Steelers HC Mike Tomlin shares his feelings on Minkah Fitzpatrick trade at training camp
Part of a blockbuster trade that saw the Steelers acquire All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey and Pro Bowl TE Jonnu Smith from the Dolphins, Fitzpatrick's absence in Latrobe was deafening — and HC Mike Tomlin wasted little time addressing the elephant in the room.
When speaking with reporters at Wednesday's press conference, Tomlin was asked how difficult it was to trade a player who meant so much to the Steelers' defense — and this was his response:
"Very difficult," Tomlin said. "His experience here and the production that he gave us speaks for itself. But you've got to make tough choices, and obviously I've been talking glowingly about two top-notch players we acquired in that [trade]. But I don't lessen the impact of a player like Minkah."
It's safe to say Tomlin, while disappointed in losing a player he was very close to, is eager to see Smith and Ramsey in action after the blockbuster deal.
One has to wonder if there's any resentment from Fitzpatrick — as he seemed ready for a bounce-back year with Pittsburgh, based on his comments at minicamp. If there are even slightly any hard feelings, we'll find out for certain when Miami heads to Pittsburgh in Week 15 for Monday Night Football — an action-packed matchup with potential playoff implications late in the season.

Shane Steichen provides injury update on Colts' LB Zaire Franklin
After Monday's practice, Shane Steichen provided an injury update on Colts' LB Zaire Franklin. After undergoing offseason ankle surgery, Indianapolis Colts' linebacker Zaire Franklin hasn't practiced during training camp yet. But Shane Steichen believes he is close to returning. "Really close," Steichen said of Franklin's return on Monday. "Hopefully we can get him at some point this week out there. That's the hope. But he's progressing well. Obviously, he's running and doing stuff. Hopefully, we get him back out there this week, is the hope." Along with missing the start of training camp, Franklin also missed OTA and minicamp practices due to the offseason surgery as well. With the Colts not placing Franklin on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list at the start of training camp, that was a sign that they didn't expect him to be out long. With Franklin sidelined, Cameron McGrone has been seeing his share of starting reps alongside of Jaylon Carlies. Franklin is coming off a career year, which included leading the NFL in tackles, along with setting career-highs in interceptions, sacks, and quarterback pressures. As a result, Franklin would make his first Pro Bowl and was named a second-team All-Pro. Playing next to Carlies, who brings a coverage presence to the position as a former college safety, along with operating within Lou Anarumo's defensive scheme, where there will be a greater reliance on defensive backs in coverage situations, Franklin could see more opportunities this season to play closer to the line of scrimmage, which is where he is at his best.

Colts agree to terms on a four-year extension with OT Bernhard Raimann
The Colts have agreed to terms with left tackle Bernhard Raimann on a four-year, $100 million extension, Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports. Raimann will receive $60 million guaranteed. Last week, Raimann went on 107.5 The Fan and said the sides 'aren't on the same page about things.' It didn't take long to close the gap. Raimann, a third-round pick in 2022, was headed into the final year of his rookie deal, scheduled to make a base salary of $3.656 million. He has never made the Pro Bowl or All-Pro, but he has solidified the position after a long search to find Anthony Castonzo's replacement. Castonzo retired after the 2020 season. Raimann, a native of Vienna, Austria, has started 40 games since the Colts drafted him out of Central Michigan.

Rodgers First Throw Does Not Fare Well
Rodgers First Throw Does Not Fare Well originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The excitement is back. NFL training camps are underway across the country for all 32 teams. Crowds are filing in, and players are getting their bodies back in shape for the grind of the 2025 season. At St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, fans are buzzing as the Aaron Rodgers era begins. Mike Tomlin and the Steelers front office brought in the 41-year-old quarterback to jump-start the offense. Thursday was the first day of team drills, and Rodgers' first pass didn't go well. Brooke Pryor, who covers the Steelers for ESPN, reported live from camp and noted the miscue. 'Aaron Rodgers' first team-period pass is intercepted by Patrick Queen. Looked like Rodgers just didn't see him. Big Ooooos from the crowd at Latrobe.' Rodgers finished the session completing 1 of 3 passes with the interception. He also forced an offside penalty while under center. Mason Rudolph came in with the second unit and went a perfect 4-for-4. The clip of Rodgers' interception quickly made the rounds on social media: After being taken in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft, Rodgers played 18 seasons in Green Bay before joining the New York Jets in 2023. However, a torn Achilles on his first drive ended his season before it really began. Last year, he threw for 28 touchdowns against 11 interceptions, but the Jets sputtered to a 5-12 record. Now in Pittsburgh, Rodgers is taking another shot at success in the AFC. He enters 2025 with 503 career touchdown passes, 116 interceptions and four MVP awards, most recently in 2021. He was also named MVP of Super Bowl XLV, when the Packers beat the Steelers 31-25 to cap the 2010 season. Rodgers sits atop the quarterback depth chart in Pittsburgh. Behind him are Rudolph, Will Howard and Skylar Thompson. The Steelers have added firepower on offense with wide receivers DK Metcalf and veteran Robert Woods joining the roster. Pittsburgh opens the 2025 season on Sept. 7 on the road against the Jets. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jul 24, 2025, where it first appeared.
