Teen struck and killed by small plane that crashed into boat dock in Lake Scugog
A teenager is dead after being struck by a plane that crashed into a boat dock in Lake Scugog Friday afternoon.
Police said a small plane crashed near the community of Caesarea at around 12:25 p.m.
Images from the scene show the aftermath of the crash, with the plane upside down resting on top of a pontoon boat.

Durham police said the pilot and the passenger of the plane were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The cause of the crash is unknown.
Police said the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has been notified and will take over the investigation.
In a deployment notice, the TSB confirmed that it was sending a team of investigators to the scene to 'gather information and assess the occurrence.'

Three charged after striking RCMP vehicles in Prince Albert
Two women and a man are facing multiple charges after two RCMP vehicles were struck in Prince Albert RCMP Thursday. Around 9 a.m., officers responded to a report of a wanted man driving an SUV on Highway 2 near Diefenbaker Bridge. When officers located the vehicle, the suspect drove recklessly, striking two police vehicles before becoming immobilized in a nearby ditch, the Saskatchewan RCMP said in a news release. Two women and a man were arrested at the scene and a loaded rifle was seized from the vehicle. Police say no officers were physically injured, but the police vehicles sustained extensive damage. As a result, a 33-year-old man from Southend faces multiple charges, including flight from a peace officer, mischief, and assault on a police officer with a weapon. A 25-year-old woman, also from Southend, faces six charges, including possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle and failure to comply with a release order. A 31-year-old woman from Prince Albert faces six charges, including possession of a firearm without authorization and failure to comply with a release order. The man appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Thursday, and the two women made their court appearances on Friday.

Ontario man worries his property has become rental scam bait

(Jeff Pickel/CTV News) A homeowner in Cambridge, Ont. is concerned his property is being used in a rental scam. Brett Brohman bought a home in the Soper Park neighbourhood on July 8. He noticed, soon after, strangers kept showing up at his property. 'I saw on my camera there's people walking around my yard,' Brohman explained. 'I thought it was odd, I thought it was just a utility person.' Then, last Sunday, he spotted three men standing in his backyard and looking around. 'They're asking if I was Emmanuel and told me that some guy, Emmanuel, told them to come [to] check out the house,' Brohman recalled. Eventually, the visitors explained they saw an ad on Facebook Marketplace. The person who made the post called themselves Emmanuel and told the would-be renters he was out of the country, so they could go look at the exterior of the home without him. 'It's very nerve-racking knowing there's an ad for your house and people could, at any time, just be trespassing on your yard,' Brohman said. He reported the issue to police but was told that since no crime had been committed there was little they could do. Brohman said he notified Facebook about the issue but, as of July 25, the ad has not been taken down. While the uninvited guests are a nuisance, Brohman is more concerned about potential victims. 'I don't know if anyone's going to fall for the scam and pay them [the] first and last month's rent,' he said. Brohman also worried they would blame and come after him. He understands, however, why the post generated so much interest. It set the rent at $1,500 per month for the three-bedroom house. 'People are probably going to be thinking like, 'This is such a good deal, we don't want to wait.'' Brohman hopes people use common sense when looking for a rental and advises renters not to tour a property without someone on site. 'Make sure that you actually see the inside of the house, and whoever you're talking to has a key and can go inside and can show you around, not just tell you to walk around outside.' CTV News also reached out to Facebook's parent company Meta but have not received a response.

Police recapture convicted murderer who escaped prison north of Montreal
Correctional Service Canada says a convicted murderer who escaped from a Quebec prison nearly three weeks ago has been recaptured. They say Lori Bill Germa was apprehended by Montreal police at around 7:45 a.m. Friday. Montreal police said in a news release that he robbed a financial institution on Guy Street on July 19 and again on July 22. An employee gave him $400 the first time and $500 the second, both in bundles containing marked bills. He faces robbery charges. The 69-year-old escaped from the Archambault Institution north of Montreal on July 5. Staff at the prison's minimum-security unit reported him missing after noticing he was absent during an inmate count. Germa had been serving a first-degree murder sentence for a crime committed in 1992.
