One IMDb reviewer wrote: 'This movie is a complete waste of cinematic resources,' while another commented: 'Some of the worst acting across the board. The best actors in the film were the aliens.' Compared to previous War of the Worlds adaptations — including the 1953 version (89% RT) and Steven Spielberg's 2005 film (76% RT) — the 2025 installment has fallen drastically short. Ice Cube stars as Will Radford alongside Eva Longoria, Iman Benson, and Clark Gregg. The screenplay is by Kenneth A. Golde and Marc Hyman.

Lady Gaga to release new song for Netflix's 'Wednesday' Season 2 alongside appearance on the show
Lady Gaga is confirmed to release a new track titled Dead Dance for the second season of the Tim Burton-directed Netflix series Wednesday. Two sources close to the production revealed the news to Variety, confirming fan theories that had circulated in recent months. The song and its accompanying video are scheduled for release next month, timed with Gaga's on-screen appearance as Rosaline Rotwood who is described as a 'legendary Nevermore teacher who crosses paths with Wednesday.' Reps for the singer declined to comment, but industry insiders have linked the song's production to Andrew Watt and Cirkut, who also worked on Gaga's Mayhem album. Although she was absent from the recent Wednesday Season 2 premiere in London due to her ongoing Mayhem Ball tour, Burton praised her creative energy. 'She's such an artist and so for me, working with an artist is inspirational,' he told Variety. The new season also includes Jenna Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Steve Buscemi, and Joanna Lumley. The first four episodes of Wednesday Season 2 will be released on Netflix on August 6, 2025, at 3 am ET / 12 am PT. The final four episodes will follow on September 3, 2025.

EA delays The Sims 5 to protect decade's worth of DLC content from The Sims 4
Electronic Arts (EA) is holding off on releasing The Sims 5, citing concerns over the massive amount of downloadable content (DLC) players have invested in The Sims 4 since its 2014 launch. In a recent interview with Variety, EA president Laura Miele revealed that the company doesn't want fans to lose the progress and content they've accumulated over the past decade. 'What I wouldn't want to have happen is you to have to start from day zero… and give up all of the content you've purchased,' Miele explained. Since its release, The Sims 4 has introduced over 85 expansion packs, game packs, and kits — many sold as premium DLC. EA acknowledges that asking players to abandon these purchases isn't 'player friendly.' Miele also emphasized that The Sims 4 is now 'technologically strong' enough to continue evolving without needing a sequel. Instead of a clean-slate Sims 5, EA is shifting focus to spin-offs like Project Rene, a multiplayer project in development, and cross-media ventures such as The Sims movie, being produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Margot Robbie's LuckyChap. The film presents new opportunities to merge linear storytelling and interactive gameplay, potentially introducing its characters and themes into The Sims 4 through future DLC. With the franchise celebrating its 25th anniversary, EA is opting for innovation through expansion rather than replacement — signaling a new era of transmedia storytelling for The Sims and other top EA titles.
