Hajiji hints at final sitting before elections
Published on: Tuesday, July 08, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jul 08, 2025 By: Nora Ahmad Text Size: Hajiji meets reporters after the Tuesday session. - Nora Ahmad/Daily Express KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor has indicated that the recent two-day State Assembly sitting may be the last before the next state election, though he declined to reveal the date for the dissolution of the assembly, which is due to expire automatically on November 11. 'It's likely the last sitting, but I can't announce the date yet. Be patient. Not long now,' he told reporters on Tuesday after the session. Hajiji confirmed that discussions with political partners on seat allocations are ongoing and will be finalised before the assembly is dissolved. He emphasised that the current government is based on a GRS-Pakatan Harapan alliance. Reflecting on his administration's term, Hajiji said his government had done its best over the past five years, implementing reforms in welfare, education, infrastructure, and legacy issues like water supply. 'Much has been done, but challenges remain, such as water issues we inherited. However, upgrades are underway. Other initiatives include road improvements, student support, housing aid, and broader welfare programmes,' he said, urging voters to give GRS another mandate. He described the just-concluded assembly sitting as a key platform to showcase the government's achievements, highlighting the passage of bills related to carbon governance, forestry, land, and additional budget allocations for state management and development. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Assistant Works Minister Datuk Limus Jury said JANS is focusing on delivering safe, treated water through high-impact projects in rural and urban areas, while also preparing for the 13MP by proposing masterplans for all districts and a state-wide Water Grid strategy. JANS has also submitted priority proposals to the federal government, including replacing old pipes in Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, and Sandakan, and implementing a Non-Revenue Water (NRW) programme in Keningau and Beaufort. Limus added that JANS plans to build 22 pre-sedimentation tanks under the 13MP and supports alternative supply initiatives like rainwater harvesting, though its role is limited to treated water distribution. Separately, Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said 1,200km of aging asbestos cement pipes across Sabah will be replaced in phases due to high costs, with active repair and upgrade works ongoing in Sandakan, Keningau, and Kota Kinabalu to tackle frequent leaks and disruptions. * Read full report in tomorrow's print paper or log in or sign up for e-paper and premium online news access. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. Published on: Tuesday, July 08, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jul 08, 2025 By: Abbey Junior Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: Sabah did not participate in bidding for the Mutiara Cluster oil block as its state-owned firms, SMJ Energy and Sabah International Petroleum (SIP), lack the capital and expertise for large-scale exploration, said Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun. He told the State Assembly that the Mutiara PSC, recently awarded to Dialog Group Berhad, was part of an international bid and still in the exploration stage. Masidi assured that Sabah's interests remain protected under the Commercial Collaboration Agreement with Petronas, and hinted at future involvement by SMJ. In response to opposition leader Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal's criticism over Sabah's exclusion, Masidi said the government prefers 'quiet but consistent' efforts over rhetoric. The Mutiara Cluster, off Sabah's east coast, comprises five marginal fields, with first gas expected before Q1 2029. * Read full report in tomorrow's print paper or log in or sign up for e-paper and premium online news access. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss.
