July 10 South Africa (Kenilworth/Turffontein) form guide
(8) ROCKANROLLIN was green but made a pleasing debut up the straight at Kenilworth on May 21. Watch for sharp improvement, he can certainly win a race like this.
(11) BLACK EAGLE made massive improvement from his first run into his second run. He is clearly getting better and better with racing.
(12) DAY IN DAY OUT ran a much better race behind Spirit on June 12. Step-up in trip to 1,200m suits.
(3) MARCUS AURELIUS was unfancied on debut, but ran a terrific race. He should make the necessary improvement.
Race 2 (1,200m)
(3) JAPANESE GARDEN has been costly to follow but is worth another chance over this shorter distance.
Watch the betting on well-bred debutant (5) KENSAL GREEN.
(1) DONDOYAKI caught the eye when staying on for second at long odds over 1,000m. She would have come on since and should have more to offer over this extended trip.
(9) TAKEMETOTHEMOON and South American import (7) SARAGOSSA CAT have claims on debut.
Race 3 (1,200m)
(4) WISH LIST ran third behind Paralegal on June 12. If she has improved back at home, she will be very difficult to beat.
(1) PRECOCIOUS was beaten just over three lengths by Take It As Red at her first start over 1,400m. Much better than that run. Drop in trip suits.
(10) QUEEN REGENT ran a much better race at Kenilworth on June 12, when third to Clair De Lune. If she can build on that run, she will have a good winning chance.
(7) PLAYFUL JOULES has been rested for 65 days. On her best form, she could steal a place again with jockey Muzi Yeni up.
Race 4 (1,200m)
(6) UMZINGELI WENYATHI has placed in both starts over 1,000m. Will relish extra 200m.
Among the newcomers, watch the betting on the well-bred (5) ROMILLY.
(8) BLUSHING BLOOM could play a role if confirming that progress.
Recently gelded (2) CAPTAIN FRANK had excuses on debut. Can give a better account.
Race 5 (1,100m)
(4) MEU CAPITANO has been rested for 114 days. His form of late over ground has been very good. The 1,100m trip is absolutely no concern at all.
(5) KAIBOY ran second to Arctic Wizard at Kenilworth on June 12. He will certainly be right there at the finish on his best form.
(2) GEM KING can mix it up with some of the best sprinters in the land on his day. Watch him closely at a decent price, he will run a cracker.
(1) DEAN STREET won really well at a big price on June 21. Life will be tougher with a six-point penalty, but his chances must be respected.
Race 6 (1,000m)
Consistent (1) EMPRESS WU deserves a reward for her efforts and would not be winning out of turn after three consecutive seconds. Improving youngsters (5) MIDNIGHT MIRACLE and (8) WINTER BELLE have scope for further progress, and they will likely challenge for top honours.
(6) RED HOT KISSES appeals most of the remainder.
Race 7 (1,700m)
(5) RED STATE has run some fair races of late in competitive open maidens. She should love the step-up in trip. Include her in all bets.
(8) RARE EARTH ran a much better race behind Ocotillo on June 12. She now steps up in trip to 1,700m, watch for further improvement.
(6) LUCKY THIRTEEN has been well tried in the maiden ranks. This is not the strongest race on paper.
(7) NOT WANTED has taken a bit of time to mature. He is still learning to race but can be right there in the money.
Race 8 (1,000m)
(1) BUMPS LAST GRIND was runner-up in three of his four starts. Need not improve much to open his account.
(2) INSPECTOR JAMES, (3) JET QUERARI and (4) RINGHO all have the form and experience to trouble the selection.
Race 9 (1,400m)
(9) FOLLOW YOUR HEART won well on May 21. He will love the step-up in trip. If he can beat the draw, he will be hard to beat.
(7) FIRINGONALLENGINES won a gutsy race up the straight over 1,200m on June 12. He will keep fighting all the way to the line.
(10) IN A TIMELY MANNER quickened up to win his debut like a very smart horse. He will love the step-up in trip to 1,400m.
(11) MELA STRENGTH unfortunately draws poorly again, but on his best form and with some luck in running, he will be doing some good work late.
Race 10 (1,600m)
(8) SINGLETON SAM did not go unnoticed on debut against winners. He will have more to offer.
(1) GREENLIGHT RACER ran third recently over slightly shorter distances. Will be competitive over this extended trip.
(5) NKWENKWEZI is the only filly in the race but she would not be winning out of turn after consecutive close-up seconds.
(2) PARABELLUM ran third last start over shorter. He will love the longer trip.
Race 11 (1,400m)
(1) GOLDEN ANGEL ran a fair race behind Strawberry Thief on May 21. She has dropped in the ratings, and in trip, and gets a good draw.
(11) LA DIVINA won a super race on May 13. If she can beat the draw without doing work early, she will have a good winning chance again.
(9) SUPREME FATE finished like a train behind Swiatek last time. She is still improving with racing and will be right there in the finish.
(10) ONI SAN has run some decent races of late, especially her last run behind Swiatek on June 1. Can finish in the money.
Race 12 (1,600m)
(14) WITCHING HOUR ran fourth to an unbeaten filly aimed at a Grade 1 later this month. Her experience over this distance will stand her in good stead.
(13) STAMPEDE AHEAD ran third on debut over 1,400m. Will relish the extra 200m.
Debutant (12) SPECIAL STAR is attractively bred and any market support must be respected.
Youngster (9) MERRYWEATHER is likely to improve for the step-up to this distance.
Race 13 (1,100m)
(4) LOVERS LANE ran a cracker behind Firingonallengines last time. This seems to be a nice race for him, if he can bring that last run to the track again.
(10) GRAVITY has run two great races in succession, despite being slow into stride early. Good each-way chance in this race.
(7) CHAMPAGNE MAC finished five lengths behind his stable companion on May 21. He tries hard at this level.
(5) TAMBOURINE MAN has been rested for 83 days. If he does not need the run badly, he could easily win a race like this.
Race 14 (1,200m)
(4) NIGHT BOMBER is versatile and likely to acquit himself competitively once more.
(5) PASSAGE OF POWER had legitimate excuses for disappointing recent performances. Can atone.
(3) LEAD THE CHARGE is consistent and warrants respect.
(2) YAMADORI is more than capable of bouncing back.
Race 15 (1,000m)
(6) PEACE OF MIND went down narrowly behind Pink Pigeon last time. She is very fast and really enjoys the 1,000m trip. Hard to beat.
(3) THE CHARLESTON ran third in the same race won by Pink Pigeon on June 12. With the claim of 1.5kg, she must have a good winning chance.
(7) INSIDE VOICE won her maiden well on May 25. She will still need to improve further to win again. She must be respected.
(9) LHASA ran a lovely second behind Champagne Kisses last time. If she can reproduce that run, she can finish in the money.

Different horsepower for Horner as Red Bull enter new era
SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS, Belgium - Former Red Bull team boss Christian Horner posted a video on social media of himself riding on horseback in the English countryside on the day of the Belgian Grand Prix. "Different horse power this Sunday," read the simple caption. Spa-Francorchamps marked the start of a new era for the former Formula One champions, the first race without Horner -- dismissed two weeks ago -- at the helm since Red Bull entered the sport in 2005. New boss Laurent Mekies started with a win, with Max Verstappen taking the Saturday sprint, and then a frustrating fourth place for the Dutch four-times world champion in the main Sunday grand prix. Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda failed to score for the sixth race in a row. Apart from expressing surprise at the long delay in getting the race started, due to heavy rain, Mekies avoided any polemic. He blamed the team for Tsunoda's blank, saying the Japanese had done a great job in qualifying but was called in too late for his pitstop in a mistake that cost him three or four positions. "To also enter into the race dynamics and see how the flows and the processes and preparation are. That was super-good in terms of getting to know the team. As you would imagine, it's a team where everything is done at the mega level." Horner's absence was the talk of the paddock but by the time the circus regroups in Budapest next week, the conversation is likely to have moved on. "I think Laurent is very good. The sport moves on quickly, so it probably won't be something that we're talking about come Monday," McLaren boss Zak Brown told Sky Sports television. "He (Horner) had fantastic results. It's a shame to kind of go out the way he did." "I don't think he's gone forever. I think he's going to pop up in some kind of other function," said the Austrian. REUTERS

Baseball-Ohtani aims to break Dodgers' consecutive HR record as team hits the road
LOS ANGELES :Shohei Ohtani hit his fifth home run in as many games to help the Los Angeles Dodgers secure a 4-3 walkoff victory over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday, tying a franchise record and moving closer to setting a new mark when the team opens a nine-game road trip Friday in Boston. Ohtani gave the Dodgers an early advantage with a solo shot to left-center field in the first inning on a sun-soaked day at Dodger Stadium for his National League-leading 37th homer of the season. The Japanese slugger became the first MLB player to hit home runs in five consecutive games since Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees achieved the feat last season. He also matched the Dodgers' franchise record for consecutive games with a home run, a milestone reached five times previously, most recently by Max Muncy in 2019. The fear Ohtani puts in the hearts of opposing teams was laid bare when the Twins intentionally walked him with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, moving Mookie Betts into scoring position and Ohtani to first, where he represented the game-winning run. Esteury Ruiz followed with a walk to load the bases, and Freddie Freeman lined a single to left field that got under the glove of the diving Harrison Bader, sealing the win and snapping the Dodgers' recent slump. "How we got here today, showing the fight and willing ourselves to get Freddie an at-bat to win a game like that, I'd like to think that is momentum building," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters. Ohtani, who signed a 10-year, $700 million deal with Los Angeles prior to last season, is the frontrunner for a second consecutive NL MVP award and fourth overall. After becoming the first player in MLB history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single season last year, Ohtani continues to produce at the plate, leading the NL in runs scored, slugging percentage and OPS. He returned to the mound last month for the first time since August 2023 following a second surgery on his right elbow. Roberts has limited Ohtani's workload, with the two-way star pitching six times for a total of 12 innings this season as the NL West-leading Dodgers pursue a second consecutive World Series title.
